    …SYMBOL OF FLORENCE!!…
…nice to be here!!…Ponte Vecchio in Florence!!…a historic bridge!!…it is said to be the oldest to cross the Arno!!…it was built at the narrowest point of the river!!…already in ancient times Roman!!…then clearly over the years it was damaged several times!!…but then again built with three arches!!…and it has resisted ever since!!…and it was the only bridge in the city that was not bombed by the Germans during the Second World War!!...at the time the bridge was the meat market!!...because the butchers kept their shops here to be away from the houses and keep the city clean!!...and so they could throw away the waste of meat processing directly in the river!!…then a few years later…on the orders of the Medici lords…the artist/architect Giorgio Vasari built the Vasari Corridor!!…the private gallery that connects Palazzo Pitti to Palazzo Vecchio!!… so this renovation also gave a particular aspect to Ponte Vecchio!!...then over time the shops on the orders of Ferdinand I...who passed through the Vasari Corridor every day!!...and didn't like smelling those smells!!...were occupied by goldsmiths and jewelers!!…in fact nowadays Ponte Vecchio is a shopping street!!…but what can I say!!…nice to be here!!…unique architecture in the world!!…it's Ponte Vecchio in Florence!!…

    Old Bridge
Of the historic Florentine bridges over the Arno, Ponte Vecchio is certainly the most famous as well as particular in its structure and shapes. A peculiar characteristic of the bridge is that it is flanked by an uninterrupted series of artisan shops, mainly goldsmiths. In the center of the bridge there is a panoramic balcony overlooking the river, where there is a bronze monument dedicated to Benvenuto Cellini. A bridge that has now become one of the symbols of Florence and for this reason always very crowded with tourists.

One of the most easily recognisable bridges in the world
Ponte Vecchio is one of the most easily recognisable bridges in the world. Crossing the Arno in the city centre of Florence, this arched stone bridge dates back to the Middle Ages but is famous these days because of the cluster of small buildings and shops, beautifully fitted atop Ponte Vecchio, creating a must charming scene for photographs when visiting the city. You can walk over Ponte Vecchio as well. Most of the shops these days are goldsmiths and jewellery dealers. There is a monument 16th-century Italian sculptor Benvenuto Cellini in the middle of the bridge as well. You can take nice pictures from this centre area of Ponte Vecchio which opens up to the Arno River on both sides. For good pictures of Ponte Vecchio, just walk the sides of the Arno or make way to Ponte Santa Trinta (northwest), Ponte alle Grazie (southeast) or all the way up to Pizzale Michelangelo where you can spot the bridge amongst other city landmarks from these elevated grounds on the Oltrarno side of the river.

    Bridge with so much history
While casually strolling through the city, we came across this bridge. It’s over 30 meters in length and crosses the Arno River. This is a very picturesque area. A little history I learned about it was it was opened in 1345, while construction lasted from 1335 to 1345. I admit that this might not be on everyone’s list of things to see, but I’m glad I saw it while in Florence.

    A lovely place to wander
A must see in Florence - this bridge has changed purpose over the years so has so much history. The shops are great to browse. It gets busy during the day so take care with bags and belongings. You can get the best pictures of the bridge from the next bridge along.

    Best at night
Obviously worth the visit! I crossed this bridge many times, and I must say I prefer the night. I was overwhelmed in the day, by the number of tourists, and won’t realistically wake up early to see it. Night is wonderful; you can really see and understand where you are, without other tourists overwhelming the experience. Don’t miss the statue of the Nazi commander, who decided it was too incredible to bomb in the war!

Not the only trade bridge in Europe. But the most famous.
Ponte Vecchio is not the only trade bridge in Europe. Trade was organized on most bridges in the Middle Ages, because you can’t walk past a bridge if you have to? The names of Parisian bridges speak about this; there is a famous bridge in Erfurt, no less beautiful, by the way, than the Ponte Vecchio. But the Old Bridge of Florence has become a brand, and for a long time. So much so that even the Nazis, during their retreat, left it as the only one not blown up. All bridges were blown up during the retreat, but this one was not! True, the entire block nearby was destroyed, so it was impossible to approach, much less drive through, it. Now the bridge is still a large store across the Arno. Only he does not sell meat as before, but jewelry. This has been the case since the time of the Medici, who, walking along the Vasari corridor from the Palazzo Vecchio to the new Pitti Palace, strongly disliked the stench of meat. Nowadays the only edible thing is ice cream. Come here for gold, jewelry, watches. Very few people buy it. most, like me, just watch. We didn't come for hours...

    Some good photo opportunities...
Very nice old bridge that's worth a visit. It gets a bit busy here but it's easy enough to amble across and appreciate the views, architecture and ambiance. Built during Roman times over the Arno River, this bridge was swept away and rebuilt several times. The current bridge has stood the test of time since 1345. There are a few little cafes around and some good photo opportunities.

    Old and busy bridge.
One of the landmark buildings is the medieval Ponte Vecchio, which spans the Arno River. There are several shops on the bridge, most of which are closed on New Year's Day. The upper gallery was also not accessible at that time. This bridge is extremely busy, and that was clearly noticeable. You have a view of the river in the middle. The best way to see the bridge is from a distance, and that is quite possible.

    Don’tvmiss sunset from Ponte Vecchio!
Can Florens be seen in a day? Yes, it can.. but there is for sure more to discover! Sunset from Ponte Vecchio however, is a must! Walk the bridge, but walk also the bridges on either side, to get a great view of it! The distances are shorter than one thinks, and there is lots to offer on both sides.. Cross the bridge from the Uffizi gallery side, there are great little restaurants just accross. It is slightly less busy, but shops, museums etc to be found!

This neoclassical-style piazza built by Giuseppe Poggi in the 19th century offers some of the best panoramic views of Florence's historic center. The plaza is also home to several replicas of Michelangelo's famous sculptures, including David and the Medici Chapel statues. To get to the piazza, you'll need to climb up a steep hill, but the unobstructed views are worth it. Sunset is a popular time to visit when the plaza is bathed in golden light. You can take a taxi or car tour up the hill, or for a unique experience, pass by the piazza on a Vespa tour through Tuscany from Florence. – Tripadvisor
