Ta Prohm (ប្រាសាទតាព្រហ្ម / Ta Prôhm) means “Ancestor Brahma”. It was built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th century and early 13th century; first was called Rajavihara (រាជវិហារ / Réachvĭhar) means “Royal Monastery”. It was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery, also a center of learning dedicated to his mother. Almost 80,000 people were required to maintain or attend at the temple, including over 2,700 officials and 615 dancers. It’s approximately one km east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray. The broken walls and structures, the residue from time, all speaks to timelessness, which makes it all the more beautiful. Hope they will not power wash anything there, or change anything. The forever beauty. 残破的墙壁和建筑, 时间留下的痕迹, 无不诉说着永恒, 也让它显得更加美丽. 希望他们不要用高压水枪冲洗那里的任何东西,或者改变任何东西. 永恒的美丽. There are many trees have long and huge exposed roots that intervened with the stonework, or grow on stones. Many windows look like perfect picture frames. After the tour, we’ve 20 minutes free time, which are all swallowed up by the street vendors. They’re persistent. They go where you’re going. A young girl followed me around, selling her white shirt. “Just buy one, it’s $5. I haven’t sold anything yet today.” It was 4pm … which made me feeling guilty. Ok, I gave in and bought one.

Although smaller than Angkor Wat, this place is still crowded with tourists. It can make photography difficult if you are looking for unobstructed views for shots. No worries, we still enjoyed the entire temple including the Tomb Rader tree, which makes for a fabulous photograph. There are other examples around the temple so don't stop at this one. We had a private guide with us which really makes a difference touring the temples if you can reserve the service. It's reasonable and worth it.

Amazing temple not to miss! Expect to wait for photo opportunities! On my third trip back to SR , I chose to do it with myself and a guide for 2 days in order to learn the history of each temple and it was so worth it. This temple is absorbed by beautiful trees and it really is an amazing opportunity to see what mother nature is capable of over time . You won't find another temple like this and there is plenty of great opportunities to take some really amazing pictures but remember when waiting at platforms built to take pictures that there are plenty of others waiting so maybe keep it short and sweet remembering everyone wants their pictures taken . I noted some guy taking over 5-10 mins posing while the like continues to grow waiting for him . Definitely put this in your must do bucket list if you haven't already. Maybe try visiting early in the morning when everyone is at Angkor for a more peaceful tour. here.

Partially restored temple complex in the style of Angkor Wat, but now largely given over to the trees that cover or emerge through the ruins. The walking tour takes you through the complex, allowing a sense of the previous scale, but now the more awe inspiring feature is the progress of the jungle in reclaiming its land. Mother Nature always wins in the end. The vegetation also provides some shade, bringing relief from the heat. As I’ve said in other reviews it’s hard to get your head around the jumble of stones without a guide. They help explain the history and some of the carvings that can still be seen. However, even without a guide it’s a very interesting place to wander around, pretending to be Lara Croft. When we visited there were people preparing to act in a tribute to the King, dressed in traditional regal clothing, which was interesting to see.

Ta Prom was a busy temple and many groups of tourists were here. It made for a little bit of challenge to get around and take our photos. The attraction was the temple being used in the Tomb Raiders movie but also the way in which the trees and jungle took over the temple and were still intertwined. We did find the “stegosaurus” carving and to us it did look very much like a dinosaur! Something to ponder how it came to be or just what we see in our own minds. Ta Prohm also had a number of restoration projects completed. The Hall of Dancers was particularly impressive with fully enclosed vaults that showcased their architectural skills. We spent almost two hour here.

We made as a third stop this temple always with the same ticket paid in the morning. The peculiarity of this structure is that, unfortunately, it has been destroyed over the years, they are trying to fix it with the years and with the money of tourists but still missing so much. A peculiarity is that the trees over the years have mixed with the stones entering the rooms. Definitely worth seeing. It was not particularly hot however I recommend bringing a bottle of water and take an organized tour that explains the story behind it well.

It is perhaps the most visited temple in the Angkor complex after Angkor Wat. Made famous by the film Tomb Raider. Everyone remembers Angelina Jolie going out inside the temple with her huge roots The temple is fantastic. The huge roots of ancient trees rising to cover the walls of the temple are absolutely magical. The most Instagrammable place in Angkor..hehehe. Fantastic photos (if the Chinese aren't taking thousands of photos leaving the space free)

This is a lifetime bucket list kind of place.   It’s in out of the way Siem Reap but it’s certainly worth a special trip to visit.  The complex is huge with many temples but we saw the three most popular temples - Angkor Wat, the biggest and best maintained, and Ta Prohm, the temple in which huge spung trees have retaken the temples over the past 400 years or so, and finally Bayon temple with its numerous buildings with many intricate stone wall carvings.  Ta Prohm temple is where the 2001 movie Tomb Raiders was filmed.  It's a little confusing on the listings of Trip Advisor's "Things to Do" in Siem Reap.  There are listings for individual temples which can each take several hours - that is, there is Angkor Wat (the biggest and best preserved), Ta Prohm temple (with the amazing tree growth), and also Bayon temple (with numerous buildings with many intricate stone wall carvings).  Then there is the listing for Angkor Thom, which means "Angkor Great City" and which encompasses the entire Angkor complex including Bayon Temple and Angkor Wat as part of it.  Be sure to have a tour guide and stay hydrated!

Impressive how nature has taken over the temple. Everywhere you look you see how the trees have overgrown the stones. It was used on the Film of Lara Croft Tomb Raider making it busier and lots of selfies. The guide said that many people ask about the tree during his tours. When we were there we had to wait regularly to be able to walk because someone had to be photographed. We have been there before and each time the trees seemed to have different colors. Oh, great.
