The 1st room we were put in for 2 days had a broken shower knob, broken toilet seat, an outlet not working, a light bulb out, no frying pan, and then the kitchen sink blew up gushing water everywhere. The 2nd room was much better. Staff is nice, but the resort is run down and not up to standards. Even the gym and spa restroom are pathetic, dirty, and totally unacceptable.
We walked into this “Beach” Resort that had no beach, had rotten wood everywhere, had black mold everywhere, smelled terrible and generally looked like the place should be condemned! We immediately cancelled our reservation, even though it meant we lost our points!! We left and moved into another “beach” resort that had everything you could ask for!
Very roomy and location and view was very beautiful. However furniture was dated and some appliances needed repair. In searching for an item we dropped on bedroom floor we found socks and all kinds of trash left under the beds. The cabinetry in baths and kitchen is deteriorating. Staff was very kind and did their best to help. My opinion - this resort needs care and upgrades.
The staff is amazing !! The bartender at the pool bar was awesome. The beach is very private which we loved not a lot of room for laying out but we didn't care. When we checked in I was not really impressed but by the end of the stay I was in love with the place. The price is more than reasonable. The rooms are large and extremely clean. All I can say if you want a reasonably priced place that is clean with the friendliest staff on the Island this is the place. I have stayed at 3 other places in St Maarten in 2021 and this was not the fanciest but it was my favorite !!!
the staff are amazing. fun activities. room and resort are very very adequate, our room had everything we needed and it was cleaned daily. there is no real beach at the resort, even though there is waterfront, but can walk to one. the resort was hit hard by hurricane Irma 5 years ago and they have done a super job of bouncing back. they are still working on the comeback, but we had a wonderful time. there are nice shops for food, restaurants, and clothing within walking distance.
Great view of the water from the balcony, could sit out there all day. Not much of a beach but the pool was delightful. Onsite food, bar and convenience store. The Monday night welcome party included music and treats. All of the staff were friendly and attentive.
I don’t want to be too hard on this place, they are obviously recovering from past storms & Covid, and appear to have limited income. However, there were many things that they could repair cheaply with one or two maintenance people. The rooms were very nice when the place was new, large, with marble bathrooms & tile floors. They are still nice, the furniture is new, the mattress was extra firm, but maintenance is way behind on the whole property. There was not enough light to read at night unless you sit right by a lamp. They did bring bigger bulbs our last day but the bedroom & sitting area was still dim. The kitchen area is well lit as is the bathroom. The kitchen is well appointed but the new refrigerator in our room is too large for the space provided so it prevents the only exit door from opening all the way, a hazard for older people. Two overhead fans make the good air conditioning all that much better. The elevators were out of service several times. One was down for days leaving only one elevator for staff & guests. A walk up six flights of outside stairs on a hot humid day is not fun. There are no emergency exit signs on the doors leading to the stairs in most of the foyers. All the room, supply & exit doors look alike so customers have no clue. I always look for exists upon arrival and had a long look to figure it out. Balcony railing in our sixth-floor room was movable, it was not going to fall but I really prefer a secure railing. The railing down the stairs to the beach was loose. The steel handrail to get out of the pool was broken, only one end was still secure. When we were visiting the beach dropped off into the surf line six feet from the end of a dismal covered staircase. No real beach to lay on, you must go elsewhere to find beach chairs and a reasonable beach. The beach does come & go, but it is unpredictable, that is not uncommon in St. Maarten. There are great beaches close by, but not here. Also, you have to walk through a labyrinth of run-down villas to get to the “beach”, and it is not marked. Our room number was 362. In most places that would be the third floor, not here. Here it meant we were in column 3, on the sixth-floor, room 2. There are three columns in this hotel numbered 3,1 and 2. If people get off the elevator and see room 342 they might think they were on the right floor and look for their room, but here that is the fourth floor. None of this is insurmountable but they don’t give you a sheet of instructions for this or any other quirky things here. They did not brief us on any of the many things we needed to know and there was no guide in the room, not even a TV listing. The staff does not appear to have had any “frontline staff” training. The housecleaning staff was very nice and friendly, they did a good job. This is on the Dutch side of the island but it is distinctly French in operation. When we first arrived, we pulled into the circular driveway, arriving from the Dutch side. As we went inside to check-in a woman spoke to me harshly and condescendingly saying we entered the wrong way. There are no signs, no arrows on the ground, nothing. The driveway is wide enough for two-way traffic. The difference is if you come from the French side of the island there is a big overhead sign “Sapphire Beach Resort”. If you come from the Dutch side, no sign at all. Make of that what you will. Our maid was very nice and efficient. The pool was great and often we had it to ourselves. The tiny beach never had anyone on it that we saw. The underground parking was fine. The bar was good and both bartenders we saw were personable and made good food & drinks although the menu was extremely limited, and it was the only on-site place to eat. We only stayed here because I had waited too long to reserve our regular resort this year. We won’t stay here again. I spent twenty years on our regional tourism advisory board, I know a bit about hotels. There are so many nicer places to stay for the same price.…
Always a pleasure visiting SXM for business and staying at the Sapphire BEach Club. Love the view from the hotel room overlooking the sea and the beautiful sunsets at evening. Just so majestic. Helpful and friendly staff. Easy transportation services on site.
My family and I went back for a staycation last June and it was a short yet a memorable experience for my children. The simple yet peaceful ambiance always attracts me to come back at the Resort. Staff were hospitable and helpful. Kimara at the Front Desk was very helpful and made sure everything is okay. Housekeeping were nice as well and made us comfortable during our stay. Main pool was not crowded compared with other Resorts so my kids really enjoyed it. Ramona at the Bar was very pleasant and hard working; making sure that she accommodated everybody especially when she had a group at the time we booked. There were 2 staff at that time for the morning shift but they were able to manage it well. The Resort has a mini-supermarket which is very convenient. No need to come out as basic items are there. The Spa lady was very friendly ... better try her massage. It will really relax you. I saw a Hair Salon which is beside the fitness center but I was not able to try it. Over-all , our staycation was worth it. We will surely come back again.…
Great friendly atmosphere and quiet for the family. Stayed in one of the villas for 5 days with personal pool which my daughter loves and enjoyed the rest and relaxation with the family. Great staff and hotel management whom ensured that our stay was memorable Charles Sydney
