- ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΑ ΓThessaloniki, Greece41 contributionsNice routeChaos inside, everyone like sardines... but a perfect route, even for a few stops, is worth it. We took it and went up to Alfama. We went on Saturday, when the bazaar takes place. Very nice view of the city, from there you can book a tuk-tuk for a tour of Alfama, unless you feel like walking a LOT uphill.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 February 2024
- VickyLargsLargs, United Kingdom917 contributionsYou know it’s a must!Probably the first thing people mention when talking Lisbon so we had to try it. A day ticket of 6.8 euros covers it (or a zapping ticket which would cost 1.72 euros instead of 3 for the trip). Unique experience of travelling via winding narrow streets of Alfama. Definitely recommended.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 February 2024
- Maz80LondonOxford, United Kingdom318 contributionsThere are probably better trams than this!We took the 28 tram from the city centre to the end of the line around mid-morning. It was really crowded and we couldn’t see much. It was cool to go on an old tram but beyond that it wasn’t the greatest experience, but then it didn’t cost much either. Careful if you put the windows up. Several fell down while traveling…. And it could really hurt you if your hand was on the edge!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 February 2024
- guitarman555Greater London, United Kingdom105 contributionsBe prepared to queue, but worth it for seeing where you can explore laterWe queued and got on the third tram, around 20 minutes wait, this is very popular with tourists due to the route. We got on at Martim Moniz, walking distance from our hotel, we were fortunate that when we were able to get on we were at the front so got a seat. We travelled to the end of the route and other than a basic cafe, nothing to do except take the next one back, they are missing a trick here, but on the way back we got off near the castle and took in the views before doing the castle grounds and walking back from there. Very enjoyable way to spend time. You can use your travel ticket if you have one or pay cashVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 February 2024
- Dino3x3 contributionsTram 28 - Get on at the first stopSooo, we joined the line at the start of this tram line and waited over 2 hours. Don't ask me why, we just did. Anyway, as 2 couples we did enjoy the ride which my memory says was about 30-45 minutes. The way it works is that you wait in line at the start in order to be guaranteed a seat, i.e. they only allow enough people on at the beginning to fill up the seats. However, after that people are added at each stop until the aisle fills to capacity. So a small word of advice is instead of waiting in line, find out where the first stop after that is - I think it's close to the front of the train station. Then you can get on and enjoy the experience. Yes it does get crowded but it eventually empties out. But keep in mind that it does eventually come to a time stop where driver gruffly instructs you to: "Get Off!!"There weren't many people left at that point, so you get off, stand in a small line, and then get back on a few minutes later for a seat for the return trip. Despite the long wait we enjoyed it.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 March 2024
- mitchiaOwen Sound, Canada59 contributionsHuge LineThe line up for this tram at the start of the route (Martim Moniz Square) is HUGE We were in line for well over 1.5 hours (but one you've committed you don't want to get out of the line!). You should get a seat if you get on at the start but if you don't mind standing you may want to catch it after the first stop. It is fun to ride. It is one way so you need to know what you'll do wherever you get off.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 March 2024
- Sara-MeminellaVenice, Italy245 contributionsLisbon iconTaken as soon as we arrived in Lisbon to get an idea of the historic center of the city. Early in the morning (8.30am) on a weekday the queue moves very smoothly and in approximately 20 minutes you get on board and find a seat. We did the whole journey from terminus to terminus.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 March 2024

- caster9415 contributionsVisit Lisbon by public transport: Tram 28.You can't go to Lisbon without taking a tour on the legendary tram 28 which, in addition to being overrun by tourists, is normally used by the inhabitants to reach some areas of the city with narrow, uphill alleys. The complete tour starts and arrives from Piazza Martim Moniz, but if when you arrive there is a very long queue and it would take hours before you can get on you have two alternatives: either go with a private Touk Touk (small ape cars and toy cars with drivers who illustrate the route), or if you decide to use the public transport day ticket, the advice is to arrive with a bus to the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, for example the number 737 which leaves from Piazza Figuera and also has a stop for the Sé, the cathedral of Lisbon, and from Miradouro take tram 28, where if there is still room you can get on (20 people seated and 38 standing). Perseverance is rewarded.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 March 2024
- Ann HYork, United Kingdom2,606 contributionsGreat way to access the old town of Lisbon! This was one of the things the receptionist at our hotel recommended to us as a fun thing to do and we certainly enjoyed it. Having seen the queues at the stop where the line starts, we left it and got there the following morning before 9am and it was much less busy. It was lovely to see and have a trip on such a lovely old tram and going through all the old town, up and down the hills was beautiful. Worth the time to do this activity.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 March 2024
