Red Light District (De Wallen) Hotels
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the cityβs most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture β not to mention Amsterdamβs own Chinatown, Europeβs largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.

- Bertie1224Northamptonshire, United Kingdom1,446 contributionsMixed emotionsThe area is buzzing at nights. All varieties of people including families with children. Not sure what I think about young females being stared at through a large glass window in 2024. The area is filled with bars and restaurants but you cannot remove the reason why it is here.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 March 2024
- Kerri M8 contributionsGo!Everyone needs to experience this at least once! Sunset (about 9pm in April) is when the party really gets going. If you get there early you can grab a seat at a cafe wand watch the party unfold around you. Similar to a Marti Gras atmosphere but unless you pay you're not seeing nudity.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 22 April 2024
- Sheena PAthabasca, Canada29 contributionsLearn a little about the Red Light District!Really appreciated the inside facts on the red light district in Amsterdam. The museum is well laid out, albeit a little small, but I think that added to the atmosphere! You will leave with a little more knowledge than you arrived!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 June 2024
- Thomas VOakland, California19,134 contributionsBars, Pot and Snack ShopsSo many people find this area fascinating. Me not so much. The girls are moving to another part of town, so you will find just a small number of the picture windows with working girls behind them. Instead you will find lots of bars, coffee houses with pot, and snack shops, all set up for wandering tipsy tourists. Very honky tonk and not very pretty.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 June 2024
- spud0018Mississauga, Canada863 contributionsA Must Do in AmsterdamAmsterdam is known for it's red light district so it's just something you have to do once when travelling to Amsterdam. Very crowded area with smell of MJ everywhere. Not a nice part of town. Stroll through, look around and leave quickly.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 June 2024
- Crofton MAirlie Beach, Australia2,071 contributionsWe were too earlyWe actually may have been too early but have an early plane to catch tomorrow. there were a few girls in the windows but business going on when we went back down one alley and the various windows had changed. - MaurizioFlorence, Italy20 contributionsLow cost flightI'm torn. On the one hand I would like to evaluate the neighborhood, on the other βexperienceβ. Since I find the latter very interesting, I will enjoy reviewing it using deeply metaphorical language. Letβs start with the simple aspect: in the evening the neighborhood is really beautiful, quaint, unique, but a little disturbing. After all, it is unthinkable for us to expose the product in this way, so if you are not used to it after an initial note of amazement you will start to feel uncomfortable. There is a varied assortment, of a higher quality than I understood when I read about it on the Internet. Once you have chosen the shop, and it is not that simple, you just need to approach to talk to the innkeeper, who will immediately tell you if you are welcome or not. In my case the merchant was not very kind, on the other hand she was very busy offering me the packages on offer. Cheap Flights work: with 100β¬ you arrive at your destination, but if you want hand luggage you pay, if you want a chocolate bar you pay, if you want legroom you pay, and so on. Unlike the flight, however, you can also make an upgrade during construction. In my case the seller was quick, she was not very interested in the experience with the buyer. On the other hand, local NAS-proof. I went out with two piottes less and happy just to have lived the experience, but I would never do it again.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 July 2024
- lithlith931 contributionsRed Light DistrictWhile in Amsterdam, take a scroll through the red light district. While it was full of tourists and cafes there were few red lights and girls in the windows as we walked through this area. If I were on a family visit, I probably would avoid this particular street/canal with children, as there are much nicer and less crowded areas to walk in Amsterdam.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 July 2024
- Peter S5 contributionsRed Light District tour AmsterdamExcellent guide. Very knowledgeable about the area, the history and the present time. Pace of walking around the area good with time allowed for checking out side alleys to see working girls.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 August 2024
