It’s walkable to many restaurants, sights, shops, and other Lisbon neighborhoods. The architecture and public art forms (old and new) are striking and make you feel like you’re walking through an outdoor art gallery. The Metro is easy to navigate and ticket machines have English instructions. Second tip get out early for the main sites like the St George Castle which is a great walk up from Rossio. Despite that, the staff really looked after us two oldies, first providing a seat, then grabbing us a table as soon as vacated. We walked up the hill although there is a tram and lift! and we took him down to Rossio Square. Maybe approach the area from the side (walk to it from a different area to get to the top), then walk down hill to visit/see this area. Walking straight up this area, seems very steep. Being a maze of options you need luck to find all it has to offer. We went there by number 28 Tram and once we had finished had quite a Challenge getting a taxi. We stayed in hotel Borges Chiado which is very central between Chiado and Alfama and the tram 28 E and the metro pass directly. But we have walked most of the time. We loved the atmosphere and the people! The narrow streets in Alfama going up and down are lovely and there are tiles everywhere and not only in the museu de azulejos though we visited this too and was really nice. There are many places with live music and lovely food in the many, many restaurants. - joseph c27 contributionsCharm and style in Bairro AltoBairro Alto offers excellent breathtaking views of Lisboan or Lisboa. Excellent picturesque place with a charming inside. The Miraduro of Sao Pedro de Alcantara is just excellent. Food is great as well and Bairro Alto has a lot of hidden gems. Alongside with Chiado, Bairro Alto has the upper hand in prices and styles.
