Hotels near Cu Chi Tunnels

On your guided tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, you’ll learn about the history of this underground system. The tunnels were dug during the Vietnam War by Viet Cong soldiers as a way to move undetected and launch surprise attacks. Experience the tight squeeze firsthand by crawling through the tunnels, and fire assault rifles at the shooting range after. Pack bug spray and dress for hot and humid weather, arriving earlier in the day to beat the crowds and the afternoon sun. It's not recommended to visit the tunnels after a downpour, as the area will get very muddy.

    Down in the tunnels
Visit through this original aerial theater of firefights. There is still a tank with bullet holes. You see the terrible traps used by the Vietnamese and you descend into the small, dark, narrow tunnels. Now only those on the first level remained but our guide strictly wearing the uniform of that period told us that we went down three levels. Some tunnels stretched from Saigon to Cambodia.

Fascinating insight to the Vietnam War and the role of the tunnels during combat operations
I visited the Cu Chi Tunnels as part of a cruise ship excursion. I must admit I didn't know an awful lot about the finer details of the Vietnam War in advance of my visit so found the tour by our guide really fascinating, although it's clearly a story in history tinged with much sadness and human loss. Thousands of miles of tunnels were built during the Vietnam War by the communist guerrilla troops (Viet Cong) including a large complex of tunnels here at Cu Chi, located northwest of Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City. We had around an hour here but could easily have spent longer. I found it interesting to see the demonstrations of the various booby traps that were built, and it was certainly a weird experience to crawl through a short section of the tunnel complex and imagine what it must have been like in the war. It can be claustrophobic in the tunnels (for obvious reasons) and you need to be able to crawl or bend low on your knees to navigate them, but one 20m section was enough of a flavour for me. There is a firing range at the site which made it feel all the more authentic as you could hear constant gunfire as you wandered around the various exhibits. My tour was a little rushed at times...I would have liked longer to get video footage and photos of the various traps and sampled a bit more of the various exhibits around the site, but overall I thought it was well worth a visit.

    Historical, very interesting
Network of underground passages, a real city where the Viet Cong lived, dug in the 40s by guerrillas fighting with the French and then expanded during the war with the Americans. Built at various levels, ventilation system, kitchen, medical room, warehouses. Only one part can be visited, you can walk in a narrow passage (which has been widened), see various traps, watch a short introductory film, shoot rifles at a range. Very crowded not only by groups, but all with guides, an environment full of vegetation and very hot. Interesting experience, highly recommended

    Cu Chi Tunnel Experience
I pre-booked the Cu Chi Tunnels half-day tour through the Klook app. It's been about an hour since we met on the morning of the reservation date and moved to the Cu Chi Tunnel on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. The rectangular shape around the hole where my body entered in the Gucci Tunnel looks small, but I tried to see if my slightly chubby body could fit in, and I was able to get out without a hitch. I passed through the tunnel and came out from the hole close to where I came out.

A trip in the past to experience the real situation on the ground during the Vietnam war
Cu Chi Tunnel is a complex where visitors can experience the real on the ground situation at the time of Vietnam War with USA. Very impressive & a must visit place. It has real war time tanks, helicopters & other war time weapons on display, one can also try hand at shooting on payment of extra money. Very intersting place & a MUST VISIT

    Opt for the larger site!
I have visited the Cu Chi Tunnels twice - there are 2 locations and my word of advice is to choose the larger site. I did this on my first visit and recently went to the smaller site which was not nearly as good. Admittedly it was the weekend so likely to be busy, but busy is an understatement for such a small site (compared to the other). We were moved on by the tour guide as there was no time to wait for others to finish viewing/listening at certain locations which made it feel rushed and difficult to get a true sense of place (given the incredible history). The larger site was quieter and left more time for exploring and going down into tunnels. At both sites you are able to try machine guns (definitely not something I would do - it just did not feel appropriate). the issue I had with the smaller site was the noise - at the midway point of the tour they leave you at a cafe for 10mins but the gun range is right next to it and the noise is unbearable. They even leave ear defenders out! The sites offer an insight into the incredible stories and plight of those that fought in the war and I feel that the larger site did that justice. A chance to engage and truly imagine what life may have been like. The smaller site felt very much a tourist destination rather than having significant historical value. If I were rating the smaller site I would only give 3/5.

Sad History ....but so well explained !
A fantastic visit here today. Superb tour guide with us made it so enjoyable. Maybe bring a bottle of water with you as you do some walking around and it gets very warm. 34c today. The surface underfoot is uneven in places so be careful. Toilets are very clean. .

Where home improvement shows get intense
We squeezed through those narrow passages, and suddenly our apartment felt HUGE. Seriously, though, the ingenuity is incredible – kitchens, hospitals, living quarters… all underground! Warning: it's dark, tight, and a bit scary picturing what life must have been like down there. However, we gained a whole new appreciation for the resilience of the Vietnamese people. Bring a flashlight and a sense of humor, and you'll be amazed at the history hiding beneath the surface.

    Understanding the resourcefulness of War
isiting the Cu Chi Tunnels provides a sobering, eye-opening look at the realities of the Vietnam War. The vast network of underground tunnels demonstrates the extraordinary ingenuity and resilience of the Viet Cong guerrilla forces. Crawling through a small section of tunnel highlighted the challenges and sacrifices made by those who lived underground. The exhibits, short films, and knowledgeable guides offer a detailed historical overview of the tunnels' role and construction. While not a light-hearted experience, Cu Chi sheds light on a crucial aspect of the conflict. We found it a powerful and thought-provoking reminder of the human cost of war.
