Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal) Hotels

The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.

    Beautiful, heavily tourist area
A beautiful part of the city, I only gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because we went to Quebec City first and this just can’t compare to that. However, it’s a fun area to explore, particularly if you like shopping and art galleries. Plenty of restaurants and places to grab a drink, also lots of souvenir shops and tourist kitsch. Partially pedestrian-only which is helpful. Note that it’s entirely cobblestone and part is a steep hill so be ready to navigate that. We spent a few hours wandering around, checking out the Old Port and took a boat tour. A must do area, but recommend checking out other great (and less touristy) areas of the city as well.

Put this on your bucket list
Very walkable and interesting area. Many historic buildings lovely streets and squares. Many good cafes and restaurants. Try a beer and meal watching the people from the outdoor tables in Place Jacques-Cartier. We used Pub John Michael on the corner beneath Nelson good food drinks and service plus nearby tuneful busker to entertain us

Gorgeous historic area mixed with a slightly tacky tourist vibe.
The Old Port area around the streets is really charming. But there is a slightly side-show feel the closer you get to the water. If you like the architecture then stay on the main area, but for kids the waterfront is probably entertaining. It is also the site for the ferry to Ile St Helene, where the Biosphere is located. It's worth it to take the ferry one way to the island then take the Metro back. As a tourist it wasn't intuitive to know the metro goes there.

    Beautiful City, Rich History
Old Montreal was the perfect destination for our conference. It is a place where history and modernity coexist, offering something for everyone. I was impressed by the diversity and quality of the food options, ranging from traditional French bistros to trendy cafes and ethnic restaurants. I also appreciated the walkability of the area, which allowed me to discover its many attractions and landmarks, such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, the Place d’Armes and the Bonsecours Market. One of my favorite activities was running along the port, where I could enjoy the fresh air and the beautiful views. Old Montreal is a gem that I would love to visit again!

    Love Old Montreal.
So much to see and do. Loads of shops and restaurants. Several small town squares to sit and relax. During the Jazz Festival they had live music in the square across from the NOTRE Dame Basilica. Every hour a different musician would perform. All free. Down by the river there are vendors and food trucks or you can stroll by the river to watch the boats. We found the people to be very friendly.

    Beautiful walk , great meal.
We took a short ferry trip across the St. Lawrence River to Old Montreal and it was a pleasant ride taking in the views. Once there we entered the old port area and made our way around the streets. We visited the Notre-Dame Basilica and checked out the historic area in and around Old Montreal. We thoroughly enjoyed our time taking in the history of these old buildings. We found a really great place to eat in Crêperie Chez Suzette, we sat at a table near an open window and enjoyed an amazing meal and drinks. Then it was time to catch our ferry back.

    A must see in Montreal
Stay on streets parallel to Waterfront, one or two blocks, no more. Go around sunset, not too late , not too early. Many shops and restaurants. We choose rooftop one, was excellent. Lots of people watching. The buildings are great and part of old History. Don't forget there are areas underground also!

    Little Paris
Best part of Montreal, especially if you are in search of the Parisienne vibes. Loved all the sidewalk cafés, vendors, artists, and musicians. Great during the day, but comes alive in the evening (at least on the weekend).

    Great weekend trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Vieux Montreal. The port is full of engaging activities for tourists that we enjoyed: Boat tour, ferris wheel, cobblestone streets with shoppes and patios etc. We rented bikes through bixi which was easy to do and a nice way to see the waterfront and travel more quickly from one end of the area to another. Lots of great food options and views of the charming city. A great place to visit for 2 days.

  • Quartier des Spectacles Hotels
The bar-none entertainment district for music and arts, Quartier des Spectacles is an interactive playground that delights the senses. It totals over 30 performance halls, with the vibrant Place des Festivals at its heart. The outdoor event space features glowing towers, glass edifices, and granite-lined bike paths, and hosts annual festivals, concerts, and comedy nights. The cinema, theatres, and exhibition centres are entwined with external art projects, exemplified at Montreal's Contemporary Art Museum and appearing along every walkway of the Promenade des Artistes in the form of sculpture and public works, from digitally-enhanced swingsets to glowing fountains. Design, performance, and alternative music come together here, a stone's throw from the lively Latin Quarter along Rue Saint-Denis, the quintessential after-party spot for dinner and a drink following a day of jazz, poetry and play.

  • Quartier International Hotels
Designed to connect and beautify unused space, today the Quartier International is like a transversal piece of modern art. The distinctive design flair is most apparent at its focal point, the Palais des Congres, a convention centre and retail space with a multi-coloured glass exterior and an equally bold interior motif. Outdoors too, the Quartier is friendly towards public art exhibits along its stylish, plotted city squares, with extra-wide sidewalks meant to encourage long strolls and shaded benches available for absorbing the atmosphere. Fresh air and promenades characterise the area, from the foliage of Victoria Square to the fountain of Place Jean-Paul Riopelle, while the restaurants along Rue Saint-Antonie Ouest and Metro stops modeled in the Parisian style give off European glamour.
