The Cultural Heritage Centre established in the year 1994. Is the first of its kind in Africa dedicated towards exploring the rich treasures derived from African Culture. This family business is the result of culmination of hard work, unwavering dedication and knowledge acquired from the forefathers. At the helm of the affairs is the versatile managing director, Mr. Saifuddin Khanbhai, who has a solid knowledge of African Culture and traditions. Culture Heritage Center has acquired iconic status due to the unique structure of the buildings within its compound and having the treasure chest of African art which is keeping African Art alive. The main building is designed to resemble the Uhuru Peak of Kilimanjaro. It also has an impressive array of arts and crafts including unique masks, Verdite carvings and paintings by famous African sculptures. Cultural Heritage now boasts an impressible Art Gallery was build on his vision which was to promote the work of the local artists. The exterior of the Gallery is imp rived by a drum, shield and spear, all major African symbols. The symbols resonate with the role of the Gallery that is to represent, communicate and celebrate Africa's Cultural Heritage. Among its many world famous pieces of Art is a 18 feet family tree which took 20 years to make. People from all over the world also visit Cultural Heritage, for its unrivaled reputation of having the finest Tanzanite stones which are also found in the Mererani hills of Tanzania, best in the world. The interior has three areas (i) History, (ii) Wildlife and (iii) soul. Ethnographic artifacts fill the History area, the wildlife area consists of contemporary paintings and sculptures of the curvatures roaming the African Savanna and the soul area captures Africa's energy allure and essence. The art gallery also has an amphitheatre which often shows on the life of special Tanzanian tribes like the Maasai, Pygmies and Hadzabe. It is also used for conferences. Also offered at the centre are day rooms found on the top of the building. They serve as resting place in the calm environment after a long safari trp. The spa at the Gallery offers a verity of personal care and treatments. The proceeds from the Gallery go to the conservation of elephants in Africa and the main concept of this is anti poaching clearly defined by the sculpture of the large unique beaded elephant. However, other causes such as orphanages, schools and boreholes and well drilling benefit from the proceeds. The centre also has a restaurant, coffee chop, spice centre, beads centre, and flea shop, which offers a variety of artifacts at different prices. Apart from the art the centre vibrated with warm hospitality. Cultural Heritage is visited by tourists from all over the world. It has been honored by visits from distinguished guests and state leaders such as President Bill Clinton, The prince William of Holland and his wife, Former UN secretary Mr. Kofi Annan, and celebrities such as Cindy Crawford. However every visitor who visits Cultural Heritage is treated as a Celebrity.

We had read the positive reviews of the Cultural Heritage Centre in Arusha so we really wanted to visit. Unfortunately, we only had about 30 min before we needed to catch our flight (luckily the airport is very close). Our guide made a call to the centre & we were met by employees there to give us a quick tour & lead us to the areas we were interested in. They were so helpful & the place is amazing. Lots of beautiful arts and crafts from Africa. We met the “Tanzanite King” who quickly helped us pick out some items we were interested in. Great quality and quantity of tanzanite to chose from. We really wish we had more time to explore the large selection of art, but it was probably good for my pocketbook! I recommend making time to stop at this interesting place & I understand a Jane Goodall museum will be opening soon, which would be nice to see.
    Thank you for the review.

Jane Goodall has had multiple speaking engagements here- that’s an endorsement all its own. For shoppers seeking a curated experience of the best in African artifacts, fine arts, a restaurant, entertainment, and (key for many visitors) gemstones, specifically Tanzanite, this place has it all. While there is a great selection of tanzanite jewelry, the center offers amazing value in high quality loose gemstones of any size. One can customize any setting for their gem and pick up the finished jewelry in a week.

The Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre is worth a visit if your safari starts from Arusha and you have a few hours to visit. It has a large shopping area of locally made African items next to the large building with sculptures, artwork, textiles and carvings. There are plenty of low-cost quite nice souvenirs that are small and easy to transport, probably one of the better selections you will run across. They can also ship. The art gallery is well done, and they can ship. The shopping area is a key one for tanzanite, especially high-end stones. You will find tanzanite all over in small shops, but this one appears to have the best selection if you are looking for high-grade, clear stone.
Thank you for the review and glad you enjoyed your visit. Here you can shop everything from souvenir's, spices, tea, coffee, clothing, antiquities, paintings, sculptures to gemstones and jewelry. Our collection of handicrafts, carvings and artwork is vast. Thank you for the visit.

