The origins of Benicarló can be found in the Iberian settlements of Puig de la Nau and De la Tossa, whose golden age was during the 5th and 4th centuries BC. Puig de la Nau is a small mountain which rises to the north of the municipality of Benicarló, next to the bed of the Aiguaoliva Gully which serves as a natural border between Vinaròs and Benicarló. On the eastern side of the mountain, at an altitude of around 95-100 metres above sea level, lie the remains of an ancient settlement which presumably formed the origin of the population of the coastal plains where the current town of Benicarló stands. The Church of Sant Pere (St. Peter), known by everyone as the Chapel of Crist de la Mar, stands beside the Port. Traditionally, the Crist de la Mar has always been deeply worshipped by the people of Benicarló. Indeed, legend tells us that in 1650 a felucca arrived on the beaches of Benicarló from which César Cataldo disembarked, carrying with him an image of Christ on the Cross. His arrival was deemed to be prodigal and the miracles performed by the sainted image even more so.

On Sant Joaquim Street, the luxurious stately mansion of the Miquel i Polo family. The main entrance is in the middle of the façade; the lintel is made from stone over which the coat of arms of Miquel, Lluís and Polo is set. Standout features of the interior include the kitchen and the ceramics from the Comte d’Aranda d’Alcora factory (said to be the oldest in the Valencian Community).

This is the beach that connects Benicarló and Peníscola. It is a long coastal fringe of sand that has barely been affected by mass tourism where you can enjoy the sun and water sports in peace. After many years of abandonment, in 1995 work started on renovating the former Convent of Sant Francesc (St. Francis), which culminated on 25 June 2005 with the inauguration of the Benicarló Museum, more familiarly known as the Mucbe. Today, the Mucbe is the town's cultural centre and offers a wide and attractive programme of cultural events (discussions, exhibitions, concerts, book launches, etc.).

Monument dedicated to the local farmers, this is a foutain with a statue of a couple of farmers, dressed with a typical clothes of the camp and a basket of artichokes.
