I've travelled the world and lived in SE Asia for more than 3 years, so was disappointed in what this place had to offer. Granted there was not much to choose from, so you get what you get. The location is fabulous and the accommodations are pretty good and the food was better than most. Unfortunately they market themselves as...

What an amazing experience which completely exceeded our expectations. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming - they couldn't do enough to make us feel comfortable. The facilities were all in working order, spotlessly clean and really well maintained. Food was beautiful. The day tours were unique and incredibly fun - we saw the heart of Brunei Borneo in the...

There are many places to stay within Sumbiling Eco Village. There are individual rooms in lodge areas, there is a tent village (see pics), or there are more permanent tents right over the river. I stayed in the tent village because all the other options were booked. It was fine and comfortable and I had no issues with bugs, but...

Was there for 4 days 3 night and it was out of this ultra-urban family comfort zone. Did a night jungle walk, day hikings, canopy walk, waterfall dipping and simply cool dips in different parts of Temburung river. Not forgetting successful fishing outcomes even though we were only using rotan rods, strings and worms. Friendly for family with young kids...

The Sumbiling Eco-Village is an eco-tour operation which adheres very closely with how an eco-tour should be – benefitting the local community, maintaining a close and healthy relationship with nature and possessing a strong and promising business aspect. We visited the location as a university field trip and was not disappointed. After departing from the Kianggeh Jetty at 8.00 AM,...

Met up with our tour guide in the jetty and took a 45min boat ride to Temburong. We hopped on a mini bus in Temburong to go to the SEV resort. We had to wait quite a while for the bus because there was some miscommunication between the driver and the tour guides. When in the resort, we settled into...

Upon arrival at the Kianggeh Jetty in Bandar Seri Begawan, we were met with Riza and she introduced our tour guide for the day - Kenny, a very friendly, enthusiastic and helpful guide. We were then ushered to a 45-60mins boat ride and then into a bus ride of approx. 20-30mins to the Sumbiling Eco Village. The eco village wa...

The boat trips were perfect, the jungle is cool, the people are nice! But the canopy is not so interesting. After climbing ladders a lot, the canopy walk is pretty short and you cannot see really much. Yeah, treetops. After this we went to the waterfall and this was really nice. Had a swim and some fishes biting the sht...

Had no idea what to expect before setting out on the 1 day rainforest trek, but was blown away by the adventure! Highlighted by the fact you take a couple of speedboats through river and forest to get to the canopy walk, only 2 people are allowed on the canopy at a time, meaning you get a great, 350m high...

Great place, great food! Loved the stopover and the tour organized by Borneo Guide in BSB. Fun group mates, highly recommend the tour! Day trip is good if you don't have much time, but the stay overnight is more relaxed I am sure.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sumbiling Eco Village is a nature lodge situated in the interior of the Temburong District, home to some of the best preserved rainforests in Borneo. Due to our location, we are within reach of the popular Ulu Temburong National Park as well as other well-preserved rainforest areas, yet just 5 mins walk to the main road, 25 mins drive from Bangar (Temburong's main town), and around 2 hours by boat and drive from the Brunei International Airport. A rustic stay awaits you, as our lodge is surrounded by shady trees and new growth forests, and is located right on the banks of an upstream stretch of the Temburong River, with rocky rapids, and clear water depending on the rainfall. We try our best to keep structures to a minimum, with huts built from bamboo as well as reused and new wood being the main theme. On a typical day, while away the afternoons on cosy hammocks under shady trees beside the river, and take time to finish that intriguing novel you've never quite managed to finish. When the heat gets to you, the cooling waters of the river await, though if a mere cool dip doesn't do it, try a downstream float in a rubber tube, or try your hand at a traditional bamboo raft. Then as the sun sets, tune in to the symphony of the night, with the sounds of insects, frogs and other wildlife never too far away. This is the place to rest, relax and have some simple outdoors fun, especially if you have been worn out on the road for the last few weeks or months. For those who want more and whose budgets permit, we also conduct optional excursions, such as a night walking tour, or a daytrip either to the Ulu Temburong National Park or the Rainforest Discovery trek into the nearby rainforest, a hands-on see, smell, taste and feel educational trek for those who are interested in the numerous benefits of the rainforest to us. Despite the back-to-basics approach and our proximity to the rainforest, we provide a reasonably comfortable stay, with bedding in both rooms and tents, properly built-up bathrooms, with sitting toilets and even walled outdoor showers. Fans are found in the rooms as well as in the main hall. The bathrooms, rooms and main hall are lit-up at night, and there is no early lights out policy. Power points to charge electronics are available on request. We have a small resource corner, with maps, brochures, and books on various interests. ... more   less
