The atmosphere at Omotesando Ukaitei is very formal in premises right next to the Dior building in the main street of Omotesando. You enter a high-ceilinged space, glass on two sides, with chefs standing, almost at attention, behind a semi-circular gleaming teppanyaki plate. Staff watch like hawks to make sure you are looked after every second, and that nothing displeases... More

We enjoyed a delicious meal with fresh seafood, tasty appetizers and mouthwatering desserts. This is teppanyaki at the highest quality and something reserved for special moments.

Given how English-friendly the website is, we made the reservation ourselves by calling the restaurant. The place is a bit fancier than we imagined, but luckily we didn't dress too casually. There are three dinner set menus to choose from, and we picked the middle one (menus are on the website). A word of clarification: the menu includes a special... More

On our recent trip to Tokyo, we asked our hotel concierge to make a reservation at Ukai-tei Omotesando for lunch. The restaurant is located on the 5th floor of a building in up-market Omotesando and easily accessible by subway. Lunch is definitely cheaper than dinner. You have 4 options to choose from - all are set menus and multi-course. Service... More

This is a great restaurant by any measure. When you dine here, you have a personal chef in front of you. Most everything is cooked in front of you and for you exclusively. They cook a live abalone in front of you, building a cone of salt around it. However, the very pinnacle of dining here is the steak. I... More

This restaurant provides a level of service unparalleled by many. If you have to ask the price, this is not for you. Personalized service by your chef, extremely elegant cooking style and technique, while feeling uninterrupted by the presence of others around the grill. Wine selections are excellent and strongly suggest you go for the top set menu option which... More

Probably the best restuarant we have visited in Tokyo, and we try to visit every trip. You can call the resturant to make a reservation in advance or get your hotel to do the booking. It is all in sets and lunch is much cheaper than dinner (if on a budget). The meal includes several courses at the Teppenyaki table... More

Probably the only 3 starred teppanyaki restaurant in the world. Teppanyaki restaurants are a dime a plenty everywhere. What makes a 3 star teppanyaki place. 1) No circus acts. No banging of utensils, no singing no funny clownish acts. Just a classy act. 2) Ambience. Ukai tei is in the super high end Omotessandro area and they take up an... More

This is a very high-end restaurant with a decent interior, pleasant atmosphere and extortionate prices.. You can choose between 3 set menus, which are approx. 15k Yen, 20k Yen & 25k Yen and that's without the 9k Yen supplement for Kobe beef! We went for the middle menu to be reasonable and it was a real disappointment. The food wasn't... More

Elegant restaurant. Excellent quality food & service. Although it's expensive, it's value-for-money considering the kind of food & service they delivered. Dessert is served in another part of the restaurant. Simply heavenly!

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighbourhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
