great food, great service, stunning views. The only problem is the mandatory charge of 2400 yen for the live jazz. Otherwise faultless.

We went to New York Bar twice during our visit to Tokyo since we enjoyed it so much. The first time we went right after sunset (it was winter so the sunset was before they open at 5PM, though you may be able to go before sunset in the summer) and got a window front table. The bar is on... More

We really enjoyed a drink and the view at New York bar at the Park Hyatt hotel. Very luxurious and modern. Really like the vibe.

It's the Park Hyatt. You expect it to be classy and expensive. Not assy and exploitative. Well the view is great. The jazz from the bar around the corner, mellifluous. The menu as advertised and something to look forward to. What you don't expect, having been able only to secure a 9pm reservation, is to have tables being reset for... More

‘Lost in Translation’ is a Sofia Coppola movie starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Bill Murray plays Bob Harris, an American actor having a mid-life crisis, who is in Japan to make a whiskey commercial. Scarlett Johansson plays Charlotte, who is bored while accompanying her husband on a business trip. If you ever stayed alone at a luxury hotel in... More

I really loved this bar. The food, drinks, and ambiance were all top notch, creating just a really enjoyable experience. After a day of touring Shinjuki, we arrived in the late afternoon on a Sunday. The sunset was nice, but once the sun went down and the lights of Tokyo come on, the view is one of a kind -... More

Sitting there of an evening, with Tokyo twinkling away to the horizon 52 storeys below, a jazz quartet doing a fantastic job of 'On Green Dolphin Street, enjoying an aged single malt and a Montecristo No.2, it is impossible not to feel utterly and totally rock and roll. I strongly suggest you try it.

I went here on a whim - it was my last night and, disappointed with my first venue, I suddenly remembered the fabulous looking bar featured in the film, Lost in Translation. After Googling and realising it was only a few stops on the tube, I made my way over there. It's not a straight forward lift ride to the... More

A co-worker took a group of us there to see where the movie 'Lost in translation' was filmed. It was great experience and we took wonderful pictures from up there. Some of us loved the Hamburger but I decided not to go for it ; ) Nice selection of international cocktails!

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
