Nicknamed "Brussel's Oldest Citizen," this bronze statue of a little boy and a fountain was designed by Jerome Duquesnoy in 1619, and has become a familiar (and irreverent) symbol of the city.

    Lacking Significance
The Manneken Pis, a sculpture depicting a naked little boy urinating, is a popular destination in Brussels for tourists and tour guides; during the few minutes I was there more than 100 people from various countries were present. During the very brief visit, I assisted several people take group photographs. The current sculpture is a replica; the original is in the Brussels City Museum. This statue, and the people flocking to see it, brought to mind the title of William Shakespeare’s comedy written in the late 1590s – “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Yeah it’s small, but you have to see it…
Of course it’s a small statue, but for sheer farce it is a must see. Yes you can take a picture and walk past. But if you’re in Brussels you have to… or course. So 5 stars for making a random statue a global landmark.

    Be Prepared for Crowds
You will find crowds of tourists here snapping photos of this very small fountain sculpture. It is one of the iconic images of the city, a bit cheeky to be sure. But I did not find it interesting or attractive. And the crowds are rough.

    Interesting but very touristy
Very big tourist trap but nevertheless interesting to go and see. When we went it was surrounded by tourists and tour groups but you could still get a good view of it. Plus you have to go and see it when in Brussels really.

    Must see if in Brussels
We just had to go see it while in Brussels. If you are visiting the Grand Place (if in Brussels it's a must) then this is not out of the way. It is in the area of the Grand Place and is easy to find (follow crowd usually). It is an interesting statue/fountain and a cute little niche item for Brussels. I recommend the statue souvenir you can find everywhere (I got one LOL). took a few photos and checked it off the bucket list.

    Brussels’ Smile Generator
While Google directions to the well dressed fellow was inaccurate a local restaurant waiter @ Rue Des Grands Carmes 10 helped us to locate the amusing statue. It was smaller than expected but we had fun taking his picture. Minutes afterwards we were enjoying chocolate drizzled on waffles and pancakes, which were shaped in his image.

Quirky and a fun thing to do
Okay so the statue itself is not that exciting but we became obsessed with “the boy”. We stayed just a few blocks away so visited him often to check his outfit or see him nude. There is also a statue of a girl and a dog peeing nearby. We were sad the museum with all the outfits was closed but if you go to the city museum they have the original statue and a few outfits. It was a fun thing for our group!

    What will he be wearing
This little guy has quite the history, some true, some untrue and most unknown. It is interesting how popular this small not unique statue has become as a centerpiece for the area. The day we saw him a school had won a contest and dressed him as a hippie. There is a man whose job it is to change his costumes regularly, so he is often dressed.

    Fly-by Worthwhile...
A fly-by is recommended while in Brussels. You'll snap a quick photo and then probably be on your way. Try to come earlier in the day as it can get very busy as crowds of people show to check him out. That being said, they do dress him up from time to time to celebrate various alliances and occasions. He is dressed for almost half of the year. The official calendar is published once a month - simply google Manneken-Pis dressing calendar.

    Manneken Pis
Manneken Pis is quite small but very charming. The surrounding area is lively, and full of cute cafes and shops. We loved the festive outfits the statue is sometimes dressed in. Definitely worth a quick visit if you’re nearby. - Anna Thompson"
