Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
For any lovers of classical music, particularly the music of Joseph Haydn, this is a must visit.
Haydn lost his job at Esterhazy when the orchestra there was disbanded. But he was then a free man & could retire with a pension in Vienna. He bought what was then a little cottage in the country outside Vienna in 1796 with...
The "Fillgraderstiege" is a wonderful example of Jugendstil architecture, built between 1905 and 1907. Best you reach the "Fillgraderstiege" from the shopping street Mariahilferstrasse, from about no. 25 and Theobaldgasse.

Dined out with friends from Hungary, they had booked this restaurant as they had been here several times before and knew some of the staff. It was an unforgettable evening, very serviceminded staff, the food was very good. The staff had a impressive knowledge of the menu and made very helpful recommendations. They also know which wines going best to...
If you want autenthic thai food, this is the place to be. Must book in advance, otherwise they are fully booked.
Every dish was amasing there and the portions were very large.
Totally recommend the Tom Yum soup. The best I've ever had so far.

We checked TripAdvisor reviews for a decent steakhouse during our stay in Vienna. This one came high on the list.
We were looking for a steakhouse that could accommodate us around 9pm after an orchestral recital finished. We booked at lunchtime on the day with no problem. The restaurant was still fairly full when we arrived and our table was...
Decided to check this place out as we were in the area and had read good reviews. Definitely worth a visit if you're around. Friendly staff, delicious food, good drinks. We went for lunch, and ordered from the breakfast menu (served until 16:00 - I love second breakfast!) Tasty meats, cheeses, breads, and perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs. Recommended.
This is a lovely hotel located a half block from the Museum Quartier and the ring. Our room was very large for European standards and had a couch and desk along with a little balcony overlooking the street. The bathroom was also pretty large and we loved the big fluffy bathrobes. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made...
Very welcoming and homey hotel. Excellent service, amenities and location. Nearby subway directly connects to the State Opera an advantage for rainy day. Love their breakfast fresh Viennese bread and cakes are so delicious!
The only “negative” point is for the house keeping service because they entered the room even if we had the “ do not disturb” sign on the door. But everithing else was excellent. We had 2 wonderful nights spent there, congratulations to the entire team! Breakfast was also very good and with tasty food.
Clean, big room, small fridge, heating OK, WiFi great. Bathroom: clean (with shower), but no slippers and no shower cap.
Staff OK, helpful. There is also underground parking for a fee.
Location: 300 m to Metro U3 (Mariahilfer St.-the largest shopping street). Billa is just 2 min away from the hotel!
It would have been nice for a double room...
I made a last minute decision to ditch my Airbnb because of location. Kolping was great. When I checked in they gave me a room that I didn't like because of a wind-whizz sound and they changed me to a much better room. It feels like a hospital (clean) and I didn't hear a peep out of any rooms around...
