The Malterie is a nice cozy and welcoming restaurant, the welcome is warm and the cuisine comforting. The chef has nothing to envy the best cooks whose tables we have already attended. Bravo, this will definitely be our reference address in Chimay.

What a pleasure to have such a beautiful in our countryside. Endorsement service by lady and shop of quality products at the entrance. And tel to book, because even during the week it can be sold out, which was the case for us, and good, proof of the quality of the establishment. Here no pizzas or couscous, but seasonal dishes.

Good classic cuisine and a nice wine list.
Friendly welcome and fast service.
The “old industrial” setting is pleasant and well lit. We like the choice of paints (clowns) a little less - a matter of taste

A village bistro that aims to be a gourmet restaurant!
Specialty escaveche...you have to love it. Sweetbreads correct but too creamy. Uncooked fries, tasteless stewed vegetables with the exception of a delicious cooked pear. Disappointing Sabaillon. Fast and friendly service. Nice wine list. A little expensive.

When I arrived at La Malterie, it was fully booked... I really wanted to enjoy a nice lunch and it was one of the only restaurant open in the area... They made a plan... The lady set a table for me and they served me the most delicious food... fish, asparagus risotto, chardonnay sauce...
A good address to go in Chimay... But book beforehand to make sure...

Our special friends took us to this restaurant on the occasion of our annual reunion.
The restaurant is very stylish, chic, very clean and fresh.
The food is traditional Belgian. The lady who served us was kind, helpful and charismatic, smiling and friendly.
The hors d'oeuvre were the best I have ever had, thanks you.
Our main course was canard with cherries. The food is perfection and served with care.
We shared a desert of seasonal fruits, highly recommended.
A special experience for us, we hope to return.

Just came back from Chimay and ate at this restaurant twice, it's not the only restaurant in town but the one that i thought had a decent quality food menu. The place it appears rustic like being an old factory or warehouse in old days but this adds charm, the woman who served us never spoke English but between us both with a bit of perseverance got the order sorted (I was in their country so I should learn the language). The food was good and hospitality friendly, some may moan about the prices but I found was ok, if you want cheap then look else where.

La Malterie offers good food with fresh ingredients.
Prices are not budget at all. A bit over the top. All supplements (like bread, ketchup, mayonnaise) are charged as extra.
Service was friendly but it takes a while until you get your food (they warn you about it, so, no surprises about this).
I enjoyed the experience but I was not so impressed by it. I have no experience to compare it with other places around the region, so, it will be difficult to judge.

In fact, part of an old brewery. In "those days" any Belgian village had at least two breweries. But you want to know about the restaurant? Traditional, very good cook, nice local products. "Cuisine au beurre" , part of a real family tradition. The owners wife, Angelique, (truly) will help you choose the best wine. Oysters are good, lobster of course. In shooting season you can have pheasant "a la brabançonne" i.e with Belgian endives. Discover escaveche, brought to us by the Spanish armies centuries ago. Local small snails, yes try it! Prepared in (also close to) local Maroille cheese. You will see locals enjoying their meal with a ..local beer, Chimay Trappist. A restaurant patroned by locals must be good. But then, I have to admit, Chimay is so much off-road, that we do not see many tourist. So, please do not tell anybody but your really good friends about all this!

Chimay is a very nice little town in Belgium, where one of the counntry's most famous beers is brewed. It also has a few nice restaurants catering for local specialties as well as game in season. La Malterie was recommended to us by the owner of the guesthouse we stayed in. It's 5 minutes walking distance from the main square and the church.
I order one of the region's specialties as a starter, consisting of "Escaveche". It's usually either trout or pike (I chose the latter) served cold in some kind of a cream/vinegar sauce and onions. It comes from a spanish recipe, and has been used over the centuries because it allows preservation of the food. Mine was quite nice, a bit too much vinegar to my taste. then we had deer for 2 as a main course. It was very tasty, and well presented. The staff is friendly and the place looks charming. We chose an affordable wiine, which turned out to be very good and matching the meal. Pricewise, I found it a bit overrated, expect 60-70€ per person without dessert. It's not the discovery of the year, but it's pretty decent if you're around.

The place is beautiful, the room is not crowded with tables, the waitresses are (very) welcoming and always ready to help, and of course the food is to die for! Go there with your eyes closed.
