Ah the bliss of nature at its best. I am so glad that there is the the Country Cottage resorts to return to whenever we get half a chance. I cant wait to be back there this April when we have a 2 week break for Easter (you know the school schedule!). And this time 2 of my Friends with their kids are coming along too. And what a lovely reception we receive each time. I can already smell the fresh scent of the pine trees, the lovey flowers and all the glory of April at Chandpur, the tea garden that nestles this lovely exclusive family run haven. And yes I am looking forward to the crackling barbecue that Karan Sarin invited us to-I hope he is having one this summer-- ah but that is a secret or is it?
I really enjoy the long walk or the occasional drive up into the heart of the mountains all the way up to the gob-smacking and breathtaking view from the Jakhani Mata temple. I would recommend this getaway to anyone who would like to truly unwind. It is a safe haven for young girls to go to and would be abs safe going solo too. I would recommend this resort to couples and to families. The kids were happy doing what kids love doing...climb trees, enjoy picnics-hide n seek, exploring- ask my daughter who is clearly thrilled at the prospect of another upcoming holiday there...''mum I had so much fun'' is her verdict! You want your young kids to go explore India- send them to this beautiful place that can be as adventure packed (the healthy safe kind :)) or as quiet and serene as you want to make it. Put this down in your list of the 5 places you must go to before you go anywhere else!!!

After reading the reviews on the Trip advisor we could hardly wait to be at this beautifully located Country Cottage in the middle of a Tea Garden. We had booked the Rose Cottage and as I write this review sitting in the varandha of the cottage looking at the beautiful snow covered mountains, we are already making plans when to come back but for a longer stay. My husband and I are here along with our 7 year old daughter. We are so happy that she has this opportunity to blend with nature - walk down to the Awa river, wade through the water or walk up through deep green Pine forest to the Tribal Temple rather than play video games. The place is so peaceful and serene and has turned out to be our best holiday. We would strongly recommend this place to all nature lovers.

I couldnt have wanted to revisit Palampur, if not for Mr Sarin and his family, who ensured that our stay at the cottages was nothing less than excellent. Wonderful food, great hosts, spectacular surroundings and those cottages with an old world charm. It is quite under rated a location, priced reasonable and located away from the humdrum of daily life.

Firstly it is not a resort forget it no way near it.Itz a private owned and managed by a family Sarins. The common area sofas upholstery carpets are extremely dirty even a vacuum cleaner would die trying to clean it probably never cleaned ever since it was brought. No phone connections no pool no play area for kids not even a damn book or newspaper to read all I could manage was a mag dated may2004.No Menu card to show the rates since you are at their mercy for food in the jungle they are going to take advantage and rip you off nicely for PATHETIC FOOD.There are just 3 people working there who are the cleaners cooks and everything.ask for water and they give a bottle from the 17th century fridge. Its just pathetic food, second day we were served stale rice.Cottage rates are3400-3800 25% extra adult 10% taxes..........All you get is blah blah blah and blah blah blah blah from the younger perpetually drunk sarin.......At those rates 3400 a day i got a five star property at amritsar all inclusive taxes extra person and breakfast.....OH yes it was proper food...
It a good estate but wrongly managed a people looking to make money and give you no service.....the only good thing is that they told me about a restaurant in market named JOYS and i had some really good and rightly priced food there.
TOTALLY AVOIDABLE PROPERTY there are many new better options of tea estates nearby you can explore.

Beautifully located "bungalows" set amidst a family run tea estate. With tea bushes literally up to your balcony and trees all around the location is genuinely tranquil and serene. Having tea from the very estate on which you are staying as you watch all the birds in the mornings is wonderful. And from April onwards when the tea picking starts it's also a treat to watch. Located in a very beautiful area just on the outskirts of Palampur your own transport is essential. Fabulous walks up to the nearby river and beyond. The family owners are very courteous and helpful arranging everything from paragliding to your evening meal. It's a bit expensive for what it is - the rooms are not in any way luxurious, and nor is the dining options. But... you will not get a location like this anywhere, and for that it is worth the spend. Not a party place at all. But perfect for a quiet family get away or for a couple. Maybe not really a kids place unless they're used to being away from TVs and stereos, which fortunately are NOT in the rooms!

