    Woman Masters exhibit!
The temporary exhibition on “Woman Masters” is open at the time of this writing, and is worth the price of admission, even if you see nothing else of the permanent collection. Reservations are required for the special exhibit (and they do fill up). Recommend getting the 5€ audioguide to deepen the experience. Note that I do not speak Spanish, so perhaps some of the nuance is cultural or lost in translation. However, worth noting that not all of the language used in the English written and spoken descriptions aligns with what I would consider affirming. However, the collection itself is really excellent.

Truly A Rich, Diverse, and EXCELLENT Collection of European Art - Well Worth a Visit
It’s hard to improve on all the 5 ratings Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza received except to say I agree. And YES, the museo is less crowded and better layed out than the Prado, and because I can take photos of my favorite works, I have BETTER memories of the museum and collection. There is no need to buy an overpriced book of the collection, like you have to at the Prado, because you can decide which works of art are important to you and take a snapshot for memory and reflection. I really loved the overall variety of paintings covering some 800 years of European art. There was, surprisingly, a great and diverse collection of US American art. I’ve included photos of some of my favorite pieces. Thanks of a relaxing and enjoyable journey through such a memorable collection!!!!

A rich collection of artwork at the Thyssen
My wife and I visited the Thyssen Museum during a trip to Madrid this past March. I thought the Thyssen was just as good as the Prado. In fact, I enjoyed much of the artwork more in the Thyssen. Although Prado has the bigger reputation, I prefer Thyssen more if I had only one that I could attend.

    Don’t Miss This!
I love impressionist paintings, so with limited time in Madrid I decided on this museum rather than the Prado. I do not regret it. I had never heard of the Thyssen-Bornemiszma before planning this trip. It has a phenomenal Women Masters exhibit right now (think Cassatt, Kahlo) and a Picasso exhibit (I historically have had trouble understanding Picasso’s work, but this exhibit did the best job I have seen of explaining his pieces). And the regular collection is unreal! If you enjoy any of Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Pissarro, Sisley, Gaugin, Rodin, O’Keefe…there’s something here for you. And it was not overly crowded; you can actually enjoy the experience and see the art up close. Highly recommended.

AN ENJOYABLE WAY TO SPEND A FULL DAY!
We encountered one rainy day on our recent trip to Madrid, but it hardly affected us. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum was a close walk from our hotel. Once inside, we could not get over the quantity and variety of such art masterpieces, exploring new ones after literally turning every corner of this former grand palace! We wound up spending the entire rainy day meandering through the exhibits, including the special one showcasing women artists, breaking up our lovely time with a delicious lunch in the cafe.

    The best of the best
The museum has some of the best works and such a diverse collection at that, with works from Van Gogh, Picasso, Georgia O'Keefe, Max Weber, Dali, you name it. All well laid out and so much more accessible than the Prado given its smaller scale. The contemporary art shines through here. It is probably one of the best collections I've ever seen. A must visit and do take your time.

My favourite of Madrid’s ‘big three’ art museums!
I visit Madrid a couple of times a year for shortish breaks and usually always try to visit both the Thyssen and Reina Sofia museums. I only go to the Prado if there’s something I especially want to see as I find it somewhat overwhelming whereas the other ‘big 2’ are much more ‘manageable’ and have artworks more to my taste. I was lucky enough to see the temporary Lucien Freud ‘New Perspectives’ in June and on this recent visit the ‘Maestras’, ‘Picasso: The Sacred and the Profane’ and Jordy Kerwick (who I confess I’d never heard of, but what fun!) as well as revisiting much of the permanent collections. Staff are extremely helpful with directions, the shop is lovely (I always find it hard to resist buying something!) and I’ll definitely be back on my next visit in the summmer - will try to time it for temporary exhibitions that I’ll enjoy!

    Very nice museum
We visited the museum with the art pass, which allows for entry to all three art museums. We were there specifically for the Picasso exhibit and the Jordy Kerwick exhibit, which were easily found right next to each other. The museum's collection is very diverse, and it is worth the time to read about how it was accumulated prior to a visit.
We are glad you enjoyed your visit. To keep up to date with our activities, follow us at @museothyssen. The Art Walk pass includes the visit to the permanent collection of the three museums and some of the temporary exhibitions. It does not include the visit to the temporary exhibitions on the ground floor of the Thyssen Museum. It is recommended to check this information before purchase.

Great Museum with classical and modern art.
This is an amazing art museum, that ranges from classical art, to modern. At the time that I was there, they had an special Picaso gallery which was suepr good. We spend 3 hours in the museum and didn't have a chance to see it completely. So plan properly. If you go Monday afternoon, the museum is free. They also have a reasonable priced cafe. Download the audio guide before going so you can enjoy the museum even more.
Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed. Free access hours are Mondays from 12 to 16h. You can only visit the permanent collection and if there is the exhibition on floor -1, of TBA21, also that exhibition. Access is free and without ticket. .
