Makunudu is a truly special place. We had a wonderful 8 days where we enjoyed being in contact with nature. Observing the local water hens, Makanas, lizzards, crabs, fruit eating bats and the currently nesting Terns, is so grounding and so comical at times to watch too. Having the chance to look into the ocean in close by coral reefs is an unforgetable experience. We never had the change to be so closed to turtles, mantas, nursing sharks and beautiful and unusual colorful fishes. Sayful, KD, Ricardo and everyone at the water sport center made the experiences memorable. I dont remember the names of everyone at the front desk but all were very helpful and polite, Su, the nurse, always smiling and radiating positivity. Subbu was very welcoming, always up for a chat when passing the front desk. The people at the bar and our kind and warm waiter, Anwar, have contributed to make our stay very pleasant. We admired all of them, many who have been there for a number of years dedicated to customers. I cannot speak highly enough of all of them. The island is beautiful, rustic, unpretentious, clean, rooms large with very comfortable bed. Bit tired bathrooms but all kept clean and visited by the cleaning staff 2 times a day ! and the Spa ! beautiful place with very skillful staff. We had wonderful massages. The food is pretty good and varied. Bearing in mind that you are in a small island with no fancy supermarkets in the vicinity , the chef did manage to put together decent and well presented food. Their BBQ are great and tasty and so is the Maldivian food night once a week. We simply loved everything and everyone ....our mind is still there and so is our soul. This place will remain in our memories forever... if only was closer and more affordable we would be there very often. Love to all at Makunudu from Az and Maria

We watch the news about travellers around the country trying to get on holiday. "Such horror stories" they can't reach their airline or agent when things go wrong. For our holidays to the Maldives we book through Angelfish Travel. They are totally professional, are available 24-7. Any changes to the rules ,flights etc. whilst we are away they text e-mail or phone the resort. We booked to return to Makunudu in 2020 but because of the pandemic it was not possible. Angelfish were in touch on a regular basis to guide us through our options and also liased with the resort. We finally arrived at Makunudu in early May 2022. Flying from Manchester with Emirates to Dubai then to Male then a speedboat to Makunudu.A long journey but such an adventure. We received such a warm welcome to this little gem of an island It's so beautiful and peaceful . It really is no news no shoes. The island is recovering well from the last 2years, like everywhere else staff levels are not quite at previous levels but it didn't affect us because everyone seems to work twice as hard. The food in the one and only restaurant is good and plentiful as always. Helal's egg station is brilliant and Thank YOU for the porridge. Friday evening is Maldivian, the Kotthu is superb plus the entertainment. Good to see Ishmael,he looked after us in the restaurant,as did Milon and Ahmed and also Rofique. Our thanks to all the kitchen staff they never seem to stop working!! In the sand bar Habib who has been on the island for over 20years lovely man he knows exactly what everyone likes to drink and keeps them coming. and Susil so helpful with a good sense of humour. Our villa no 1 (only 36 in total) was perfectly cleaned by AbuTalib he is so clever at bed art Thank YOU .Rooms are comfortable, beds are huge for a good night's sleep. It was also great to see Shuba lovely young man quite shy. We were so pleased to meet up with Soonil bar and restaurant manager he is so welcoming. The reception staff do everything they can to oblige any requests Sue,Esther Anandhu and Subra Geoff says thanks to the guys for the table tennis a real workout!! Our niece Vannessa and her husband Ray were on Makunudu at the same time as us it was great to be together ,their first time to the Maldives. We also met Karen and Ian and Chris and Arthur they were excellent company good drinking buddies. We always had Mohadev (security) to escort us along the path to our villas when we had spent too long in the bar. The island has a good professional dive centre although we didn't use It other guests were impressed if you need any snorkelling equipment They will provide it The island is well kept and beaches looked after regularly by the gardners. The paths feel like talcum powder.no shoes Last but not least the new G M Shaugy his hospitality and wonderful sense of humour what a treat. He had us all laughing until we ached Thank you so much !! We had a wonderful stay on Makunudu 28days we could have very easily stayed longer all we needed was more money on dear. Hope to see you all again soon THANKYOU. Diane+Geoff (Dales)

Makunudu we love you!!!! It was our 2nd time we stayed at this beautiful island and we want to go back as soon as possible! It is my paradise on earth. All of the staff is amazing and so friendly. The food is exceptional and plentiful with lots of different options being offered all the time. The rooms are spacious and clean and offer all you need. The house reef has so many corals and fish. It is a short swim from the beach. On one snorkel alone we saw 4 sharks, 2 turtles, a lobster and an octopus! The island is small, quiet and peaceful. It is incredibly lush and makes you feel like you are walking through the rainforest. I found when researching resorts in the Maldives, you have to know what you are looking for because there are so many options. I was looking for: thatched individual beach bungalows, a great house reef to snorkel on, a small peaceful resort with as few people on it as possible and an island that was an easy boat ride from the airport. Makunudu was the only one I found that matched all my criteria. What can I say if possible we will be back!!!!

Stayed couple of nights in Makunudu island , was one of few affordable options to book on a high season , I was actually positively surprised by the quality of service in this beautiful paradise island , we’ve been greeted by a very welcoming and nice lady named Sou to show us around , took us to a nicely decorated and well maintained bungalow , all amenities were provided and the staff was genuinely responsive and friendly, Shout-out to the Room attendant for a beautiful bed decoration made for my girlfriend’s birthday, I also wanted to than the beautiful ladies in the spa who did a great job with a relaxing massage to help release all the tension I had before coming to Makunudu. Food was delicious and many options to choose from , really like the concept of buffet for breakfast and lunch and set A la carte menu for dinner , makes a difference in terms of service quality . Thank you for a beautiful short escape and will be back again.

