Hotels near Underground Naples

Check out a different side of Naples—think: an extensive labyrinth of tunnels that snake underneath the entire old town. Underground Naples offers a fascinating combination of caves, galleries, and passages 131 feet below the ground. Follow the official Napoli Sottrerranea route, which will bring you to the Roman Theater and the Greek-Roman aqueduct, or join a separate tour to visit the Galleria Borbonica which used to be a tunnel intended for the then King of Naples to flee if intended. It's highly recommended to pre-book skip-the-line tickets online to avoid long lines at the entrance. – Tripadvisor

An unmissable experience, if you are in Naples, but be careful: better to buy tickets online in advance because it is unovdi those sites in front of which long lines form, especially on certain days. This is because, even if the site sells out, you can stand in front of the entrance next to the church of San Gaetano and enter, paying on the spot a 10 euro ticket. We were lucky because we were the first in the long queue that would then form and we waited only 20 minutes to get in. Thanks to our friendly guide, Deborah con la acca, we discovered the subsoil of Naples, fascinating and sometimes claustrophobic (but there are escape routes), a wonderful tangle of narrow passages, wells, ladders, ponds, cisterns and much more. The visit lasts about an hour and a half. Then you go out, you reach a nearby lane, you enter a "vascio", a modest house, and here, under a bed, there is a hatch that leads further down, where a Roman theater stood, of which you can see the remains, embedded in the foundations of the houses. Stupefacente.

The visit lasts just over an hour, I recommend buying tickets in advance online so as to avoid long waits. The guide was very prepared and over there everything is really beautiful, even and especially the narrow tunnels. I recommend bringing a sweatshirt as it is very damp

One of the experiences to live in this city is certainly Underground Naples, a tour of about 1 hour where you completely enter another dimension of the city itself, all accompanied by a guide, Deborah, who is truly prepared and will be able to accompany you in the best possible way. ways. I highly recommend booking to avoid exhausting queues.

Alan was our tour guide, extremely informative and charming! He was very patient and passionate throughout the entire 2 parts of a tour (2nd part was a complete surprise and unexpected) Highly recommend this for people that want to see an alternative historic view of the underground city of Naples … covers Roman, Spanish, Norman , Greek and more modern times of the history of the city itself. If you are lucky to get Alan you will be truly blessed!

This was definitely one of the the highlights of our recent trip to Naples. It is absolutely mind-boggling just how much there is to explore, see and learn in the tuff caves first excavated by the Greeks of Neapolis and the Romans who came after. To think that this astounding engineering marvel built 2400 years ago actually functioned perfectly for over two millennia bringing beautifully clean, pure drinking water into Naples until it had to e shut down due to contamination from sewers built by the Spanish in recent history. The place literally takes your breath away. Be prepared for the narrow dark passages that are part of the tour. These were carved out by people much shorter and slimmer than modern pizza loving tourists! The visit to the buried ruins of the ancient Greek theatre where Emperor Nero performed was the cherry on a very satisfying cake. I am sure all the guides are great, but our guide Luis was excellent. Highly recommended.

Information released by the employee is confusing and inconsistent with reality. He told us that the visits started at 9.30 but instead they started at 10 After waiting an hour we managed to enter with our guide Deborah. Very nice visit, very good guide, prepared and friendly. I absolutely do not recommend it to anyone who suffers from claustrophobia even if the more closed passage is optional. It is possible to buy skip-the-line tickets online but it must be done at least two weeks in advance during high-crowd periods, we were there for the long weekend of April 25, 2024. Thank you DEBORAH

Punctual reception a little less at the start of the tour but more because of some late visitors. Duration of about 1h30, with an external passage on the site of the remains of the Old Roman Theatre incorporated into the basement of a tall and dated palace. Good guide who spared no effort in explanations and anecdotes in the various passages of large rooms, narrow tunnels and so-called "tanks" full of water. The passage in the narrowest tunnels (very narrow) was optional and possibly bypassed by another route. The number of participants (about 30/35) did not affect the success of the visit. Online ticket cost € 15 (with reservation of the time), on the spot € 10 subject to availability of seats.

The visit was interesting and quite complete and exhaustive. The Guide, consistent with the timing of a guided tour in midsummer and with other groups queuing up, was also very helpful to questions from participants. The visit to Nero's theatre was not much. We had to move in the confusion of splitters (with the inevitable street vendors) first and cars and mopeds that roam through the alleys that we walked after, up to the door of a "low" through which, in a grotesque way (for 2024), we went down to see a couple of walls of a few meters to go out into the courtyard of the houses above. I understand that the company that organizes the tour is not to blame, but the experience is not, however, the best and I believe that a minimum of lobbying between the different companies interested and moving millions of money, could have its weight.

ENGLISH The organization was messy. People had to wait too long to get in and it was not always clear what their logic was. You can only pay in cash, but that was fine by us. The experience itself was fantastic. Our guide explained everything in an engaging way, it was enough to understand, but not too much. We saw a lot of subway, so it didn't feel like our time wasted. If you have time to do it, I recommend you come here, it gives a new, fascinating view of Naples. ENGLISH The organisation was messy. Wonderful experience that I highly recommend but not to those who suffer from claustrophobia. The guide Roberto was very engaging between legends and reality and everything was surrounded by a lot of irony and kindness. For those who have difficulty entering the alleys or for various reasons would prefer not to do so, there is the possibility of taking an alternative route or waiting in the room for the group to return and then continuing the visit. It is advisable not to bring backpacks and bulky bags to avoid them obstructing the journey through the various tunnels. The duration of the visit is approximately one hour and thirty minutes.

Enchanting scenery that unfolds to the eyes of visitors, a secret place full of history and magic atmosphere. An emotional journey that conducts visitors in the new section of the underground of Naples. It is situated in Vico del Grottone 4, from to 150 mt. to Plebiscito Square. Until a few years ago it wasa veterinary laboratory, now is the entrance of the Bourbon Tunnel. A staircase with 8 ramps, 33 yards deep descending into the belly of Chiaia. The second entry is in Via Domenico Morelli,40, through the crosswalk of “Quick parking”.The Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of rebellion, he asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was uncompleted and, during the second World War, was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil. That’s way there are handwrite, folding beds, messages of wish and desolation of those who lived it and still maintains its memory. Along the tunnel thereare also the evidences, 530 meters, where visitors can discover the history of real life. Through the spacious streets, it’s easy reachable the network of tunnels and cisterns of seventeenth-century,large buildings, where worked the "pozzari", the only connoisseur of Naples underground. The show is stunning, but that's not finished. On Via Morelli appear statues dating back to fascist period and many cars and motorcycles, abandoned for years, freed from piles of rubbish, arranged and illuminated ad hoc for the route.Nothing is left to chance, even lighting, perfectly integrated with the path of the visitors.Since today everything is possible to visit. Five years ago the scenery was completely different.Rubbish, degradation, wastes of all kinds covered the reliquaries.

Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

  • Teatro di San Carlo Hotels
The Teatro di San Carlo was designed by the architects Giovanni Antonio Medrano and Angelo Carasale for the monarch since Charles wanted a new and larger theatre for Naples to replace the old and dilapidated Teatro San Bartolomeo of 1621. On 12 February 1816 the San Carlo was destroyed by fire. The Theatre was re-designed by the architect Antonio Niccolini and rebuilt within ten months on order of King Ferdinand IV. In 1845 there was additional refurbishment and, by 1854, the theatre's interior appearance changed to the now-traditional red and gold. Now carefully restored to its former splendour, the San Carlo is the oldest working theatre in Europe.
