Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.

"Good looking statue on the promenade at Arpoador Beach of the man who composed the immortal “Girl from Ipanema”."

This statue was erected in 2014 on the 20th anniversary of Tom Jobim’s death at the age of 67 in New York. We encountered it on a walk along Ipanema Beach.
It is just a statue. Not worth going out of your way to see.
Strolling along Ipanema's affluent "Avenida Vieira Souto", a small house among all those buildings will catch immediately your attention. This house - one of the few remaining houses on Ipanema Beach - belonged to Ms. Laura Alvim, who fought, all her life, to transform it into a cultural center. She died in 1984 after officially donating the house to the...
We have visited this museum twice (on both our trips to Rio) and we highly recommend it to people who are interested in fine jewelry and gemstones. The actual mining displays are very interesting, but the gems steal the show! The colors and size of the stones displayed are amazing and they are all beautiful. Once you have toured the...
I´ve been many times to this place and it always the same standard, good food as the french know how to do. Good meat. The chef is very nice, always there and usualy comes in every table to ask if all are satisfy. The place is also nice with an intimist atmosphere. Honest prices.
Cosy and elegant place located in the smooth and safe zone of Ipanema.
Service is professional and kind, bit a bit slow.
The menu is various, I tried palmito as starter then red fish with coconut rice. Delicious!
The IPA beer is very good as well.
Price is reasonable maybe just a bit more of the average.

"Excellent food + excellent service = must go"

When in Rio I recommend a night at Zaza. We had a fantastic evening - nice wine, beer, great food (their slow roasted lamb was delicious, the chicken curry was delightful and the banana brûlée was scrumptious). All of this in a very peaceful setting with a helpful and smiling waitress.
Found this place by chance and I'm very glad we did, great vegan meal and cocktails, cosy place with a nice atmosphere. We shared the momos to start and followed them by sharing the squash curry and kimchi rice, all the dishes were fabulous and a generous size. Strongly recommend this place, even for carnivores like me!
Rancho Português is lovely place to have lunch in Ipanema. The food and service are exquisite, and they have an extensive wine list. I chose a jamon iberico appetizer followed by an octopus risotto. This was accompanied by a flavorful bottle of Douro from Portugal. Very filling, and thus completed with a nice Strega digestif.
Happy to write this review after getting back home from marvelous five day stay at Fasano in Rio. The staff of this hotel is superb. Concierge service is great.
Pool service is incredible. Breakfast buffet is also outstanding. Dining at the restaurant is a great experience. Location is te best in Rio. The rooftop views are unparalleled.
Two only things...
My first trip to Rio started off with a great stay at Ipanema Inn. I arrived early and Joao shared what time my room would be available and offered restaurant suggestions and place to change for the beach. I came back and the appointed time and the room was ready.
I had a large room on the 9th floor with...
You know how you find one of those hotels where everything is just soooo good that you dont want to tell anybody just in case it gets too popular? Well, this is that place! I cant even fault anything but the butter being too hard at breakfast (and thats pretty normal for brazil anyway). Speaking of breakfast, special mention goes...

Couldn't get a better location for enjoying Ipanema beach, the room was clean and very adequate, but not huge, the breakfast buffet was absolutely divine. Next trip to Rio I will definitely stay here again. It is RIGHT ON. tHE BEACH! The outdoor cafe is great for people and beach watching
