Navigli is a charming area in the heart of Milan, known for its network of canals. However, don’t set your expectations on a Venetian experience—you’d be disappointed. Instead, think of it as a vibrant neighborhood about a 15-minute walk from the Duomo, blissfully free from the throngs of tourists that flood the city center. Navigli has its own unique appeal, with lively bars and restaurants that truly come alive later in the evening. It’s a bit like discovering a suburb of Milan that hasn’t succumbed to the usual tourist hype, offering a more authentic slice of local life. The atmosphere is relaxed, the vibe is energetic, and it’s a refreshing change of pace from the busy streets around the Duomo. My only word of caution is to prepare for mosquitoes, especially in the height of summer. With the canals’ stagnant water, it’s practically a mosquito haven. But don’t let that deter you—if you’re in the center of Milan, a walk to Navigli after dark is well worth it. It’s a safe and intriguing way to experience a different side of this fabulous city. And if you’re looking for a place to stay, there are some excellent hotel choices in the area. I highly recommend checking out my review of Aethos Hotel, which perfectly captures the vibrant yet cozy essence of Navigli.

A short distance from the centre are these famous canals. There is even a tram directly from the square by the duo. Here you can stroll and enjoy car-free zones along the water. Often there is live music too. Generally speaking, it is cheaper here than in the city centre, so take the opportunity to drink and eat something here.

Go in the late afternoon, order an Aperol and win a snack (usually a bag of potato chips), enjoy the environment and stay until sunset, watching the sunset on the canal is unforgettable! Seeing the going and coming of people and boats across the canal is feeling the climate and enjoying Milan. If you don't like drinking, go still, just to walk and enjoy the view that is very worth it. You won't regret it.

The interconnected 5 canals date back from middle ages. We found a cool vacation ambiente here, plenty of al fresco drinking&dining. Most of the places along the Navigli look the same, but watch out! Some tourist traps are waiting for you! Check prices before sitting down! Great for a pit stop and people watching. Once a month, the last Sunday of each month, you can enjoy a huge flea market along the canal (Mercato dell'Antiquariato sul Naviglio Grande) .

Navigli by night :-) For me a calm run from via Cenisio through Porta Ticinese andfor my husband a bicycle from the wonderfull app Bikemi! We visited The Discomane Snc, a nice vinyl and cd shop with great prices, on Alzaia Naviglio Grande, 38 and a few steps ahead, the good bookshop Libraccio Milano, Alzaia Naviglio Grande, 26. We had a coctail and a pinsa on the go both very good! I could'nt suggest a visit here, at Naviglio, enough! Views, lights, music, food and drink everywhere and not only for tourists. Good prices, easy to reach with tram number 2, metro 2 and bus 91 and 98. Pedonal area, with the possibility to run by the canal easily. Interesting place for architectural history, with samples from different ages and some interesting bridges over the canals. I saw a venetian gondola and some river boats in the Canale Grande so there is a chance of navigating the canals but I had no time to check the timetables. Behind the main canal, there were some nice vintage shops, (designer objects, clothing and shoes) but again I had no time to visit ... All in all, don't miss the chance to spend some time in the area, it's something different and refreshing in Milano!

By taking part in a trip organized by an agency I was able to take a tour on a boat on the Navigli. It is a different and captivating Milan, above all carefree, romantic, and full of clubs, it represents one of the places of nightlife in the city. I liked it a lot the atmosphere and the place even if a little chaotic. Definitely recommended.

I state that the page continues to report, incomprehensibly and despite the reports made, the wrong address of Largo Cairoli, which has nothing to do with the Navigli. Which, apart from that of Martesana, are located in the Ticinese district, meaning by "ships" the Great, the Pavese and the Dock with which they both communicate. The whole area is teeming with restaurants and entertainment venues, as the hapless inhabitants struggling with "nightlife" and various outbuildings know. But the Navigli are much more and much more. However, it is necessary to approach them with curiosity and slowness, obviously in the quietest and therefore authentic hours, in the most remote and mysterious corners, between courtyards and railing houses, as I have done in recent weeks and again yesterday morning. We took a taxi from the Duomo square to visit the canal area, about 11 euros. We were there in the morning, so quite quiet but very pleasant. We strolled down the side of the canal, lots of cafes, plus shops and craft stalls. Also some attractive garden courtyards to visit and some with small shops inside. Several bridges you can cross to the other side of the canal. It was great to visit another very interesting area of Milan.

The centerpiece of Milan, the Duomo is one of Europe’s greatest architectural and cultural landmarks. As Italy’s largest church and one of the largest in the world, it took over 600 years to build. Today, the Duomo has a capacity of 40,000 people and is home to the world’s second-largest organ. Admire the wide selection of religious art on display inside, or marvel at the 3000 statues that line its Gothic exterior. Be sure to join one of the available Duomo tours, which include art tours and even rooftop tours, where you might be able to see as far as the Italian Alps. – Tripadvisor
