The Shibuya Crossing is a must-see pedestrian crossing in Tokyo, photographed from all angles. A human tide passes through it alternately with cars, whether diagonally or horizontally. Do not hesitate to go day or night, the effect will not be the same! You can observe it for free from many places, such as Shibuya Station tonight, shops nearby or for a fee from buildings like ShibuyaSky for example.

Stepping into Shibuya Crossing is like stepping into the pulse of Tokyo. When the lights turn red for cars, hundreds (sometimes thousands) of pedestrians flood the intersection from all directions. It’s a mesmerizing sight to see people moving in perfect synchronization, crossing in every direction, yet it’s incredibly organized despite the chaos. It is a must see sight for sure. Also the shops nearby are very nice options to buy sourveniers and gifts from Japan.

This is very busy but it's unnecessarily filled with tourists stopping to take pics and video. Surprisingly the traffic moves smooth regardless of the crowd. No cars are honking (not allowed). No cars get "stuck" in the middle of the intersection. It's overcrowded b/c the Shibuya train station is also at that intersection and it was under constructions in Oct 2024.

If you plan to head out to Shibuya Crossing (Scramble), try to head out early as you can see how the pedestrian traffic just builds within half an hour. What a difference it made as we arrived around 8:45a.m. on a Sunday morning last month and there around 20-30 people crossing at a time at each of the intersections but within another half hour- hour 9:30a.m., there were over 75-100 people crossing at a time. The five intersections are absolutely a scene to watch from above from any building that offers such a viewpoint. We were fortunate to locate a seat at the Starbucks Tsutaya's 2nd floor and enjoy our drinks at the window to see all the non-stop pedestrian crossing at Shibuya Crossing during the change of lights. Even with such a crowd of people, it was very orderly and people crossed the street without any traffic jam issues. Definitely a show in itself in one of the world's busiest pedestrian crossing intersection. You need to come here to see for yourself!

We went to the area during New Year's Eve only to find out that the local government asked people not to go to the area and celebrations were not happening. In preparation for the celebration Hachiko Square with the Hachiko statue was closed but the crossing itself did not disappoint. Pure madness and worth doing at least once in your life. The number of people and lit of signs is worth checking out in the evening but it is very busy so avoid this place if you do not like crowds. Exits to the northwest of Shibuya station have quick access to the crossing and we took exit 8 to see Hachiko Square. We spent a couple of hours in the area just walking around sunset and found a nice Japanese BBQ restaurant for dinner. Last time we came we spent more time in the area, did a bit more shopping and there are a lot of shops nearby to check out.

This is a “must see” for anyone planning a visit to Tokyo, the most populated city in the world. Nicknamed “The Scramble”, being part of it is indeed a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Thousands of people cross Shibuya every day. All cars are stopped at the same time and then pedestrians have 80 seconds to cross in any direction. It is mesmerizing to watch the orderly flow of 1000 to 3000 people cross on average at the same time. Even more enticing is to be part of the crossing crowd. The area reminded me of Times Square in New York City with its giant video screens and neon advertisements. A must see and do in Tokyo.

After being in Tokyo and then coming back home to metro NYC, the thing that is most surprising about Tokyo is how quiet it is. No honking, yelling, loud conversations or people taking speakerphone videocalls in public. No one is bumping into you and there is an expected politeness. Nowhere did my wife and I sense this more than Shibuya Crossing. I took a video of us crossing the street and everyone was able to cross simultaneously in all directions without bumping. And while crossing my wife and I had a conversation in normal indoor speaking voices without issue. I watch that video in amazement because I think any other place in the world I've been that is not possible. Simply amazing.

It's like nothing I've ever seen before. the energy and chaos of it all is incredible. The moment the light turns green, it’s like a wave of people moves in every direction, and you’re just part of the action. The view from the surrounding buildings is even cooler!

Coming to the surface from Shibuya Station was like I imagined, but more crowded. It was a big open space! We saw immediately the scramble crossing and, although it wasn't part of out plan to visit the place, we had to cross it. There were many people and many tourists too. We waited for the green light crossed. In that moment most of the tourists crossed with their phones recording (just like today's concerts) and other just stoped in the middle of the road to take group photos, even installing tripods.

This place is an absolute must-see! It felt like walking into a movie scene, but the real-life experience was even better. We spent nearly the entire day walking around, watching crowds cross the massive Shibuya intersections. The vibrant energy of the city and the endless flow of people made it an experience we thoroughly enjoyed.

  • Tokyo Camii & Turkish Culture Center Hotels
Tokyo Camii, also known as Tokyo Mosque, is a mosque with an adjoining Turkish culture center located in the Ōyama-chō district of Shibuya ward in Tokyo, Japan. It is the largest mosque in Japan. The mosque was originally built along with an adjoining school on May 12, 1938 by Bashkir and Tatar immigrants from Russia who had come to Japan after the October Revolution. It was made under the direction of Abdürreşid İbrahim, the first Imam of the mosque, and Abdülhay Kurban Ali. In 1986, the mosque had to be demolished because of severe structural damage. Under the direction and support of Diyanet İşleri Başkanliği a new building was begun in 1998. The architect for the building was Muharrem Hilmi Senalp. The ornamentation was based on Ottoman religious architecture. Around 70 Turkish craftsmen performed the finishing details, and a considerable quantity of marble was imported from Turkey. The construction was completed in 2000. Tokyo Camii is 734 square meters in area. Its main dome is 23 meters tall and is supported by six pillars, while the adjacent minaret is 41 tall.
