Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
Route 35 tram is a great to get a feel for the area. I suggest going on an entire loop and then get on and off at things that interest you. The tram was very crowded but people were always getting on and off so you soon get a seat.
For those that don't know, an arcade is a bit like a shopping mall, only done in a smaller, much more beautiful venue. This one is my favorite. It's got some wonderful shops (don't miss Haigh's if you like chocolate or Gerwithaus if you like spices) and cafes.
Free wifi. Free exhibition. Beautiful 160yo building. Must visit if you are in Melbourne CBD. Don't just snap some photos from outside of the building and do stroll through the library and check out the stunning dome!
a cool piece of australian history. this is also where ned kelly was jailed and executed. recommend paying the little bit more to take the guided tour as it's very informative. the ticket also includes the watch house a short walking distance down the road.
The red wine cask added a pleasant aroma and taste to the Victorian malt I enjoyed. An amazing array of malts is the reward for finding the front door... and getting there early enough to avoid queuing.
If whisk(e)ys from all over the world are not your thing then there is a wide choice of cocktails on offer, and food...
Lovely galette, with a wide range of fillings. It's nice to find such a wide range of gluten free options and served by great wait staff.
Reasonable prices an quick service. There's work going on in the lane, but don't let that put you off. We'll worth a stop.
I arrived after waiting 20 minutes for a table and ordered a glass of Rose to accompany my Squid ink pasta. The pasta was cooked to perfection, simple but effective flavours. It took a while to be served but they were very busy and I must admit for only a few wait staff, they did their best to get to...
Funny place. Quirky and unusual but the meals were fantastic. Staff were very casual and friendly. We had the pizza and the spaghetti.. both meals were great. Very reasonably priced. 👍 glad we visited.

This is a well rated smallish restaurant tucked away off the main streets in Melbourne.
I found it cold sitting next too the window on a chilly Saturday evening. I didn't ask to move as the restaurant was fully booked and only 2 tables or so remained free when we walked in at 5.30pm
The food was nice but truthfully...
Great service from check-in to check-out, fantastic room; love the all inclusive rate - there were no sneaky extras with this stay; and of course excellent location; close to great restaurants and theaters.
The QT hotel offers cool design and a central location. The rooftop bar is great for sunset drinks and the Pascal restaurant had yummy breakfast. The room was a little tight (we got the standard king) so next time I'd splash out and go for the bigger room with a bath. Overall a nice stay. I'd return.
We stayed at the St Jerome's Hotel for one night. It was absolutely incredible! The whole experience is amazing. There were free desserts, cocktails, tea, ice cream, bowling, meditation and breakfast. The tent was gorgeous and decadent - we ordered a cheese platter that was waiting for us upon arrival (I would highly recommend this!). The service was really friendly...
Treasury on Collins is a very stylish and comfortable hotel. From the Molton Brown amenities to the free breakfast (when you book directly) this hotel gets it right.
The staff are all polite and well trained. They acknowledge and appropriately engage with you and offer assistance when you need it.
The rooms are well appointed. My room had a very...
A very well appointed city hotel that has everything within a short stroll or tram ride. The hotel has everything you need, the staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. I would stay here again without a doubt!
