    Year round destination, local tips
I am a local who visits the gardens a few times a week all year round. Currently (April 2024 the day before the eclipse) the greenhouses are closed to investigate the structure following a broken window which occurred in January. No reopening date has been shared. The outdoor gardens are open but not at their peak for another few weeks. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. Folks, the gardens are outdoors in Montreal. As I write this in April there is snow on the ground. We get our first frost in early October. If you'd like to see greenery and flowers and fish outdoors you need to plan... peak time is late May to mid September. Personally, l've never had a disappointing visit no matter how many times l go, but l really miss the greenhouses right now! Edit: If you love birds and flowering trees, don’t leave town. Pick up a copy of Birds of Canada 2nd ed by Montreal’s Dr David M. Bird and head to the gardens late April through May. I see dozens of species every day, more than anywhere else in Quebec. Today: mallard, wood duck, kestral, robin, Canada goose, red winged blackbird, woodpeckers (2), cardinal etc etc. Head to the centre of the gardens in the morning with or without binoculars. If you love Fall, go in October. Also, the photos of the large sculptures are from a special travelling exhibit from years ago. I think it was called Mosaics. They are no longer there.

    Wonderful day
Beautiful massive place. Lots to explore, kids love it. There is small restaurant in the spot, perfect to grab a cold drink or a quick sandwich. The Chinese and Japanese gardens are amazing.

    Beautiful gardens! Highly recommend!
We greatly enjoyed the beautiful gardens and will visit again if we have the opportunity to come to Montreal again. Roses were in full bloom during our visit—so many varieties of roses and so wonderfully fragrant! Also had a nice lunch from the cafe—ate outside. Highly recommend!

Bathe in the heavenly scents and scenery
A must see. You'll be transported to a real Chinese garden. You'll experience the most varieties of rose you've ever seen, and the scents are heavenly. And there is more that I simply didn't have enough time to see in one visit.

    Gorgeous!
The botanical garden in Montreal was a very gorgeous afternoon spent walking around and delighting our senses. There was quite a bit of construction in the main entrance and what seemed to be around the water garden - so we missed out on being able to be fully blown away. The Japanese and Chinese Gardens are quite impressive with bonsai trees over 200 years old and beautiful water features. The amenities are okay - a small cafe at the beginning of the walk, with restrooms scattered about. We enjoyed this as a family, I would recommend for children who can handle a good 1-3 mile walk. Would love to see this again in spring and fall when full blooms are sure to dazzle.

    Magnificent gardens
The Montréal Botanical Garden is very impressive. While all the areas are beautiful, the Chinese and Japanese gardens were ravishing. I also found the alpine and toxic gardens quite interesting. The greenhouses are currently closed, so there's a bit of a discount for admission. It was a bit crowded on a Sunday afternoon, so it may be best to arrive early or on a weekday. Even so, this is an attraction not to be missed.

    Beautiful and Well Maintained
This is a huge site! Only the outdoor gardens were open to the public when we visited but that was enough. There are many themed gardens. The rose garden is spectacular (and at this time of year, many of the roses had already flowered). The Chinese and Japanese gardens were also very interesting. The Indigenous peoples garden was not so much a garden in the sense we think; it was more of a cultural exposition. It was well done. Beautiful and interesting plant every where you go. Lots of bilingual signage to explain as you walk along. Plan for at least 2 hours. Most of the trails are easily walkable and mostly wheelchair friendly.

    Beautiful gardens
These were beautiful gardens spread out over a large site. The Chinese garden, which boasts a large lake in the middle, was particularly attractive. You can easily spend 2 to 3 hours here because of the sheer size of the site. The gardens are right next to the Biodome so a visit here could be combined with a visit to that attraction to make a day of it.

    Incredible Experience
The gardens are absolutely beautiful. They were very well maintained, and the flowers were stunning. It can take about 3-4 hours to walk through it because it is such a massive complex. I did it in 3 hours, and it was well worth it. The gardens were honestly breathtaking. Make sure to see the Chinese and Japanese gardens, the Shrub Garden, and the gardens south of the Shrub garden. I don't know what they are called but they were the best part of the visit (included a garden on medicinal plants, herbs, grains, and the most vibrant flowers). Go as soon as they open. I went at 9am, and it was not crowded. Around 11am/12pm, it gets busy. Also, it gets really hot and there isn't much shade. Definitely wear a hat and bring water with you.

    A Must See in Montreal
Stunning. Maybe the best botanical gardens we have ever seen. 100% worth a trip. The Chinese Garden, the Perennials, and the Innovation Garden were simply beautiful. For reference, I'm not a big fan of gardens. I'm usually dragged to them. But this was extraordinary.
