Hotels near Museum in the Park

The Museum in the Park is set in the beautiful grounds of Stratford Park in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Situated in a Grade II listed 17th Century wool merchant’s house; our collection tells the fascinating story of the Stroud District’s rich and diverse history. With over 4,000 objects on display, including dinosaur bones, historical paintings and even one of the world’s first lawnmowers, there is something to spark the interest of all of our visitors! In addition to the main displays in the mansion house, we have our modern extension which houses a small gift shop and café area, alongside a modern, purpose-built art gallery showing a varied programme of exhibitions. Behind this is Stroud’s ‘secret garden’ - a contemporary Walled Garden that will amaze and may well cause you to say 'wow'!

Warm welcome, beautiful garden, fascinating stories in the museum
We were given a wonderful warm welcome by Sarah, who told us all about the story behind the creation of the lovely walled garden. Together we identified the beautiful white stemmed bramble, Rubus cockburnianus Rosaceae. Fascinating displays relating to local history in the Mansion House.
Thank you for taking the time to provide a lovely review. We will make sure we feed this back to Sarah, thank you. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

A gem, a place of interest for both young and old
What a gem! We stopped to make a break in driving as my husband had read some good reviews of the place, but it exceeded our expectations. A nice park, but most importantly a wonderful museum with very informative displays on a vast variety of subjects. The information and material are collated with great knowledge and love, and presented in a well-written, intelligent way that is accessible and interesting for both young and old. I'm 62 and I found something new for me too. All in a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I wish the people from the newly refurbished Salisbury museum in Dorset would come to Stroud for a learning course in how to present material.
Thank you for taking the time to write an informative review following your visit. We are of course delighted as a team that we have exceeded expectations and that you enjoyed our informative displays. It is indeed a lovely setting being located in the park! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

    Excellent!
Lovely little gem. Visited over Easter, and the kids loved the Easter trail and the prize at the end. They were very engaged, lots of different things to see. Bonus that it was free. Lovely location by the park, free car park nearby. There isn’t a proper cafe, but drinks and snacks are available to have in. We look forward to coming back.
Thank you ever so much for taking the time to write a review of your visit to the Museum in the Park. We're pleased you enjoyed your visit and found our activities engaging. It is indeed a lovely location! We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

    A gem!
Beautifully curated, creatively presented & interesting insight into the history of the area. The Walled Garden was gorgeous, bees busy around all the flowers. Everyone was friendly & enthusiastic & the sense of community spirit was strong.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. A lovely description of what we strive for at the museum and walled garden. We are pleased you had a wonderful visit and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

A peaceful learning place in Stroud
I’ve been to this museum several times, and absolutely love it. It’s small, but filled with lots of interesting exhibits. And it all feels very unique and local, not slick and corporate. Exactly the type of places I’m drawn to. The walled garden, and a walk through Stratford Park are not to be missed
Thank you for taking the time to provide a lovely review of the museum and our setting in Stratford Park. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

    A true local gem
This is the most wonderful little Museum sharing and promoting the history and culture of Stroud over the years. It is very child friendly but genuinely engaging for all ages. It may be small but some of the exhibits are impressive; they range from Jurassic fossils (I really enjoyed the most recent addition from Kings Stanley), to Roman carvings, to Victorian bonnets. It is a real trip down memory lane and it really makes one appreciate the local area for all it's contributions and beauty. It is so well curated and presented and a real asset to our town. May it prosper for many generations to come. It is free to visit (donations welcome) and easy to access, short walk from the car park nearby. Courteous staff, warm welcome and intriguing exhibitions await. Highly recommend.
Thank you ever so much for writing such a lovely and informative review. We take great pride in presenting and sharing the history of the Stroud district and I'm pleased you have found some of the exhibits impressive. I will certainly ensure the rest of the museum team have seen your comments, it is always heart warming to receive these. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
