Detailed Reviews
Family run, friendly staff & excellent value. I had a single room at €79 per night including breakfast. Free WiFi, free parking. Nice breakfast buffet. The rooms are spacious enough & that part of the village is very quite. The place must have been revamped looking at comments before 2019. A very good restaurant is attached. I can recommend.

This is the second time I've stayed at the Hotel Esser and I've been very impressed both times. The hotel is basic but clean and very well maintained, with free wifi and a mini bar in each room (well each of the rooms I've stayed in!). However, the jewel of this hotel has to be the restaurant and friendly staff. The food in the restaurant is of a very high standard and the hotel staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. Add to this a delightful courtyard for summer dining and I couldn't think of a better place to spend a couple of days whilst travelling.

The room was average, nothing bad. Nice shower. The rooms don't have AC, that's okay as long as there's a fan or its cool enough outside. No fans so I had to open the window. The problem is that there are 4 rooms facing their Biergarten . Cigar and cigarette smoke rose into our window and made the room stink. We closed the window then it was so hot and stuffy in there we couldn't sleep. The other issue was that they had a crowd in the Biergarten until late. It was so noisy, even with the window shut, we couldn't sleep. I was told by the waitress that she was sorry but there was nothing she could do and the crowds would leave at midnight. I had to wake up at 6:30 so I got maybe 5 hrs of sleep.
Staff was great. I'd recommend staying, just make sure you dont face the Biergarten on the weekend.

Rooms are good enough. Had a room with a touch of smoke from cigarettes.
The restaurant is excellent both for lunch and dinner. Breakfast accordingly what to expect. Staff are very attentive and cool to have around.
Free wifi.

Family run Hotel in a rural area. Not a great deal of competition in the area, so a busy little place.
Service was very nice and friendly. Found the rooms in serious need of renovation though. Very 1980's. The bed linens were worn and scratchy and the towels of a similar age and should be replaced. The shower had a curtain which I hate. It was clean enough, but really dont like them. No aircon in the rooms, so opened windows wide as it was warm weather. Woke early (6am) both days due to traffic noise with window open. I'd still take a road facing room though, as the ones on the back look onto the beer garden and that was packed both nights with live music and people smoking. So far better to be away from that.
Breakfast was an average buffet with nothing cooked to order. Poor scrambled eggs that had been there awhile.

Visiting friends in nearby Wegburg and only stayed one night. Initial impressions were good. Friendly reception, if very little spoken / written English. Room / bathroom clean and tidy. Good view of our car parked in the hotel car park behind the hotel, overlooking the beer garden. Great evening meal in the restaurant - good service (translated menu provided on iPad), super food; both quality and quantity and very reasonably priced. Breakfast also was excellent!
Only downside of our stay was having gone to bed at 10:00 (earlyish, but we were tired having travelled all day from London) and just as our heads hit the pillows a party (possibly wedding) started up in the function room below us. Very loud mixture of disco, ballads and German umpah, umpah! In fairness it only went on until about 11:15 / 11:30 but was enough to disturb our initial sleep; although we slept soundly thereafter. Just wasn't expected as the hotel is fairly remote and was initially so very quite. Perhaps it's just what happens on a Saturday night.
Anyway, was just a noteworthy blip on what was otherwise a decent one night stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst in the area for a family wedding and were very impressed with both the facilities on offer and the welcoming nature of the staff - especially to our young daughter.
We had a two story family room which was perfect and I'd recommend this for anyone travelling in a party of 3 or more.
The BBQ in the beer garden is amazing and I just wish I had perhaps eaten more!

Team work at its best, we spent six days at Hotel Esser I can only concur with the previous reviews. This is a very well-run family hotel all staff are friendly and efficient. The Restaurant and Bier Garden is strongly frequented by the local community, testimony to the quality of food and service. An excellent six days thanks to Team Esser

First visited for one night to attend a Bundesliga match of Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bus stop 200 m away, from there with line 017 in about 15 minutes to Borussiapark, top connection.
Friendly reception in the hotel, room functionally furnished, bathroom at most ok.
Free on-site parking in sufficient numbers.
Conclusion: I would book again to attend a match of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
