- Happy Hillwalker10 contributionsPeaceful and interestingWhen my partner first suggested going I wasn't convinced but it really is an incredible place. We spent a peaceful morning walking around and reading all the graves and tombstones. The monuments are just wow and loved the vast view of the city from the top of the hill!Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- Bri MOklahoma City, Oklahoma23 contributionsVast area to explore! Very interestingWe ended up missing the tour for another activity we chose. It probably would have been nice to know more information about the area, but we also didn't feel too much like our experience was lacking to be able to just explore around! We spent about an hour beginning to end, but I would imagine one could spend hours exploring everything! We had intended to return, but didn't end up with enough time before traveling to another cityVisited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 29 October 2023
- Scooter CGlasgow, United Kingdom135 contributionsI love this place! When anyone comes to visit, I take them here if it isn’t bucketing rain. It’s just so, so interesting (especially to North Americans) and the history is fab. I’m a photographer - and it’s heaven. The best views of Glasgow are also from here. So many truly interesting and astonishing structures! It’s huge, so prepare for good walking up and down hills. What is really special is the Jewish part of the cemetery and its history as it’s a bit apart from the main cemetery. Be certain to go through the Glasgow Cathedral, too, at the entrance. These two sights are both gems. Absolutely visit!Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 16 March 2024

Both guides very knowledgeable & interesting. Tour is free but pleqse give generous donation at the end of the tour.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 May 2024
- Gayle M2 contributionsMagnificentWhat a beautiful place with a lot of interesting facts! We had a private tour with the well informed and lovely guide Claire! Claire was so knowledgable and was able to answer any question we had! We only managed to scratch the surface, still a lot more for us to see and hear about! Will definitely be visiting again!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 May 2024
- Lararobbo5 contributionsWelcome to the Necropolis, the city of the deadWe were welcomed into the necropolis, the ‘city of the dead’ by Annette from Friends of the Necropolis who brought ‘her’ to life through her wonderful knowledge and storytelling charisma. This is a historic feast for everyone and anyone, shining a light of the magnificent city of Glasgow and will stay with me forever. A highlight was hearing the story of the Buchanan Sisters. The views of the city from within the necropolis are breathtaking too. Highly recommended!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 June 2024
- Sarah G22 contributionsNot to be missed. Best tour ever!We went on a private tour with Ruth Johnston of The Friends of Glasgow Necropolis. The Friends are all volunteers who do tours in exchange for a small donation. We had a fantastic, memorable afternoon. Ruth literally “wrote the book” on the Necropolis. She is quite the storyteller. We learned so much about the City, its history/people/legends. The views are stunning. Our tour was only supposed to take an hour and she spent at least two hours with us. We even went inside one of the old “off-limits” mausoleums! I can’t believe that this tour is not Glasgow’s top attraction.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 June 2024
- Molly P50 contributionsCarve out the time, and Train for the hikeWorth the time, so make sure you carve out lots of it. The history and reverence of the Necropolis rivals that of the Cathedral, and is located conveniently behind it. Definitely a hike and meant for those who can handle elevation and rough terrain. Beautiful memorials and such interesting history available.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 July 2024
- Amy Marie BorgUnited Kingdom106 contributionsA Peaceful and Historic PlaceThe Glasgow Necropolis is a beautifully serene and respectful place. Walking among the Victorian monuments and graves, you can feel the history and significance of those buried here. The views of the city and cathedral are stunning, making it a thoughtful and memorable visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2024