Hi
I had a very terrible experience with these bunch of thugs Sarin. These people are good on face but real thugs in life.I had booked a cottage and paid in advance but when I went to check out, it was quite pathetic and ill maintained. No professional approach and real big false promises and egos. They are making mockery of Indian hospitality. After seeing the worthless shabby affair I decided not to stay in country cottage but the real bad experience came when Mr Sarin started misbehaving and dint return money at all which was paid full in advance. It leaves a bad experience and shows how people cheat and fool innocent tourists visiting new places.

Response from C0ttages, Owner at Country Cottage - a Tea Garden Resort

Sir We have noted the contents of your review. It is said that you chose to write a review without even visiting the Country Cottage. It appears that your problem lies at our applying the cancellation charges when the cancellation was done at the last minute by your guest for whom you had booked the accommodation. We quote below the Cancellation/Refund policy of HPTDC a Govt. of Himachal run chain of hotels. “.... No refund will be given If the cancellation intimation is received less than 4 days before the date of arrival” Yet, as gesture of goodwill we had offered you to utilise your deposit for yourself or your nominee anytime over the next six months without any deduction. Or accept 1 day detention charges. Despite our offer, we think, that the language you chose to use in your review is rather unfortunate and does not convey the truth of the issue.

If I remember correctly, we did mention that everything aside, rooms at the very least need to have a television,a refrigerator and 24-hour service, to which you replied that most of the visitors won't be able to afford increased tarrifs if you provide these facilities, and that only 2-3 rooms on an average are occupied on a daily basis, which is why you aren't able to afford dpuble-shift staff.
This was honestly very inappropriate answer, because 4000-7000 per room is not cheap, and basic facilities such as these need to be provided.
In a place such as Palampur, one generally comes to relax, and for that he/she definitely needs such basic amenities.

We do understand that tea gardens cannot be in the city, but had you mentioned the distance of this place from Palampur city, we might had changed our minds.

I am attaching the screenshot of the description that you have privided of your "resort".This "resort" does have a restaurant, but is open till 10.30 pm as far as I remember. On top of that, you need to let the staff know the previous day if you would like to have a meal, and even for that, they have a limited selection of dishes, and by limited, I mean 4-5 dishes for lunch/dinner and 2 for breakfast

In your response you mentioned that we were informed "well in advance".I apologise, but well-in-advance would have been if all of this, and your concept of "restaurant" had been mentioned clearly in the description.

Fridge is required for much more than overpriced col water, ice or overpriced cold drinks. In case anyone is travelling with a baby, and needs milk after 10.30ish,there is no single staff member on the resort premises.

We ate because we simply had no other option. There is no restaurant/cafe/eatery near this resort, which is why we were not in a position to complain or to avoid eating.

I apologize again, but everything is NOT clearly listed. Clearly listed would have meant mentioning that you don't have a night staff, you don't have a refrigerator in rooms, no TV, no shampoo- conditioner- dental kit- or any other toiletries, no restaurant, no professional management. I do understand that this is a family-run resort, but they can be professionally managed if someone wants to do so. I pity that you think that I cannot afford spending 4-5k per night, but at the same time, I would mention that 4-5k for SUCH A RESORT is a waste. This should be priced for around 1000-2000 at most.

I hope anyone reading this review would be able to understand why my husband referred to this resort as a scam. And I am sure that the owner will try to defend his position using harsh words, but I won't be able to respond to his reply. But I still suggest anyone travelling to Palampur not to book this place if you want to have a comfortable stay.
We were a group of 10 people, and not 1 of us enjoyed our stay here.

This resort is an amazing place specially when the monsoons are there. It's excellent food and extraordinary management made our stay very comfortable. The best time to visit this place is during the monsoons as its beauty increases four folds during the rains. The staff is also very co-operative and helpful. If you want an amazing and a relaxed holiday, I would highly recommend Country Cottage - a Tea Garden Resort.... If you come to this place once you won't feel like going back and will want to come back to this place again and again....

We stayed for 3 nights in this peaceful part of Palampur - Country Cottage. It's a simple family run place, owned and managed by the Sarin family who live on the premises too.
The food was delicious and homecooked, perfect for my kids, the service and hosts, very warm.
The logfire in the dining area was a treat for us city dwellers.
The cottages are clean with lovely views all around. We opted for the Iris Cottage.
We will definitely be back when the pressures of Delhi get too much to bear.
