Get wherever you want to go in New Orleans with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there. As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines.

Highly recommend using the street car system for your trip to NoLa. We downloaded the LePass app and bought the multi-day Jazzy Passes ahead of time. Then it was as simple as activating the pass in app and showing the driver each time we boarded. It’s very inexpensive and efficient way to travel around the city during the day. Just beware in the afternoon the cars get very full and are standing room only!

Excellent service and very safe. I paid for tickets as I needed transportation but then found out that you can buy daily passes (you use as many times as you want) I would recommend using that option. I loved it so much I helped myself to move to places like the French market to the World War II Museum

The streetcars in New Orleans were incredibly easy to access, affordable, reliable, and family-friendly. My 3-year-old son loved riding these, and my husband who uses a wheelchair had no issue getting on and off anywhere we went. The lines are easy to navigate and run throughout the city. This was truly one of the most stress-free public transit systems we’ve used as far as handicap accessibility. We bought a day pass for $3 for each adult at a local CVS and my son rode free. If you’re coming to New Orleans as a family, skip the rental and take the RTA.

We bought a jazzy pass for two adults and 2 children and used it all morning for transportation around the city. We used a combination of the app and Google maps for more specific directions. Some of the trolleys were air conditioned, but even the ones without had the windows down and we were comfortable. It was a great way for the kids to rest between attractions and the most economical way to see the city.

This is an inexpensive way to get around the city. We only used the St. Charles Streetcar. I’d recommend getting the LePass app on your phone. You can purchase single ride tickets, 24 hour tickets or multi day tickets. We purchased the 24 hour jazzy pass on 2 nonconsecutive days it was $3 for each pass. The first day we used the pass, the streetcars seemed to be running on schedule. The second morning we tried to ride, they were really behind schedule. It’s not perfect, but is an inexpensive way to get around the city.

We rode the Canal Street, St. Charles, and the Riverfront streetcars during our week long visit to New Orleans. We found the Canal Street streetcars to be the newest and most fun ones to ride. St. Charles is the historical line, and we enjoyed it going out to the Garden District for our self guided walking tour. On the days if we were riding more than 3 segments, we purchased the Jazzy Pass. The pass is good for all RTA transportations, for 24 hour period. $3 pp is quite affordable, $0.80 for seniors!! Otherwise the fare is $1.25 per ride pp. Since we were doing touristy things, we were not in a rush. It probably isn't the fastest way to get around if you are in a hurry. For us, it was perfect!

The historic New Orleans streetcar service is a picture of efficiency. I had plenty of time to observe its comings and goings in front of my hotel, and it kept to schedule at any time of the day. Its importance in the city's life was evidenced in a small model of its train car in the lobby of the convention center. I was impressed with how the trains safely maneuvered around all the crossing pedestrians and drivers.

Very good for first time travelers to see the City on a double decker bus. The departure and pick up locations were every 25 mins in case you’ve missed the bus. Also a plus the whole tour and the tour operator gave us over the Loud speaker all the historical Facts and Buildings to look out for upon approaching . The PA system if you are outside ( upper deck ) was a little hard to hear because of Traffic and the Wind also part of it could be very Sunny if you were not under the coverings. If you want better reception it’s best to stay inside on the 1st floor of the bus plus the Air conditioning is there. One can ride according to their preferences. I enjoyed it all nonetheless .

Excellent way to take a break from walking if you are staying on Canal Street or somewhere close by. Use the Le Pass app on your phone and reserve any ride whenever needed. Each ride costs $1.25 and you can buy multiple passes from one app, like when you are a party of 5 you only need one app. the best part: the streetcars are air conditioned, so a little break from the heat is great!

For a ride on the St Charles Line (#12) , pick up the street car at St Charles and Camp street. The street car will run down St Charles thru the business district, then past Lee circle, then on to the medium of St Charles Ave. The medium shares both the in-bound and out-bound tracks. As you progress, the area moves from commercial (restaurants, hotels, etc) to residential (homes, apartment, mansions, etc). Keep riding to enjoy one of the oldest and most prestigious neighborhoods (uptown) in New Orleans. Either get off at Audubon Park (across from Tulane University and Loyola University) and return to the city, or continue to the end of the line (more historic neighborhoods) at Carrolton & Claiborne. At either location, board the return street car back to downtown. The return street car will drop you off on Canal and Claiborne which is across the street from Bourbon Street. Fare is $1.25 per person each way.
