From the name of this block, one can already understand what kind of architecture can be found there - of course Gothic.)))) Relatively close together, somewhat gloomy walls of buildings adorn the auburn elements and mythical creatures. This is especially noticeable in the exterior of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia. In addition to this attraction, the Gothic Quarter contains the following: The Royal Palace is the former residence of the Counts of Barcelona and the Kings of Aragon, the Royal Square is a square with solid neoclassical construction (18th century), the King's Square is in existence since the 14th century, the Place of Saint James, the remains of the Roman Wall, the ruins of the Palace of Octavian Augustus, the Basilica of La Merce, the "Four Cats" is an art cabaret, El Call is a medieval Jewish quarter, Santa Maria del Pi is a Gothic church (14th century), New Square, San Felipe Neri Square. The block begins at Plaza Catalunya and extends from La Rambla to Via Laetana Avenue. The quarter is named for the surviving structures built in the Middle Ages, when Aragon was one of the most powerful powers on the Mediterranean. So, if you want to dive deep into the centuries - the history of Barcelona, then - welcome to the Gothic Quarter, where it is visually presented.

A must-see for the County City. Walking through its narrow streets and wondering at its amazing buildings is going back to medieval times. Highlights include the beautiful Cathedral and the buildings in Jaume Square, where the beautiful City Hall building is located. A walk to have a minimum of 2 hours of time.

It is the ancient heart of the city, consisting of a maze of alleys, streets, hidden squares, with churches and palaces. In this circuit certainly worth mentioning is the beautiful Cathedral, the oldest parts are certainly the Sant Iu gate and the main facade, worth a careful visit the main altar, the bell tower and the cloister of the fifteenth century. and the crypt of St. Eulalia, one of the patron saints of Barcelona. , with the part of the Pietat gives access to the cloister. Another must-see nearby is Plaza del Rei , the whole of the Palau Rejal Major monumental complex.

When I first started researching Barcelona, I couldn't decide what area we wanted to based in. A flight attendant, who had been to Barcelona many times, told me we had to stay in the Gothic Quarter....so we did and we loved the area. It has a charming, old world feel. The narrow cobblestone streets are full of people. it is a very walkable area; with many restaurants and shops. We took a free walking tour (Runner bean) of the gothic quarter, which I highly recommend. Some of the highlights were: Placa Reial, Placa del Pi, jewish quarter, Placa de Sant Jaume, Carrer del Bisbe Bridge, Barcelona cathedral, Placa de Sant Felip Neri, Placa Nova, roman temple of Augustus and the church of Santa Maria del Mar.

Going to the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) was part of one of our tours. Awesome place area to visit and walk through. You can feel and see the history throughout which our tour guide provided plenty of history of it. Small streets and walkways add to its charm as they open up into squares. The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is close to other historical sites and other tourist areas as well as its easy getting there with metro if needed. Plenty to see and shop and eat in surrounding area. My family and I walked all over the area easy to navigate and to enjoy everything that it provides. Like I mentioned it was part of one of our tours but no tour is needed as its a neighborhood you can easily just walk and enjoy without a tour guide and go at your own pace. We did that a few times as we visited the area plenty of times while there. Definitely a place to visit and see when in Barcelona and like pretty much anywhere in Barcelona I recommend.

It is always a pleasure to walk in this area. Streets, corners, squares of great atmosphere. Avoiding the streets more crowded with tourists and with fewer tourist places you will still be fine. The magnificent Cathedral! For me, however, the top is Born...

Whether you do a walking tour or just wander around, the Gothic Quartar is a must-do. Is it safe? Well, it is crowded, and it is in a big city, so you must use common sense. I've never had an issue and always just kept my wits about me.

This was our second trip to Barcelona, so we knew we wanted to stay in the Gothic Quarter. There is so much to see within easy walking distance. We saw Roman ruins, plenty of churches and great coffee shops and restaurants. Plenty to see and do. With the museums you get a chance to learn about Barcelona.

Basilica de la Sagrada Familia is a church devoted to the Holy Family. One of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works, the church is perhaps best known for still being under construction since 1882—with works funded purely by donations. Take a lift to the top of the towers for a panoramic view of the city and marvel at the ornate architecture. The nativity facade and crypt have also been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status. Skip the line with a pre-booked tour with tower access, or combine your visit with another of Gaudi's work, Parc Guell. – Tripadvisor

This pedestrian-only street is a rite of passage for first-time travelers in Barcelona. Starting from Plaça de Catalunya, amble along the boulevard where you'll find food kiosks and spot famed attractions like the Gran Teatre del Liceu theater, the Palau de la Virreina Palace, and La Boquería market—the city’s famous marketplace. Entertainment is plenty too thanks to the human statues and caricature artists, amidst other wacky street performers. If you’re not planning to shop, enjoy a jug of sangria at any of the tapas bars and people-watch away. Besides joining city tours, Barcelona’s hop-on hop-off bus is another great way to get here. – Tripadvisor
