Barrio Gòtico (Barri Gòtic) Hotels

With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighbourhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.

    Don't miss the Gothic Quarter!
So much fun- Great food and sights. The history is everywhere. See the Cathedral and the churches. Felt very safe. Alot of tourists, but the crowds were not overwhelming. We stayed in the Gothic quarter and would certainly stay in that area again .

    Get Lost & Enjoy
My wife and I happened to come down here twice during our stay. It's close to the La Rambla area. Looking at the buildings & architectural detail was an incredible experience. The narrow streets that took you here and there. The Barcelona Basilica is located in this area as well as the Del Mar church. Just take time to enjoy checking out various shops / bars / restaurants int he area. Allow yourself to just get lost and pick a direction

    Unique and beautiful!
We stayed right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and we would do it again! The tight and winding streets gave us an authentic experience and allowed us to step back into time. The quarter is littered with many shops and cafes, all within steps of each other. Overall, the area felt safe throughout the day and even after dark. The quarter not only has many tourist attractions within walking distance including La Rambla and the Barcelona Cathedral, but it also has access to public transport that makes it easy to see everything you want! One thing to be aware of, due to the maze of medieval streets, taxis can not make it through all the streets so you may have to walk to meet up with a taxi depending on where you are looking to meet them. Other than that, love this area of the city!!!

    Great tour, great value
Our guide, Adriano, did a great job. He was easy to understand and, because the area was relatively quiet and uncrowded and our group was small enough, he could just use his voice (instead of the cheap audio system). We especially appreciated some of his historical insights, particularly about Picasso's history with the 4 Cats restaurant. The tour was at a good pace and we appreciated the variety of what Adriano covered--history, architecture, art, food, culture/language, tourism . . . all around terrific activity and a great value. Highly recommend!

    Great for people watching
We enjoy wandering the narrow the maze of pedestrian streets which are lined with interesting shops, and open onto plazas that always have a few cafes. The plazas often were home to street performers. They ranged from entertaining, to in one case, scary!

    Barri Gotic
Once a Roman city with high walls and fortified towers, the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona dates back to over 2,150 years ago, and is one of the most talked about districts in the city. The Gothic Quarter was part of our 3-hour orientation of the city that was facilitated by a local guide. I really enjoyed the architecture, the history of the quarter, and the narrow medieval streets that make being in the Gothic Quarter very special.

    Loved the narrow laneways
Gothic Quarter is really good to walk around, the maze of narrow laneways seems endless with many shops, cafe and bars at every turn. Very close to La Rambla and the cathedral both excellent areas to explore as well. Take your time walking around all the little laneways to laneways you get to see some amazing and unique buildings and shops.

    Must Do!
Visiting the Gothic Quarter was the highlight of our trip to Barcelona- much better than Sagrada Familia. The tight streets and unique shops just begged to be explored / discovered. See it earlier in the day as it gets hot and humid since the wind is blocked by the buildings.

So much history, do a tour
There is so much history in the Gothic Quarter, don't just walk around, get a tour guide and let them bring the history to life. We took two different tours one as a food tour and one just a walking history tour and learned so much about this area. Don't miss it!

    The Oldest Neighborhood
This is the very old part of the city. With all of the attention and money that modern tourism have brought to BCN, this area has been cleaned up and is now safe. Narrow streets full of charm and history. The big cathedral is here as well as city hall. Lots of tapas restaurants.

Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
