Hotels near Basílica de la Sagrada Familia

Basilica de la Sagrada Familia is a church devoted to the Holy Family. One of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works, the church is perhaps best known for still being under construction since 1882—with works funded purely by donations. Take a lift to the top of the towers for a panoramic view of the city and marvel at the ornate architecture. The nativity facade and crypt have also been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status. Skip the line with a pre-booked tour with tower access, or combine your visit with another of Gaudi's work, Parc Guell. – Tripadvisor

One of a kind architecture from Gaudí. Made a booking online in advance for entry plus the towers. I’d recommend booking early because we had wanted the guided tour along with the towers (it was only 4 euros more) but it was booked out. We went to the Passion Tower (the other option is the Nativity Tower) and we highly enjoyed going up and seeing the architecture close up/views of the city. Note that while you go up via elevator, you must go back down via the stairs. Go slowly as it’s a spiral staircase and you might get dizzy. Leave time in the beginning so that you can go through security (though when we went in on Sunday at 9:15am, it went fairly quickly). Download the app in advance for the Sagrada Família so that you can get the full background of each of the points of interest.

The Sagrada Família is one of Barcelona’s most iconic landmarks and an unfinished masterpiece by architect Antoni Gaudí. This extraordinary example of Catalan modernism combines art, faith and nature in a work that leaves you speechless. The basilica, begun in 1882, is still under construction, but even today it stands out for its imposing towers and facades rich in symbolism. The Nativity Façade, with its detailed sculptures, celebrates life and nature, while the Passion Façade evokes the suffering and sacrifice of Christ in a more austere style. The interior of the Sagrada Família is a unique experience: columns reminiscent of trees, stained glass windows that fill the space with light and a design that seems to bring heaven to earth. Gaudí was inspired by nature for every detail, creating an atmosphere of peace and spirituality. The visit can include access to the towers, from which you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city. With its blend of innovative engineering and artistic beauty, unfortunately despite having booked well in advance the entrance to the towers was fully booked for all the days of our holiday. I recommend buying tickets online because there are always a lot of people. The price of the single ticket is 25 euros, with tower 36, with the guide increases.

This is a must-see, because there is no other place like it on earth. We bought tickets in advance for 3:00 pm to go into the church and experience it, and then we had booked a 3:45 walking tour with our guide Jose. Jose gave us incredible details about the building, and it is worth the money to have a guided tour (earbuds and microphone included). I think we spent 3.5 hours at the church, enjoying the architecture, the light, the colours from the stained glass, and the general awesomeness of this space which has been being built since the end of the 19th century. Should be done in the next decade. Below the church is a museum space with samples of the building models, and also a very nice gift shop that was full of tasteful items. We were there in late November 2024, and across the street was a Christmas market. 10 out of 10 experience for anyone who appreciates architecture, light, beauty, and genius!

What a beautiful sight to behold in person! All 5 of us enjoyed our visit here, which lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes. We purchased our tickets online in advance and included the Tower Climb (Nativity Tower). We arrived 30 minutes before our designated Tower Climb time, and so started the audio guide tour for a bit, then did the tower climb (which is an elevator up - not stairs - and then stairs down), and then completed the audioguide tour. The audio guide tour was very good (remember to bring your own headphones to go with your phone, as the audio guide is played from your own phone). I didn't think the Tower Climb was particularly worth it, but it was nice to see some of the designs/carvings up close; even so, it took less than 10 minutes, was very crowded, and didn't provide particularly impressive views; also, the climb down was close quarters, and I think some people would struggle with it (if you have mobility issues). Both the outside and inside were a marvel to see!

Astonishing beauty and staggering views, an absolute MUST do in Barcelona! You have to buy a ticket in advance online only - you cannot buy a ticket there. Take headphones with you to listen to the audio guide -free download on the app. It’s noisy so you can’t hear it really without headphones. Literally breathtaking & hard to articulate - you have to go!!

