- julesten2016Melbourne, Australia3,316 contributionsIlluminating Winter Walk, located in the Royal Botanical gardens. Having seen this event advertised last year we thought we would try this time around. We were unlucky with the weather which resulted in some experiences not working (Fire Garden). Due to the weather (didn't impact our visit) there were no crowds which resulted in us having more time at each installation. We lucked out at the Winter Cathedral having the golden fairy lighted archway to ourselves. The same applied to the "Submerged" 1000's of suspended lights that changed colour with movement. The self walk 2.1 km trail is designed in a one way direction which you can make as fast or slow as you want it to be. There are pop-up food and drink vans scattered along the path. The lights and music work in conjunction as you walk around the different themed displays. We opted for the early entrance and despite the light rain we thoroughly enjoyed meandering through the gardens. Highly enjoyableThank you for leaving such a kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to Lightscape. We look forward to having you back in the future.Written 7 August 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 July 2024

We learnt a lot and were pleased we did this free tour. Very worthwhile and a highlight of our visit to Melbourne.Hi Sally , thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about our Free Guided Walks held Tuesday to Sunday by our lovely volunteers. - TirexMusashino, Japan14 contributionsA free botanical garden and park across the Yarra River, southeast of Melbourne. I visited in the middle of summer, so I could see a variety of plants typical of the Southern Hemisphere. There are also many wild birds around the lake, which are not afraid of people, so you can observe them closely.Hello, thank you for leaving such a kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. We are very lucky to have so many birds and plant species to appreciate in the gardens. We look forward to having you back in the future.Written 2 February 2025This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 January 2025
- CrazyHairedTravellerMelbourne, Australia4 contributionsI purchased the Secret Life of Birds walking tour at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne as a gift for my sister, and we both attended. Despite being avid bird enthusiasts, we learned an incredible amount! Our guides, Paul and David, were extremely knowledgeable and eager to share their extensive knowledge about birds and the garden's flora. We observed various bird species, including wetland and carnivorous birds, and gained fascinating insights into bird anatomy and behavior. I highly recommend this tour to bird lovers and even those who aren't, as the gardens are breathtaking, and the scenery alone is worth the visit.Hi there! Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Our amazing volunteer guides Paul and David are always excited to share their knowledge and love of the gardens and its feathered inhabitants through their tours. We are so glad you had such a positive, informative experience. We hope to welcome you back to the gardens soon! :)Written 30 May 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 May 2024
- Melanie B1 contributionI attended the Forest Therapy session at the Royal Botanical Gardens. It was my first time trying this type of therapy and also my first time visiting the gardens. I loved every thing about this program and would definitely recommend it to anyone that loves nature and needs a re-set... Thank you to the 2 ladies that took our group. You were both so lovely and knowledgeable, and the hot lemon myrtle tea at the conclusion of the 2hours was a lovely way to end it, so thank you.Hi Melanie, Thankyou for taking the time to post such a positive review. We are so glad you tried forest therapy and found it to be the perfect re-set for you. Connecting with nature and enjoying herbal tea at the end is a fabulous experience! Our forest therapy guides will be thrilled to know how much you enjoyed your visit, and we hope to see you again in our beautiful gardens soon.Written 31 October 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2024Travelled soloWritten 28 October 2024
- Mcmellen BAvignon, France2 contributionsThe extensive lawns and beautifully landscaped gardens provide an ideal setting for relaxing. - Hendrik VMelbourne, Australia4 contributionsThe experience of Lightscape itself was magical and highly enjoyable. What I did find an issue was that while there are banners around the exterior of the gardens for the event, there never was an arrow to indicate where to go and we walked almost entirely around the exterior of the gardens. As a disabled person, this was very onerous and a very bad start to the evening. Maybe print on the tickets to use the Visitor Centre entrance. That will tell Google where to take people who do not know the area. Also - there were NO affordable souvenirs in the visitor centre commemmorating this worthy event, not even a fridge magnet. There were teatowels and lollies of various kinds, that is it. In fact there are not even affordable souvenirs of the Royal Botanic Gardens. The goods in the visitor centre may be lovely, but not really what one would expect as souvenirs.Thank you for taking the time to post this review, we are glad you enjoyed your experience on the Lightscape trail. We are sorry about the negative experience you had while accessing the gardens and in the shop. We have shared your feedback with our management who will use it to improve next year's event. We hope to see you in the garden again soon!Written 2 July 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 June 2024
- DX SingaporeSingapore, Singapore19 contributionsBeautiful, tranquil place to be in the middle of the city. I was on Melbourne for a business trip and before my flight on the weekend, I decided to visit the gardens in the morning. I was there for the birds as I enjoy wildlife photography, and boy I was not disappointed. I signed up also for the "Secret Life of Birds" guided tour by the gardens (you can sign up for it on their website), during which our passionate and knowledgeable guide David shared many interesting facts about the creatures living in the gardens. Great place to spend a nice morning or evening in Melbourne for sure! I'd go again!Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about our Secret Life Of Birds tour. Several hours to disconnect from the wider world, and to spend time in the in the wonderful gardens was a great privilege. It was such a special thing to do in the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens. The chance to connect, commune, and just be in nature was really one of a kind. Our guides were really wonderful and it was a great pleasure to walk with them and learn from them. - tammyBaltimore_MdBaltimore, Maryland4,407 contributionsSo glad I was told about this magical place, definitely stop at center 1st before going off on your own (which I didn't do), missed a lot & had to walk back especially to the breathtaking lakes. Some of the trees are just awesome, HUGE & majestic. Grass is thick & lush the farther you go into the park. Beautiful views of the lake with lily pads and birds all over. Gardens offer trolley rides around unfortunately I found out too late into the end of runs (5pm). Free to enter gardens Next to the Shrine of Remembrance, up the hill from the city TramThank you for your detailed and positive review of the Royal Botanical Gardens. We are glad you enjoyed your visit, and we appreciate you sharing all the wonderful experiences available within the gardens. We definitely recommend a stop at our Visitor Centre prior to exploring the area. Our friendly Visitor Experience Officers will always give you the best itineraries and options suited to your time and interest. We look forward to you visiting again in the future.Written 27 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 March 2024
