Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
"Great views of Rio, and a bit of history, and free!"

If the weather is not great (clouds) to visit the CHRIST / Corcovado, and/or if you do not have much time, you can have great views of Northern, central and south parts of Rio from here. If you have time, visit also the Museum (next door).
You get there by bus or tram, walk a bit and finally get to this big house. Very very interesting. I was looking for Debret drawings and found them right there. As well I found so many others I didn't know about and loved them. The price is low and the place is amazing. If you want to see paintings,...
our local guide suggested a visit as it was one of the few museums open on a Monday. What a surprise! Two floors of interesting paintings and lithographs of local scenes from late 19th and early 20th century and a Picasso! The highlight was a room of lithographs of individual animals... Quite superb.

This is a unique place with friendly service, excellent food, fabulous cocktails and amazing atmosphere. The owner is around and talks to everyone. Really worth it! Tammy, the waitress, was really cool and always gave her honest opinion, which was helpful and greatly appreciated.
"Excellent choice of veggie options with English speaking staff"

Amazing location at heart of Santa Teresa. Waiters knew English which is rare in Brazil. Very good choice of veggie options- again a rarity in Brazil. Delicious food. Reasonable price. Faultless service.
The place was wonderful, the dishes were perfectly presented and tasteful with selected ingredients making for an excellent gastronomy experience. The restaurant offered prime service, from chef Steban to Solto, the maître and waiters Alex and Aroldo.
The hotel is really great, very nice and big rooms and all surroundings are just perfect. We had such a great time at MGallery and can 100% recommend this place in a very nice and safe area in Santa Teresa.
We had a great stay in Mama Shelter. Very comfortable rooms. Breakfast is just great. Everything is made fresh. Orange juice, bread, cake, omelette etc.
People at reception are very friendly and fluent in English. Caipirinha in the bar from the finest, as strong as u want. This is Brazil from the it’s best side!
Also dinner was very good,...
As one of the other reviewers said, this is probably one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in! Every little extra is thought of, beds are so comfortable, rooms are beautiful, breakfast is something to look forward to and that view is incredible! I would 100% stay again.
