FIA Closed March 14 Through April 6 As the spread of COVID-19 continues worldwide, the Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) has been assessing and investigating all options regarding our venues and operations. We have made the decision to close all public spaces at the FIA and the FIA Art School effective tomorrow, Saturday, March 14. All public programs, special and/or private events, and meetings between March 14 and April 5 are postponed or canceled at this time. Although this was a difficult decision, the health and safety of our guests, students, volunteers, and staff is our first priority. The FIA recognizes its part helping minimize the spread of the virus and its impact on our community and national health systems. We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we move through this unprecedented time together. Applewood is the historic Flint, Mich., estate of automotive pioneer Charles Stewart Mott, open seasonally from May–October. In addition to the home and attached greenhouse, the 34-acre estate includes an apple orchard with 29 heirloom varieties, extensive gardens, a gatehouse, barn, and coop. Applewood Estate is a Michigan Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. C.S. Mott built Applewood in 1916 as a family home and gentleman’s farm. Though the site is no longer operated as a farm and does not house animals, today it remains open to the public as a historic site, community resource, place of beauty and tranquility, and a tribute to the legacy of C.S. Mott. The enduring legacy of C.S. and Ruth Mott is their extraordinary commitment to civic participation, and we work to embody this spirit in our work at Applewood.

Sloan Museum of Discovery is now open with four all-new hands-on primary gallery spaces. Located in the beautiful Cultural Center campus in Flint, Michigan, this re-imagined museum is 107,000 square feet featuring the Hagerman Street Early Childhood Learning Center; Discovery Hall science gallery; the History Gallery; and the Durant Gallery historic vehicle showroom. The Exhibition Hall will opening in July 2023 for traveling exhibits. Fun for kids and adults!

Longway Planetarium is Michigan’s largest planetarium, and presents educational and entertaining shows exploring astronomy and science topics every day of the week. Longway Planetarium also offers a wide variety of hands-on science field trips, Scout programs, summer camps, and public events throughout the year. New shows debut three times per year.

For nearly 40 years, the Flint Children's Museum has enjoyed supporting the development of every child through hands on learning and experiences. The Flint Children's Museum remains dedicated in continuing to serve in this mission to as many children and families as possible.
