- Bill G20 contributionsKelvingrove the Aladdin’s cave in Glasgow CityWhat a gem of a gallery in beautiful surroundings !! The building’s architecture itself is wondrous, and we spent around two hours there before moving on to the equally impressive Glasgow University (10-15 minute walk though “squirrel” park), but one could easily spend a whole day there. There are scluptures, life-sized characters and animals, hundreds of paintings ranging from local Scottish painters to impressionists, cubists and every other ist !! There are Picassos, Guagin, Cezanne, Matisse, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Rodins and many, many others. There is also a very extensive history of Scotland through the ages with numerous examples of tartans, armour and weaponry, and clothing worn. There are also plentiful audio and visual accompaniments to embellish the experience. There are plentiful buses (Argyll Street), or a 30 minute walk from the city. Optional if the weather is fine to stroll across Kelvingrove Park and marvel at the friendliness of the multitudes of grey squirrels, before taking in the sumptuous architecture of Glasgow University. To G4057FCbillg, thank you for visiting the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit to us (and the nearby University). Thank you too for leaving us an excellent 5-star rating. - Neil G7 contributionsFantastic art in a great buildingAmazing building with fantastic art. I would recommend the Scottish room but there is something for everyone. Highly recommended. Afterwards take the ten minute stroll to the University of Glasgow main building for a great double bill.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 February 2024
- Amie CStaffordshire, United Kingdom75 contributionsA great free family museumThis museum is fab and kept my two children entertained for a few hours. It has a great selection of things to see and learn about including animals, the history or Scotland and artwork. At 1pm there was an organ recital in the main hall where we timed it just right as we sat and had coffee and cake and watched the performance. The children loved it and we could have spent a bit longer there if time had allowed. Plenty of parking available too. A great find.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 February 2024
- stevehH5458WRLondon, United Kingdom130 contributionsA must see when in Glasgow.Great art and a fabulous setting - the building is very grand. Varied selection with enough "big names" to keep the interest levels up. Great selection of Scottish art also (both painting and the inevitable Charles Rennie Mackintosh). A must see when in Glasgow for sure.To stevehH5458WR, thank you very much for visiting Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. - Neil SPrestwick, United Kingdom43 contributionsA must visitBreathtaking, wonderful exhibits, a must of a visit. The cafe is surprisingly good priced and very nice. The only downer was the sour face serving at the cafe at the entrance. Needs to try and smile. And the young school groups, they are mostly not interested and they are screaming and having a free for all running daft.To neiljawsfan, thank you for visiting the museum and leaving us a great five star review. - Considered ReviewNorwich, United Kingdom1,951 contributionsExtraordinarily good museum and gallery - so much to see!Utterly fantastic museum and gallery - and it's free entry! (Although donations encouraged). Art, science, concepts, fashion, etc etc. A brilliantly presented eclectic mix. A bit of a trek on foot from town, but follow Sauchiehall Street westwards and you will come across it about half an hour later. Worthwhile. Extremely worthwhile. To ConsideredReview, thank you for taking the time to leave us an excellent 5-star review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit to the museum and had a fantastic time. - MilngavieguyGlasgow, United Kingdom84 contributionsNever gets boring!!I've always loved going to the Art Galleries, you can pop in when you have an hour to kill, and get lost in time, just gazing at the different arts around this stunning building, I'll never get bored of seeing all the floating faces, or the dinosaurs, if your lurking around at 1pm, you will be lucky enough to hear the organ getting played!! The Salvador Dalí is a stunning piece of art, it stands in a room, alone, where you can sit, and just stare at the beauty of big JC on the cross. If you visit Glasgow, you must visit this museum. As a weegie, I've loved coming here for the past 44yrs!!!To milngavieguy1979, thank you for leaving us a great review. We're happy to see you are a recurring visitor, and we hope you choose to continue to visit us for another 44+ years!Written 16 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 8 March 2024

- Liege-Bastogne-LiegeZurich, Switzerland446 contributionseclectic collection in a wonderful settingThis is a very special gallery & museum. The collection is huge, eclectic, ranging from natural history, armour to Scottish and European art. It has a room dedicated to the Glasgow School of early 20th century artists and furniture designers. The buiding is spectacular too and worth a visit in its own right. The Central Hall - see picture, is inspiring in itself. This is a half-day must-see in Glasgow. To Liege-Bastogne-Liege, thank you for visiting the museum and leaving us a wonderful 5-star review. - Kerrie QBrandon, Vermont32 contributionsMehI really wanted to love this museum however the lack of proper lighting made it a struggle to enjoy. I realize the high ceilings are a challenge but ….. This is a massive collection, hodgepodge of items from natural history to fine art. It was easy to navigate and had some unusual items. The organ recital was impressive and a bit eery when traversing the galleries. The restaurant is overpriced and mediocre, something to skip. A rainy day place to visit and free as are most of the national museums. To Kerrie Q, thank you for taking the time to visit Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery and for leaving us a review. We're sorry to hear about your issues with the lighting in the museum. Unfortunately, due to conservation requirements we are often limited in the amount of light we can have on the objects. This is in order to minimise long-term light-related damage to the object. We thank you again for your visit, and we hope you choose to visit us again in the future.Written 25 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 16 March 2024
