Resorts near Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) is a leader in African wildlife conservation. Through its Orphans' Project, SWT has raised over 320 orphaned elephants and rhinos. When grown, each orphan is reintegrated into a protected wilderness. The SWT Nursery, located in Nairobi National Park, is the first stage, where new rescues are nurtured by an experienced team of Keepers. Pre-booked visitors are invited to join the Nursery orphans for their midday milk feed and mud bath. The public visit takes place daily from 11am to 12 noon. From a variety of viewing platforms, watch the orphans enjoy their bottles and gather for playtime. A senior Keeper leads the visit. Access to this visit is by advance reservation only. Third-party bookings are not valid; all bookings must be made through the SWT Nairobi Office. A separate park entry fee, payable to the Kenya Wildlife Service, also applies. SWT is a donor-funded organisation. By visiting the Nursery, guests directly support its conservation work.

    Excellent Orphanage
It is a really unique experience seeing the way these babies are treated and rescued. It was evident staff work hard and are knowledgeable. My only downside is that you have to pay to see the orphanage and pay to enter national park. We had just been on safari so didn't need to visit park.

    Baby Elephants and more
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant orphanage is absolutely amazing where people can be close to orphaned elephants and even a baby rhino. To see these amazing animals up close and learn their stories is somewhat sad and heartwarming. I would recommend this to anyone travelling to Kenya as a must see and do. This was one of the highlights of our trip.

Beautiful elephant experience - highly recommend
I have supported this charity for about 10 years and adopted several elephants. It was so lovely to finally visit it. Great experience to see the elephants (and rhino) orphans. Very professional and informative experience. Make sure you have also paid the National Park entry fee - so good to book in a game drive too to make the most of the entry fee.

    Cuteness and a Good Cause
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is just really cool. I appreciated seeing the thorough care provided to elephants who had been orphaned in the wild and who otherwise would have died without care. Kenya provides great facilities to care for the elephants and one baby rhinoceros. Of course, you get to see the rhinoceros and elephants get fed with milk and slopped with mud. The interactions between the elephants was just adorable. If lucky, you can touch one. For me, I liked the thorough stories about each elephant, their survival story and the process to reintroduce to the wild.

Great experience with a serious awww factor!
Educational, fun and with a serious awwwww factor! Rafa the baby rhino leads off proceedings followed by his fellow orphans. Well worth the effort - informative and interesting it’s worth getting there quite early. Do sponsor an elephant for this very worthwhile cause

    A special experience
This place does amazing work rehabilitating elephants and rhinos who were orphaned and returning them to the wild. The daily 11am tour is both educational and will satisfy your need for a warm, fuzzy feeling. It is interesting to hear the keeper talk of their work and purpose and of course fun to see the animals up close. The elephants love their time with both a few bottles of milk and a splash in the pond. Reservations are required as is the entrance fee to the Nairobi Preserve but the experience and support of this organization is well worth it. This is a great resource to help save these magnificent animals. We have adopted an elephant and encourage you to do so too.

    Simply Amazing
What an outstanding morning at Sheldrick. I was aware of Sheldrick and knew of friends who had supported them for years. We were fortunate enough to have a private hour with Edwin, his staff, and the 21 beautiful elephant orphans. We also got to meet the one adult black rhino as well as interact with their one orphan black rhino, who I believe was 1 year old. The time with the elephant orphans we spectacular. After the orphans came running in (I might have cried a bit) and were bottle fed by the caretakers, we were allowed to meet them all. We got to pet them and play with them. What an absolutely fantastic experience. Edwin also provided tons of information about them and answered all of our questions. We will never forget it!

One hour viewing feeding time was well worth it!
My sister moved to Kisumu, Kenya this year and told us about the elephant and rhino orphanage she visited. When we planned our trip to visit her we put the baby elephants at the top of our must-do list. It was amazing, even though we didn’t manage to book a private group as she had. We went to the daily 11-12 feeding. The staff were friendly and informative. The crowd was probably about average in size and I got myself close enough to the rope fence to be able to scratch an ear, pat a backside and touch the wrinkly, hard skin of the small elephants. I thought I’d never wash my hand again. To think I’d made contact with an animal who would one day roam wild and grow huge was unbelievable. I’m so glad we made it to this place and I would definitely support their mission as best I can.

    Adorable orphans and wonderful work
We spent an hour in the company of 21 orphaned elephants and one baby rhino, and it was utterly delightful! The only negative thing was that it was very difficult to buy the ticket for the park, because none of our credit cards were accepted by the card reader. In the end our driver kindly paid on our behalf and we refunded him. This seems to be a normal occurrence and they don’t accept cash - neither shillings nor dollars - so aim to get to the park entrance one hour before the appointed time & be very patient! After the baby elephants had been fed, we moved on & drove round the Nairobi national park, seeing gazelle, buffalo, rhino, lion, giraffe, hippo & crocodile.

    A brilliant visit.
Myself and my partner visited Shedrick Wildlife Trust on 20th March. What an incredible experience and an honour it was to visit this amazing place. From start to finish, everything was fantastic. We booked online as advised for our visit - email communication was great - clear and informative. Arrival was welcoming - we arrived from the Nairobi national reserve rather than the main Sheldrick entrance. We paid our KWS fee at another gate as planned to spend the day in the reserve after the Sheldrick trust. The trust was exceptionally well run, it was clean, welcoming, informative. We walked down to the area in which the elephants would be and there was lots of information on route down, and interesting facts. Meeting the elephants was so well organised. The speaker on the day (apologies, unsure of name) was just incredible. His talk was perfect. He was well spoken and captivating and gave plenty of information without it being too much. We saw the beautiful elephants and also a baby rhino which was a very welcomed surprise!! The work of the trust was explained, and how reintroducing animals to the wild worked. We visited the gift shop after and purchased some beautiful souvenirs from an amazing visit which we will treasure forever. Incredible memories made here, thank you so so much and continue the hard work.
