- Gustavo WoltmannLondon, United Kingdom57 contributionsVisiting Charles Bridge in Prague was a truly magical experience for my family and me. This iconic bridge, with its medieval charm and stunning views, became one of the highlights of our trip to the Czech capital. From the moment we stepped onto the bridge, we were struck by its historic beauty. The bridge, which spans the Vltava River, is lined with baroque statues of saints, each adding to the bridge’s timeless atmosphere. We took our time walking across, admiring the detailed sculptures and the gothic towers on both sides. The bridge itself, made of sandstone, is beautifully worn, adding to its sense of age and history. One of the most memorable parts of the visit was the views of the city. Looking down the river, we saw the impressive Prague Castle on one side and the charming Old Town on the other. The skyline of Prague, with its red rooftops and historical architecture, was simply breathtaking, especially as the sun began to set. We spent a lot of time taking photos and just soaking in the scenery. The bridge was busy with tourists and street performers, which gave it a lively, vibrant atmosphere. Musicians played traditional Czech music, and local artists were selling their work along the sides of the bridge. My children especially loved stopping to watch the musicians and artists, which added an extra layer of fun to the experience. As we walked across, we learned a bit about the history of the bridge, which was built in the 14th century by Emperor Charles IV. The bridge was the main route connecting the Prague Castle with the Old Town, and its importance in Prague’s history was evident. There’s a certain romantic charm about Charles Bridge that makes it a must-see for anyone visiting Prague. We also enjoyed spending time on the Vltava Riverbanks on either side of the bridge. The peaceful ambiance, combined with the historic surroundings, made for a perfect spot to relax and take in the view. Overall, our visit to Charles Bridge was a wonderful experience. It offered a perfect blend of history, beauty, and cultural vibrancy. Whether you’re admiring the bridge’s architecture, taking in the view of the city, or enjoying the lively atmosphere, Charles Bridge is a must-visit when in Prague. It’s a place where the past truly comes alive, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most iconic landmarks in Europe.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 November 2024
- Adam T190 contributionsCharles Bridge is a historic Prague bridge that is no longer presented. You can visit the two towers at the two entrances to the bridge by paying a ticket that is not given. This allows you to get to the top to learn a little more about the history of the bridge and its legends. The bridge is lined with a succession of magnificent statues more or less renovated.Visited March 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 March 2025
- lillibet12309Preston, United Kingdom725 contributionsCharles Bridge is one of the iconic attractions in Prague and is absolutely beautiful. The best way to appreciate it is via one of the main boat trips on offer in the city. The downside of its iconic status is that it is full of people .... all the time! During our time in the city, there were literally hordes of people and many of these were on a guided tour. I think to appreciate its splendour without taking a boat trip, the easiest way is to get up early before it ends up too busy.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 June 2024
- nancy921Taipei, Taiwan20,341 contributionsIt is said that the Charles Bridge was built on September 7, 1357 at 5:31 a.m. This bridge crossing the Utah River was built over 40 years before it was finished! Charles Bridge 516 m, about 10 m wide, There are 30 statues on the bridge (15 on both sides), which is a great highlight of the Charlie Bridge~ Whether day, night, sun, rain, the view of the bridge is very beautiful~~Visited January 2025Travelled with friendsWritten 18 February 2025
- THOMASFROMDAMASCUSSyria4,145 contributionsIn my humble opinion, the third most important tourist sight in all of Prague must be the Charles Bridge! It is always crowded, morning, noon or at night with many tour groups. I really enjoy walking over the bridge towards sunset as the light at that time is very special and seems to ascent the 30 statues lining this beautiful bridge. Most of the statues were of various saints. This arched stone bridge was built in the early 15th century and took just over 45 years to complete. The Charles Bridge has had many names, but the one that is used since 1870 is the Charles Bridge. What I really like is that this bridge carries pedestrians so one can walk slowly across the bridge crisscrossing it at any time. There are many venders selling all types of touristic items from paintings to musical CD’s. For me the best walk is to cross the Charles Bridge from the Old Town towards the Prague Castle side and then make a left turn and walk along the Vltava River. There are many fascinating alleyways along the river. This walkway leads to the next bridge called Slovansky Ostrov Bridge which is genuinely nice to cross as it crosses Slovansky Island in the Vltava River. From this side you can visit all sections of the Old Town, etc. Prague is truly a walking city, and the Charles Bridge can be used as the center of this city.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 June 2024
- Zapryan DLondon, United Kingdom1,189 contributionsCharles Bridge is without a doubt one of the most iconic landmarks of Prague. The first stone bridge on this site was built in 1158 and it was replaced in 1357 on the order of Emperor Charles IV. It might be hard to imagine the bridge without its numerous statues today but the first statue was only added in 1657, nearly three centuries after the bridge's foundation. Perhaps the most famous statue on the bridge is that of St John of Nepomuk, a court priest to one of the Kings of Bohemia in the 14th century. Charles Bridge remained the only bridge between the Old Town of Prague and the Lesser Town until the 19th century, but today a total of more than 15 bridges cross the river. It's hard to decide whether it's best to visit the bridge in the early morning, during the day or at night, so I recommend you visit it at all of these times, which shouldn't be difficult to do considering the bridge's central location. My girlfriend and I found the bridge particularly romantic at night with the lights on and we enjoyed seeing it from many different angles during the boat cruise which we took in the late morning on our last day in Prague.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 November 2024
- BernardSalem, Massachusetts14 contributionsStunning views of the city! Vendors line the bridge during the day. If you are going for the views and pictures we'd recommend going in the early morning for sunrise as it does fill up fast. During the day you can still get pictures but expect to amongst many tourists.Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 December 2024
- iamadhirKolkata (Calcutta), India389 contributionsThe architecture at the entrance is awesome. There were statues primarily of saints, placed apart on the walls of the bridge. There were entertainers and vendors along the path of the bridge on the sides, some of them, probably tourists themselves selves singing in groups. The bridge was teeming with people, mainly tourists. If you don’t want crowds, early morning would be the best time to go there. We went in the evening and found it very crowded. But everyone cooperated when we took photos.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 August 2024
- HelenaHedemora, Sweden16 contributionsA lovely walk across the bridge. Day and night. Recommend to visit the daytime then there are more musicians, artists. To walk in the evening is very beautiful with lanterns and lights, and the view of the castle and the city. Same number of people regardless of time of day / evening.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 October 2024
- Gepi74Annecy, France5,051 contributionsAn unmissable and emblematic place in the city. Early in the morning, there are not too many people. During the day it gets busy very quickly, and until sunset. Some statues are attacked because some stories say that they bring good luck or that those who touch them will return to Prague. The view is very pleasant, especially for the sunset.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024
