- dellangelo54Turin, Italy17,800 contributionsLots of stepsCastle Hill extends from the left bank of the Danube to the area of the castle and Fisherman's Bastion. Since our hotel was located right under the Fisherman's Bastion, we walked down it twice using the various staircases. Some roads can also be traveled by car almost under the Bastion, while the upper part is limited to traffic.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 4 June 2024
- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota7,941 contributionsPanoramic Views of the City and Beautiful to View from the DanubeCastle Hill (Varhegy) is a must-see experience when visiting Budapest. The Castle District that sits atop of the hill overlooking Budapest contains the reconstructed Buda Castle (formerly the Royal Palace), 13th century Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion which was built in 1896 as part of the Millenium Celebration. The panoramic views that are offered are spectacular. As spectacular is the view of Castle Hill from the river or along the Danube embankment on the Pest side. It is particularly beautiful at night when everything is illuminated. Although much of Castle Hill was destroyed during WWII, it has been beautifully restored.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 August 2024
- Tiberiu_BaranyiTimisoara, Romania18,803 contributionsA fast walk on the Castle Hill of Buda - Feb 2024.The Castle Hill of Buda a UNESCO world heritage site , a place well worth exploring where the visitor shall find find a lost landmarks of the city - to mention a few: - Matthias Church. - Fishermen Bastion - National Galleries Only to mention a few, palaces, historical building, statues on public display, museums, pubs, walking areas, restaurants , hotels , etc. etc. It is truly a spot - a few square km's actually - that is well worth discovering. Now during this visit in February 2024 we had little time to explore the area of the Castle Hill - only a few hours - but for sure we will return ( either ways we are coming to Budapest 4-5 times an year) and than we'll have more time at hand to actually explore the Castle hill, that is becoming more and more interesting due to the huge reconstruction program that was initiated by the government and the entire hill in the process of rebuilding - with some of the buildings in very advance state of restauration. When in Budapest allocate at least 2 days to explore the Castle Hill - and even than there will be many places that you will be leaving of from your to see list. Overall an excellent place, amongst the many excellent places in Budapest , place it high on your to see list when travelling to Budapest.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 November 2024
- HocicoFrankfurt, Germany25,780 contributionsVery nice area with a number of attractionsThe Castle Hill in Budapest - you can easily spend a whole day there, as much as there is to visit. Very many old magnificent buildings, some beautiful green spaces. Of course, during the peak tourist season, many tourists, so it is of course more fun to visit the Burgberg during the week during the off-season. Also very nice: to be here at night, because then there is almost nothing going on.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 23 November 2024

- District VII / Jewish Quarter HotelsDistrict VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.Read more
- District I / Buda HotelsThe historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.Read more

- Margaret Island HotelsFor Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.Read more
