Incredibly exciting place. Great architectural building.
It was completely surprising how beautiful and exciting the station was. Many elegant shops and beautiful architectural sites in the building. The ceiling and the skylight. Connected by long escalators. Rarely have I seen such a beautiful Station. Regards, An & Ni

The most beautiful station in Japan, and perhaps in the world.
Beautiful station, the most beautiful station I have ever seen, designed by Hiroshi Hara. Besides the fact that several subway lines and train lines arrive and depart from this station, it is almost a city within the city of Kyoto. The station is 11 floors high with many shops and restaurants. In addition, there is a staircase to the top floor that also serves as a screen for Kyoto city marking and at the very top is the Skywalk. All beautiful, definitely recommended.

Very kind and helpful staff here!
I felt overwhelmed when I got out of my Shinkansen Train here. It was too crowded and everybody seemed to be rushing. At the Information Desk, an old man, speaking perfect English explained to me about the Day Pass, cost of tickets, where to wait for my bus outside, etc. This attraction is not only good for train services, but also for bus services. Outside, in front of it are Bus Stops for visiting local attractions of Kyoto. There are shops, restaurants, ATM, ticket machines, etc. at this station.

    Impressive and well designed
What a fantastic building! It is designed for energy saving and wow is it huge! The high ascending escalators take you to a sky garden on each end and a walkway between the two at roof level. Best to do this at night . Lots of shops and eating places and it also doubles as a train station . Well worth visiting. Bit confusing trying to find a restaurant you want to go to so just give up on that and walk around until you find a place you want to eat at in case you will never find it again.

    Airway
Since the creation of the innovatively designed Kyoto Station Building, I have looked up at the aerial path many times, but I have never walked in it before because I don’t have time. This time I had time to get to the bullet train I was planning to ride, so I went to the roof of the Kyoto Station building and the aerial path. I went by the central escalator, which was fun to ride because it was open to the rooftop. The central escalator is a very unusual escalator with a straight line from the second floor to the eleventh floor. The straight line distance is about 160m. I went to the roof, went back to the 10th floor and crossed the aerial path. The view from across the aerial path is very good.

    What a building!
Possibly this is not the world's best train station functionally (as a train station), but it certainly may be the most spectacular. The architecture is amazing. It is worthwhile to take the escalators up to the very top, to get a good free view over Kyoto. Sometimes, at night, there are light shows using lights on the steps to create pictures. These are very impressive. It's worth checking if any are happening while you are visiting.

    Train Station Worth Checking Out
This train station has it all and is a highlight during our visit to Kyoto. We visited in 2018 at the suggestion of friends and were skeptical at first but were very impressive with the train station. There are lots of architectural features to it that make it interesting including the Happy Terrace with unobstructed views of the surrounding city, the Skyway which goes high above the station, the grand staircase, and the large openings to see whats around like the Kyoto Tower. Our favourite spot is the ramen street on the tenth floor which features award winning ramen from all over Japan. You do have to queue and prepay using vending machines at most (if not all) restaurants but it is worth the wait if you have time for lunch or dinner in the Kyoto Station area. There are also numerous shops and conveniences that you would expect for a large train station in Japan and it is relatively easy to navigate. If you are a stamp collector like my wife you can go to the information centre or ask a station attendant for information on where to get your stamp. We spent a couple of hours at the train station and would recommend getting here before your train departs to check it out or planning for a lunch or dinner here after your train arrives. When we stayed in Kyoto we found that the Kyoto Station was central to all the activities we wanted to do in Kyoto and offered us easy and frequent transit solutions to get to what we wanted to see.

Kyoto Station offers a successful change
Here you can almost really relax after the countless temple visits 😉. Here there is a mega department store over 10 floors for a change, many restaurants - especially to mention the small ramen restaurants upstairs before the start of the Skywalk 😋. Many other restaurants - including very good sushi restaurants - around the metro stations!!

    Very striking
The bullet train brings you here exactly time! It is large and new-looking. There are at,east four hotels within a short walk. We had dinner in two parts: tardiness on floor 11 and ramen on floor 10.

Great view of a lighted LED staircase!
It is worth a visit to the huge and busy Kyoto Station if you have some time. Make sure you stop by the Daikaiden-Giant Grand Staircase from 5p.m. - 10p.m. each day on as the staircase is lit up from the 3rd floor to the 8th floor with colorful flashing LED lights of different themes depending on the month and season as the images are depicted accordingly. During our visit in July, the theme was "Summer- Gion Festival Lights." It was very colorful and many different scenes change and move around the staircase itself that acts as a background screen. There are no seats so make yourself comfortable by locating a good spot to view the lighted staircase. Also, there are people who sit and/or run up and down the staircase, so it may obstruct your view or while you are taking photos as it is a working staircase. Definitely worth a stop for a short break over to view it if you are in the Kyoto Station after sunset.
