Hotels near Big Ben

Better known as Big Ben (it's actually the name of the Great Bell!), this iconic clock tower which stands at the Houses of Parliament is officially called the Elizabeth Tower, named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee. When the Elizabeth Tower is open for tours, you can climb up the tower and admire the clock and bell up close. But fret not, you can still learn about its history and admire its ornate golden facade on a tour of London or the Houses of Parliament.

    Big Ben
We had a walk to Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) whilst visiting London. It has recently been refurbished, so much so that it looks brand new! It was quite busy around Big Ben and we had to watch out that we weren't pushed into the road.

    AMAZING TOWER!!
AMAZING TOWER!! well as you can see I am from Newton Abbot, Devon. And I can see a different tower from my bedroom window 🪟. It is called St. Leonard’s tower. It is small but bigger than a house. Big Ben is 50000 x bigger (Well being Sarcastic! 😂) Really it is 3 x bigger. Many thanks 🙏

    High Up Big Ben
I booked my tickets for Big Ben, which were booked two months in advance. On the day, we went through airport style security. We then met our guide. Our guide for the event explained what we were going to experience. He said whoever books the 11am tour is usually the smartest (ego boost), because one got to hear 12 bongs. I had no idea about this because I only booked the 11am slot because I didn’t fancy traipsing to Westminster early in the morning. I paid £25 each for my tickets, but if you’re a U.K. National, you could ask your MP (Member of Parliament) for tickets. They’re like gold dust, but you never know. I had no hope in hell to get my MP to give me tickets. I’m still waiting for her to get back to me about my Westminster Palace tickets. If you are coming to London and you know your travel itinerary, make sure you add this one to your list of things to do. If you check the following website, you’ll know what’s available and when.

    Big Ben Tour
My wife and I went on the Big Ben Tour this week. To book tickets you need to go onto their web site. They release tickets at 10am on the second Wednesday of each month. They make it very clear to need to be reasonably fit. To the top of the tower is 330 steps, although it is taken in a couple of stages. Guide was very good. We went on the 16.00 tour so were in the room with all the clock mechanism at 16.40 in time to see and hear the 16.45 chimes. We then went up to the clock tower. You stand within a couple of meters of Big Ben. They give you ear protectors. We saw it chime at 17.00. Coming down you go behind the clock faces. If you have seen the 39 steps you will know what I am talking about. And then back down. In total an hour and a half. Fantastic. If you wish you can then change your visitor pass for one that allows you into the public viewing areas of commons / Lords

    Recommend the tour
To tour this iconic London and UNESCO world heritage site you have to prebook tickets that are released about a month before. You do have to go through airport style security check and the tours leave on time. So give yourself plenty of time getting there. There are toilet facilities and a place to get a drink before the tour starts and also time to enjoy Westminster Hall which is the oldest building on the site and the witness to a lot of important moments in history. No cameras, phones or recording equipment is allowed and lockers are provided at the start of the tour. A reasonable amount of physical fitness is needed as there are a lot of stairs but its taken at a steady pace and they do have a few points on the way up where you stop and the guide gives a talk and on my tour there was a broad mix of ages and no one seemed to struggle. You get to see so much on this tour the mechanism, the actual big ben bell (which you get to see strike the hour) and for me the highlight when you walk behind the clock faces. Our guide Melissa was fantastic she kept the tour on schedule without making anyone feel rushed and her interesting presenting style got the information across in a clear way. At the end you can swop your lanyard for one which enables you to go and see the public gallery in the house of commons which is a unique experience in itself.

Whoever hate this clock or bad month it, should burn in hell. I love this Clock, iconic and great to look at. One of my favourite landmarks. And managed to have a tour inside and one most memorable, even had worst experince with high security, know more about the clock during the tour.

    Big Ben Tour
Visited The Palace of Westminster to take part in a Big Ben Tour. Dave the tour guide was amazing. He was so informative without any falter of the history, dates, facts, figures and story of Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower. As we climbed the internal 334 steps of the tower, the safety of the party was considered and stoppages built into the tour for 'recovery periods' helped make the ascent more manageable. Dave would tell the stories of the tower and bell at these break points with animation, humour, knowledge and gusto. It made it all very captivating. At the belfry, there you see the glorious bells that can be heard across London. But you also get to see the views out, and view the gold restored orbs around the decorated edge of the tower. As you descend the tower stopping off to walk around the inside of the four clock faces they are incredible to see, so big, very surreal. And the way the faces are now lit at night compared to times past. How historical and modern resources have come together. The working mechanism is awesome, I adored looking at all the cogs and levers and watching the movement of such a magnificent piece of engineering. Brilliant experience.
