Hotels near Acropolis

This ancient citadel, built in the fifth century B.C., towers over the city and is home to some of the most impressive ancient ruins, buildings, and artifacts. The most famous temple, the Parthenon, was dedicated to the goddess Athena and is considered the peak of Greek art. You can avoid long lines by joining a walking tour of the site. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, as the walk up the hill can be steep and exposed to the sun. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

    A must see!!
A must see! We pre-booked and came here and visited on a Sunday, in hope for a quieter day. We walked to the site, which wasn't too far from the hotel and easy to find. You are allowed early entrance, 15 minutes earlier if needed which we used. The site itself is fascinating and very interesting, a must see in Athens! It was very busy, even though we visited in February. I think if I was in Athens during the Summer season, I would book and arrive early to beat the heat and crowds! We pre-booked our tickets at £13 per head, I believe to buy them on the day was about £20 per person, so booking ahead is advised.

In the afternoon it is better!!
We decided to go in the afternoon when it is less hot and there are fewer people, the tours are usually in the mornings, so we took that option. There was no line to buy tickets or to enter. Carry an umbrella with UV protection for the climb and long walks. There is wind up there and it was cool and the photos come out better in the afternoon light. I have visited the Parthenon at least 3 times and each time it seems to me that it has more scaffolding, the replacements are eternal. In any case, at any time there are A LOT of people, as in any such famous monument, so be patient.

    Athens to Sydney cruise 2023
One of the must-see sites in Athens. if you are staying in Athens, I suggest you go early before 10am as from late morning it becomes very crowded as the cruise ship tours begin to arrive. Also, it is cooler as it can get very hot later in the day, and there is no shade when you get to the top. It is a long walk to the top but well worth it.

It’s a truly beautiful place full of history!!! You can't go to Athens and not see the Acropolis :-) Visit in February, no wait at all at the entrance (we did it twice during the week and each time there was no one there when we arrived) and not too many people at the summit, so a very pleasant visit. pleasant in the sun but not too hot. It still lacks a bit of explanation and given the period we didn't find a guide... so I managed to find the information on the internet but it's not easy or practical so a bit of a shame because I find that it makes the visit less worthy of what it could be for this magnificent place. But for the rest it's really not to be missed especially for the price 10e per adult and free for children we found that it was really not expensive for the time spent there.

    A must-see place
I really enjoyed going up to this monument...the first visit when I arrived in Athens! Typical of what we have in mind when we come to this beautiful city. I especially recommend doing it at the end of the day to watch the sunset. Magic

Must see historical site in Athens
Amazing historical site. Can get crowded though. We visited during off-season so it was manageable. Lots and lots of walking. Take public transportation due to limited (almost none) parking. Also, lot of one ways and narrow uphill and downhill roads around. Nighttime view from anywhere in Athens is mesmerizing. You can do this site and Agora's in single trip. Lots of shopping alleys around the site.

    Beyond words
I had the luxury of having an opening slot (8am) in the off season. The first hour there were just a handful of other visitors on the monument. To be able to explore such a world wonder without the crowds was an absolutely incredible experience that I shall never forget

    Acropolis today
We toured the acropolis area. We got off the cruise ship the celebrity and had a wonderful taxi driver, who took us to the steps leading up to The Parthenon. The tickets on this day were totally free for all the events. Apparently on the first Sunday of the month of I believe December through March the exhibits are free. We also went to the changing of the guards and various temples of Poseidon and Athena. It was a wonderful day where we ended up at Placa before heading back to our ship.

    Picturesque views
We bought the joint ticket online and to gain access was via a QR code to enter. The views are picturesque and you can walk around for as long as you would like to. There are tours available which I would recommend to understand the history behind the Acropolis. I would recommend going early, we were the first in and on our way down from the Acropolis it was getting busy around 9:00am.

    Brilliant Acropolis Visit
Advised to book online before we got there- definitely the very best advice. Get tickets and avoid queueing for them- BOOK an early slot we went for 9 to 10am and got in at 8.45 consequently very few people walking up or around at the top. By 10am loads around when we got down we could see huge numbers like ants making their way up the paths. Well worth the visit Ticket allows entry to lots of other places

Wander through the narrow cobblestone alleys of this neighborhood at the foothills of the Acropolis. You'll find quaint shops selling jewelry, clothes, ceramics, and souvenirs, plus sidewalk restaurants and family-run taverns serving authentic Greek food. Being one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, you’ll be able to see Roman columns, medieval churches, and ancient landmarks like the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. The area gets busy, especially during summer, so visit in the early morning or late afternoon for fewer crowds. Explore Plaka and the nearby landmarks on a guided tour of Athens—it will typically include the Acropolis, Parthenon, and other ancient temples and museums. – Tripadvisor

  • Panathenaic Stadium Hotels
The Panathenaic Stadium dates back to the 4th century B.C. and was the site of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and remains the starting point of the Olympic flame torch relay. Made entirely of white marble, it's an impressive sight that's earned it the nickname Kallimarmaro or "beautiful marble". There are even a couple of hours in the morning designated for morning jogs when you run in the footsteps of former Olympians. Take a stroll up to Ardittos Hill for a panoramic view of the stadium. Tickets are required to enter the stadium, which includes a free audio guide. – Tripadvisor
