- Stefan OvertonColchester, United Kingdom229 contributionsHUGE Zoo but think again going off seasonEnormous Zoo. We went in January and honestly walking up to the entrance, the zoo looked derelict. No life whatsoever. A couple of the areas of the Zoo were out of bounds and they said this was because of being off season. When it came to the outdoor enclosures, there really wasn’t much life around at all. It was only when we went to the indoor areas we saw a lot more animals. We still saw: Tigers, Lions, Giraffe, Hippos, Penguins, Snakes, Gorillas, Baboons, Giant Tortoise, Goats, Polar Bears, Wolves, Alligators so this was still good but the whole zoo was lifeless. Only found one food area with washrooms in the whole zoo, all food stalls have been shut so I’d say to maybe take a couple of snacks before going. I do genuinely think if I went in the Summer months this would have been incredible so that’s why I’m not marking down too harshly,Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 February 2024
- Dave LQueensbury, New York45 contributionsFeels like a lot of money for what you get!I love zoos and I really wanted to love this zoo but there was some things that just really dampened my enthusiasm. The first was the fact that you are charged for parking as well as admission. This zoo is not located right in the heart of the city so it's not like space was at a premium. Going along with this theme, it seemed like anything in the zoo was overpriced (food, drinks, etc.). Now, I know that we were not going during the heart of the tourist season so I did not expect everything to be open (they have some kind of water attraction and that was obviously closed) but most of the vendors were not open. Additionally, many of the exhibits did not have animals in them and it seemed like there was an awful lot of walking where you did not see anything. Several of the animals were in small cages and it seemed like zoos that you saw in pictures a century ago! At times, it was also confusing as to where you could find certain areas of the zoo. There are doing a great deal of construction so that could be why things weren't as clear as they could be and some of the animals were not in the exhibits but the zoo still charged full price for a mediocre experience. I'm not comparing this zoo to my favorites (Bronx Zoo and San Diego Zoo) but compared to the Pittsburgh Zoo (where I visited last summer), it was not in the same league! The only reason I did not rate this zoo lower was because they did have some very nice displays but again, they seemed to be far and few between. Most of the time when I've left a zoo, I feel myself thinking that the next time I'm in the area, I will be back. Sadly, this is not one of those cases! It's a real shame too as it was a beautiful day to tour (mid-60s and sunny).Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 April 2024
- EnglishDragonScunthorpe, United Kingdom865 contributionsNice, but needs a split season cost.Nice zoo but they need to work out a bit of a difference between off season and summer. We went and it was empty, a lot of attractions were either closed or not about and it was a bit of a quiet walk through the park. That said its still a really nice zoo.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 April 2024
- AINagpur District, India4 contributions1 day trip to Toronto ZooThe zoo is good, not the best zoo. There are different areas to explore like Americas, Canada, Australia, Africa, all have different animals from that region. The Africa section was the best, lot of open areas and animals to see. Other areas had less, the Indo area was not available fully as maintenance and expansion going on. Polar bear was the best where it was swimming and entertaining the visitors. To reach Canada section it requires lot of walking. It will take an entire day to cover full zoo completely. Tips : 1. Go on a sunny/ cloudy day. 2. The zoo opens at 9 am , Plan your trip as early as possible to cover all areas. 3. Vegetarian options are very less, You can also carry home made food as much as you want. 4. Carry Caps, goggles, sun screen, good quality cameras if you want to click pictures. 5. Buses are very convenient, goes till the zooVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 June 2024
- helen1218Ottawa, Canada164 contributionsGreat timeHad a great time with our 2 kiddos (ages 7 & under). It’s a bit pricey, especially with a number of animals unavailable due to births & construction (eg. red pandas & snow leopards). However, still a lot of animals to see in a wide variety of habitats. The baby rhino & polar bears swimming were a couple of our favourites. The free maps are very accurate & helpful. I would recommend bringing: 1.) ( you can also rent at the entrance) a wagon / stroller or some mechanism to transport Littles when their legs get tired. 2.) water bottles (there are a number of places to refill). 3.) bathing suit &/or towel for the fantastic splash pad. 4.) packing a lunch & snacks (everything is expensive & there a ton of spots to eat food brought from home). Pro-tips: A.- if you have a presto card you save 20% on admission (per card). If you have CAA you save 10% overall. B.- $30 gets a family unlimited access for the day to “zoomobile” (a motorized train that takes you between zones); you can see animals that are inaccessible otherwise (we passed through the wild horse herd & saw the 2 foals up close), saves time & energy, & the guides provide intersting info on the animals you are viewing. A definite repeat!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 July 2024
- Manda B281 contributionsMust do in Toronto! This was a fantastic experience for our family! The zoo is large and has a wide variety of animals- we easily could have spent 2 days here. There is also a splash park my children loved. The only downside for me was that they do not take Discover cards at all.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 July 2024
- hopeanimalsLexington, Kentucky161 contributionsAdmission dealsIf you are a member of another zoo (for me, it is the Columbus Ohio Zoo) check to see if you can get any admission deals! There is a big part under construction but that doesn't take away from most of the experience. If it's a warm day I'd recommend taking the tram around, I wish my group had! Otherwise, a good experience and if I'm back in the area I would visit again!Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 July 2024
- Célian FLyon, France16 contributionsOne of the Best Things to Do in Toronto CityPass.Very friendly visit, with an impressive number of diverse and varied animals being European, we had never had the opportunity to see some animals such as polar bear, Arctic wolves, etc... The park is very large and has plenty of picnic air. Having visited the zoo via the Toronto CityPass I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of this activityVisited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 July 2024
- Flyer308109219233 contributionsLots Of Walking!Spent an entire day at the Zoo and was completey exhausted at the end! It is a LOT of walking on a hot day, I was grateful for the misting stations. Some animals were not viewable but there were still plenty of other great animals to see. For some reason there were a lot of turtles in almost every area lol. I would probably do the Zoomobile next time, it's too bad they charge extra for it though. If you are pressed for time or not up to as much walking I would recommend skipping the Canadian Domain. It is a STEEP walk down to that area and it's a hard trek back up. There should almost be warning signs so people are aware, it's difficult with a stroller or wagon or for people not in great shape. I was surprised at how much alcohol was for sale, I'd rather have more misting stations and less alcohol. Overall an expensive but great day!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 August 2024
- A-L-G787Sault Ste. Marie, Canada126 contributionsNew experience as new momI’ve visited the Toronto Zoo many times before but this is my first time visiting as a mother with a young child (3months old). The zoo has an AIR CONDITIONED room with rockers and change tables for families to change diapers and to feed babies. It was very much appreciated. It’s in the Africa area of the zoo so kinda in the middle but it would have been nice to have another one near the Tundra area too. You can bring your own stroller in as well as any formula/milk as well. Otherwise zoo as always, never disappoints. It was hot when we went so many of the animals were not out for display. The new orangutan exhibit is awesome! Volunteers are friendly and provide info about the animals. We will definitely be back!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2024