The first thing you notice about this place is the beautiful building, it is really amazing like a piece of art. There is of course a lot of arts, souvenirs and even gem stones available for purchase. We enjoyed our short stop here and would have liked to try the cafe but did not have time. The prices for some things looked a bit on the higher side compared to another place we stopped at but not by much. A good stop during a safari.
Thank you for your review. Our prices are based on fair trade. You are most welcome to visit us again and enjoy our cafe.

This is a great place to visit free of charge whilst in Arusha, with a great art gallery organised around a spiral staircase. We loved the African art with many wood carvings and paintings. The outside is great also with many sculptures of animals which we thought were stunning. There are also a number of shops with clothes and souvenirs, prices are fixed here and similar to European prices, for example a Tshirt is worth about 25 dollars. All in all, really recommend to visit this if you are in the area!
    Thank you for the review.

The Cultural Heritage Centre is a must for all art lovers! Two people in our group work in an art museum, that the Centre was really a treasure trove for them. I don't have such a knowledge about art, but I also loved it very much. Such an amazing amount of talent! The staff was very helpful and showed us around. We were a little pressed for time, our flight leaving that night, so we couldn't really spend there as much time as we would have wanted. Something for next time, I suppose. My only, very minor complaint is the lack of the history of Tanzania as a country and development through the years. If this history section was added, this Centre would truly be about the cultural heritage of Tanzania. Asante sana! We enjoyed our visit very much.
Dear paivir2024, Asante sana for your lovely review and thoughtful reflections! We're so happy to hear that your group—including those from the art world—found the Centre to be a treasure trove. It brings us great joy to know that even those without an art background felt inspired by the creativity and talent on display. We also truly appreciate your feedback regarding the history of Tanzania. You’re absolutely right—our cultural story is rich and deep, and we are currently working on expanding how we present it. In fact, we’re developing a new museum in collaboration with renowned photographers Angela Fisher and Carol Beckwith, who have spent decades documenting tribal ceremonies and traditions across Africa. This museum will focus on preserving and celebrating the diverse cultures within Tanzania, showcasing important ceremonies, traditional dress, jewelry, and the meaning behind them. It's our way of ensuring these stories live on for future generations and are shared with the world in a meaningful way. We hope you’ll return again when you have more time—and perhaps catch this new addition once it’s complete. Until then, thank you again for visiting, and we wish you safe and inspiring travels ahead. Warm regards, Saifudin Khanbhai Cultural Heritage Centre Management 📧 upa@habari.co.tz

We had a very good time at the Arusha Heritage Center. It was a nice and inviting atmosphere on our leisure day in Arusha. We enjoyed the handcrafted art and had good conversations with some of the artists. It is nice that you are able to meet them in person and the center had a friendly atmosphere. The prices are a bit high so don’t expect to find budget friendly items. Was a great time though and our guide Patrick from Tanzania Horizon Safaris explained a lot about the different local tribes and their traditional art.

Our family of 6, aged9-76, finished our 10 day safari with a visit to the Cultural Heritage Centre, and it was breathtaking. There are seemingly endless pieces of art to see, and/or purchase from beaded bracelets to tanzanite jewelry, to Maasai tire-soled sandal, to trader beads. We each came away with treasures to remember our wonderful safari, and memories of the culture of Tanzania that we so appreciated. Now that I am home, I wish I had made more purchases!
Thank you for the review. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Please do not hesitate to contact us on e-mail address: curator@culturalheritage.co.tz for all kinds of purchases required. Thank you for the visit.

This facility is a highlight in Arusha. We went back twice because there is so much to see. No matter what you’re looking to purchase they have it. From Tanzanite jewelry to small gift bracelets they can help you. Also, make sure to give yourself some time to try out the food in their restaurant. It was outstanding.
    Thank you for the review.

This gallery is free to visit and the artwork on display is simply amazing. But the know their prices too... I'm not sure who can afford the sculptures/paintings apart from big businesses or hotels. I believe you can negotiate, but I'm happy to view them for free! 😊 Well worth a couple of hours of your time.
Thank you for the review. Our prices are based on fair trade basis. Thank you for the visit.