Incredible experience! You can enter 15 minutes prior to the time on your ticket. As you enter, they scan you and your bag (like airport security). This was a good experience, quick, and I had no problems with my small crossbody bag. I opted for the guided tour option and then a trip up the passion tower. My tour guide was Lut - she was brilliant, very knowledgeable, engaging and her English was spectacular. She gave us plenty of time to admire and ask questions and the tour didn’t feel rushed. It took approximately just over an hour, and we were stood/walking throughout. You are given a headset which amplifies the guides voice through personal headphones - very useful! The tour guide doesn’t accompany you up the towers, there is an audio guide to download on the app to guide you through this. I recommend downloading the guide on the app when you have a strong wifi connection before going as mine hadn’t worked on hotel wifi and the data signal was too weak inside the cathedral. I still enjoyed the views despite no audio guide. You go up the tower in a lift, and then there are a couple of flights of stairs once in with plenty on view points within. The descent down the spiral staircase is a little bit daunting, it is tight and I recommend taking it slow as you don’t want to trip or get dizzy! There was a secure hand rail, but younger children may be too scared. Inside the Sagrada Familia is phenomenal, I can’t put into words how unbelievably beautiful it is. Despite it being busy, I still felt I saw everything I wanted to and didn’t feel overwhelmed with crowds. There are toilets and a vending machine selling drinks, however drinking isn’t permitted inside the Sagrada. You must take off your hat and cover your shoulders, and make sure your shorts/skirt/dress are not too short out of respect. There is a museum which is interesting (and air conditioned!) and also a gift shop.

Beautiful church, unlike any other on earth. The construction 🚧 is still ongoing but that just makes it special, we heard no noise due to construction but we did go on a Saturday. We got tickets 🎫 for 10:30 and we walked straight through security and into the church, no wait at all. The church is amazing in the sunlight with the stained glass. We booked the passion tower and it was worth it, the view lovely 🤩 and you see the towers from an interesting angle with views of the city. Although we booked the tower for 11:15 we waited 15mins in a queue for the elevator. But because the elevator only takes up 6-7 people at a time when your up there you don't have to contend with hordes of people. Note you do have to pre book the towers on the website and you have to walk down the stairs ✨️

We got there a couple minutes before our reservation and quickly breeze through security, it was extremely hot so we were glad we got there early in the morning. I recommend going before 10 AM because we did a second circle round of the cathedral at 10 and the amount of people had doubled. it was very cool if you like architecture. They have a little museum in the basement which we liked, although not air-conditioned so we ended up sitting in the theatre room for a bit to cool down and watched the history of it. The one negative was the hand dryer in the women’s washroom was an ear piercing volume. It was horrendous to stay in the bathroom more than like a minute due to the dryer.. other than that it was a very cool experience.

The construction process has progressed and it has become even more impressive than the last time I visited, and I can't wait for it to be completed. There were Japanese staff at the shop. It is recommended to reserve tickets for the morning hours. There is a baggage inspection at the entrance, but you can bring drinks. It takes time if you follow the app audio guide. It depends on the person, but I recommend that you reserve at least 45 minutes for the entrance and the elevator to the top. From the Tower of the Passion, you can see Montjuic Hill. From the Tower of the Nativity, you can see the front made by Gaudi. This time, I took a photo of the Tower of the Passion because I was observing the construction process. When getting on the elevator, you must leave your backpack in the refundable locker next to the elevator. If you don't have a coin (1 euro), you can ask a staff member to lend you one. There is no need to leave small bags. It takes about 15 minutes to use the elevator. On the way back, you go down a thrilling spiral staircase with 200 steps. People with bad legs can get off slowly, but they may feel the pressure of younger people getting off quickly behind them. However, there is space (wide enough for one person to stand) at equal intervals to the side so we recommend giving way to them there.

As there are so many reviews of the stunning beauty of the cathedral, this one is only to mention things that may help someone who like me and my husband, walk with sticks and also experience pain and discomfort when having to stand for any length of time. We were on a guided tour and I was actually shocked at how long the queues were to get in, given that unless you have prepaid, you can’t. The security man waves people with visible walking difficulties through to a short queue for the lift (for everyone there is a bag scanner), this was a great help. Tell your guide that you are doing this as they may need to prove you have a ticket if you are in a group and don't have your own to hand. We had audio equipment so we could hear our (excellent) guide clearly and as long as we kept an eye as to where he was going did not have to stick right by him and could walk about. He spent a lot of time standing still while explaining external features. But there is no opportunity to sit until the tour is finished and we had 10/15 minutes free time – that’s if you can find a seat – we did!). I have to say if you do not like crowds, having the audio blocks out the surrounding buzz and makes it relatively peaceful. We are so glad we went even though it was strenuous for us as words cannot describe the wonder of the architectural concepts.

This pedestrian-only street is a rite of passage for first-time travelers in Barcelona. Starting from Plaça de Catalunya, amble along the boulevard where you'll find food kiosks and spot famed attractions like the Gran Teatre del Liceu theater, the Palau de la Virreina Palace, and La Boquería market—the city’s famous marketplace. Entertainment is plenty too thanks to the human statues and caricature artists, amidst other wacky street performers. If you’re not planning to shop, enjoy a jug of sangria at any of the tapas bars and people-watch away. Besides joining city tours, Barcelona’s hop-on hop-off bus is another great way to get here. – Tripadvisor
