THE 10 CLOSEST Hotels to Navy Pier

Hotels near Navy Pier

Opened in 1995, Navy Pier is a 50-acre scenic waterfront destination that’s home to countless restaurants, exhibitions, shops, entertainment, and more. Take a ride on the 200-foot-tall Ferris wheel, explore the interactive Chicago Children’s Museum, enjoy a free concert, or go on an art and mural hunt—all against the spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Adrenaline seekers will love the speedboat tours; otherwise, unwind on a sightseeing cruise. Parking can be rather pricey, so it’s best to make your way there via public transportation. You'll likely pass by the pier on a cruise of the Chicago River. – Tripadvisor

    A sad ending
On a fair day, a stroll along Navy Pier can while away some time in a pleasant fashion. A number of places to stop, have a drink and some food and look over the Lake. We walked up the right hand side of the pier and I would advise walking back down that side too. The left hand side walkway is almost all service road for the restaurants etc on the pier and there is only a pathway wide enough for 2, for visitors. And another warning. My partner cannot walk far without difficulty. We had taken a taxi down ($8) and intended to catch one back. The driver wanted a flat fare of $28 stating that this was the norm. We caught the bus and walked a part of the way.

    Nice mall. Overpriced Ferris Wheel
There is a really nice indoor/outdoor mall here with lots of restaurants and shops, as well as a children's museum. The Centennial Wheel ride is a ripoff. It cost us $76 for four of us to ride ONCE. None of the other rides were open either. The kids were pretty disappointed.

    Bummed
We love visiting the Navy Pier. We rode the "eye" and seen all the sights, enjoyed ice cream, and had hoped for fire works but found out, unfortunately, they do not hold them on the 4th of July. After paying the parking fee, that was such a bummer to know.

    Super fun place to stop
We loved the pier! Great views, fun to ride the large Ferris wheel to see the views. Good shopping inside for tourist items. We ate at Giordanos pizza and had great service and pizza.

    Plenty of fun year-round
Really pleasant visit at any time of year (including the depths of winter). There aren't as many outdoor activities during the winter, but it's still a nice place to stroll, and there are plenty of restaurants and assorted activities taking place. Over the summer, they have theatre performances, concerts, and festivals here as well.

    Fun place but crowded
It is a fun place with nice views. Fireworks during the summer on Wednesday and Saturday nights. It is expensive. Very crowded on weekends. You can get some local favorites like Garrett Popcorn and Kilwins. Be prepared for a lot of walking and long lines. You can take the water taxi to the museum campus. Several tourist cruises and dinner cruises depart from Navy Pier.

    Improved
After the Starbucks Reserve Roastery had a line wrapping around the block we decided to hit the Starbucks at Navy Pier. It has improved a bit since we were last at Navy Pier. Cute little open shops along the way. Very touristy but a fun place to wander and shop with your coffee not from the largest starbucks.

Things to do inside and out
We enjoyed a nice scenic walk along Navy Pier. The ferris wheel was operating and when the weather improves, there are more amusement rides outside. You can get a scenic boat or dinner tour from this location. Inside Navy Pier is a whole different experience with restaurants and shops. The Chicago Children's Museum is located here as well as the new Flyover Chicago attraction. Parking at Navy Pier is expensive.

    Miracles Happen!
Is there anything worse than losing your phone?? Well yes there is but it's really stressful. When I got home from my Navy Pier evening I realized that I lost my phone at Navy Pier. I had very little hope of getting it back but I filled out the lost property report. 2 days later I decided to go to the pier. I started with the two people at the front desk and they were lovely and helpful. Then Greg from the office came out to help. This guy spent a lot of time helping me and happy day - I left with my phone. I highly recommend Navy Pier! Great attraction and great experience, great employees. PS Let's not forget to mention the good and honest samaritan who turned in my phone. Wish I knew who it was but THANK YOU to all you honest people out there! Life is good!

    Nice for a one-time visit
This place is definitely getting an upgrade from my last visit, and it's been several years. I like the indoor dining and shopping area, although there aren't a lot of shopping choices. Of course the pier is iconic, so it's worth a walk to the end. I guess the only problem with the pier, it's so large and so long, if you're not just in it for the exercise, there isn't much of a purpose in taking the walk. There's a ferris wheel and some cool spots for tourist photos. There are also some nice public benches and recliner like seats at the lake end of the pier. On a beautiful day it is a nice walk.
