A tiny town surrounding a lake, Pushkar in Rajasthan is an enchanting place to visit. According to mythology, a lotus flower fell from Lord Brahma's hand, creating this lake. Many temples surround the water, with colorful ghats (steps) leading down for bathing rituals. While the architecture isn't grand, the atmosphere is truly special. Witnessing sunrise over the calm water and pilgrims performing puja (worship) is a humbling experience.

The lake at Pushkar has an incredible historical and religious significance. It finds mention in several sacred Hindu Texts and sources and is primarily associated with Lord Brahma, who is considered the creator of the Trinity of Gods-Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. According to most versions of the legend associated with the lake, when Lord Brahma killed the demon Vajranabha, three petals of His divine lotus fell in three parts, creating springs in their place, known as Pushkar. Later on, Brahma also performed a yagna at the place. However, at the end of this ritual, he was cursed by his first wife that, he would be worshipped at this spot only. The archeological dating of the lake measures that the lake existed even in the 4th century BC. In later periods it was referred to in many sources- from the inscriptions at Sanchi to records of Chinese Traveler Fa Xian. Over the period, many Rajput rulers and local chiefs of Ajmer tried to restore the glory of Pushkar. The lake lost significance only during the brief period of Mughal rule except during the reign of Akbar.

Pushkar Lake is a sacred lake of the Hindus. It is believed that a dip in the sacred lake may lead to cleanse the sins and cure skin diseases. However, the water quality may be a question mark. The lake is also surrounded by several shops, one has to walk through the market to reach the lake ghat.