Wonderful 10 days spent at Makunudu with my husband. The bungalow was beautiful furnished with a huge comfortable bed and air con. Outdoor shower room was lovely. No over water bungalows- all the bungalows are discreetly tucked away leading onto the beach and so the island retains a real sense of nature and privacy. Service was superb and all staff friendly and helpful. We stayed all inclusive which I am glad about as drink prices were quite expensive by the time service and tax were added. There was a good range of drinks and cocktails available on the all inclusive package but not all. They had to all be taken in the main bar area but that was fine - it would have been nice to be able to use the Sandbar occasionally Breakfast and lunch were buffet style but the 4 course evening meal was served at the the table which we liked. We were allocated Anwar as our waiter who looked after us superbly for our entire stay. The food was excellent with good choice and great attention to detail. We would have liked to have had a bit more seafood on the menu but, other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed the food. We enjoyed snorkelling around the island and saw plenty of fish including black tip sharks and a turtle. It was helpful to have water shoes as there is broken coral on some of the beaches. My husband did some diving with the on-site Padi team. It was more expensive than we have paid elsewhere but Ricardo and the team were brilliant We tried a massage at the spa which was lovely Have to say we fell in love with Makunudu and hope to return one day

We loved our stay at Makunudu so much that we can say we will definitely return one day… and we are a couple that never say that. Some info. The island is tiny with only 36 bungalows available. Therefore there can only be a maximum of 72 guests on the island at any one time. Because of that too, the service and your relationships with staff are that much more personal. Makunudu does not have ‘water villas’ (which can have a negative impact on coral) but all villas are very comfortable with air con and excellent beds. A great advantage of Makunudu is the home reef which surrounds the island and which was teeming with all manner of fish, some (not dangerous) sharks and stingrays. A snorkelling heaven. You can dive and there is a great dive/excursions team on the island. We went out on a number of boat trips to snorkel and had a great experience doing that. We would advise going all inclusive as there are no other options of restaurants and bars on the island. We were lucky to have Anwar as our waiter during our stay. He seemed to like me singing his name at dinner after a couple of cocktails. The only things to improve would be bathroom fixtures which are a little corroded. Warning too that wifi was poor which at the time did cause some stress as we needed to complete no end of forms for UK government for our return due to Covid-19. My actual rating would be 4.5 but as you can’t award that, there’s no way I would give 4 stars. So 5 it is!

We loved this place. We both needed a complete rest and that was what we got. What did we like? The friendliness of the staff was a big plus. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel that the only important thing is that you have a good time. The guys in the bar, Anwar our lovely waiter, KD the snorkelling man (and singer), Ricardo (he knows ALL fish), Susan (nurse, organiser and all round positive person) and Mohammed, the man who cleaned our bungalow, really enhanced our holiday. The food was great - good quality and varied. Every day at the lunch buffet there were a couple of curry options, usually including a dhal, plus poppadoms, chapatis, pickle and naan bread. These were just the best. And they were only two dishes amongst lots of salads and fish and soup. Several times in the ten days we were there there was a sponge pudding and custard! Unexpected but very welcome, and this was in addition to the usual small cakes, ice cream and fruit. Tea and coffee were provided in the room with a kettle, but it was instant coffee. You pay quite a bit ($15 including tax) for an espresso/Americano in the bar, i.e. not instant, so if drinking ground coffee is important to you, take your own. The house wine was excellent. The fish! We were in snorkel heaven. There are just so many. It's so easy to swim on the house reef, but also to swim further out to other reefs - on Ricardo's advice we attached floats to our ankles to ensure we were visible. Seeing sting rays ripple over the coral in dancing sunlight is magical. We also loved the five nurse sharks who we found sleeping nose to nose every morning next to a groyne on the edge of the lagoon. (They're perfectly visible from the groyne as the water is so clear.) Our bungalow was cosy and always clean. The bed seemed new. It was huge and very comfortable. There was no problem with insects at this time of year. We were on the N side, which I'd read was windy but in fact the slight breeze was very welcome when sitting on the loungers, even under the shade of the trees. The seabed was more stony (corally) than on the lagoon side so not great for paddling or swimming without beach shoes, but it was less than two minutes to walk to the sandy lagoon on the other side of the island. When snorkelling, we went in just outside our bungalow. So thank you Mukunudu for a super stay. We are refreshed!

1st. Makunudu is everything that's described. Its beautiful, quiet, calming, rustic. No shoes for the whole 9 days. Lovely staff from the room chap, bar staff, restaurant and reception (including spending 2 hours in total helping with our online forms for our departure! The chef was great in going round explaining all ingredient to my husband who is coeliac so he could eat a huge variety in confidence. BUT to me it was Claudia who absolutely made my holiday! Having done a lot of diving over many years, I had had my confidence totally destroyed in another country 3 years ago. Claudia got me diving again and gradually I remembered why I loved it so much. She was understanding and so caring but also knew how to restore my faith in myself underwater. I really cannot thank her enough! Wonderful island, Wonderful holiday. Can I come back soon please?

We stayed here for 4 nights in Feb 2022, and it was indeed a magical stay. We were not sure what to expect, but the experience was fantastic. This is not a fancy luxury resort with swimming pools, beach villas and jacussi etc. This villa is more traditional, and the island is rustic - something that we personally enjoy as a couple more than the fancy stuff. Even the rooms architecture is traditional, but it has all the required facilities. The food is great, especially the deserts (even for vegetarians). There were a few negative reviews of the staff that we read on trip advisor, but nothing like that. All the staff with whom we interacted with were very professional and courteous. Special thanks to Subbu (arambu), Anand and Susan who helped us a lot during our stay. We will definitely come back again to this property.
