Simple hotel, perfect for the purpose of a few days' break... Well run, clean, and a perfect location. Private beach was great - about 15m from the incredible waters. Short walk (5 mins) from supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants on the main road, a stone's throw from others on the beach. Breakfast was fine - could be improved with a few little touches but still a great start to the day. Rooms cleaned thoroughly and towels changed every day. No problem. Room small but comfortable - bed fine, although pillows could be much better. All in all, great situation, friendly service with a wonderful beach!

Simple small hotel, spotlessly clean, in a perfect location, just in front of the beach with a private beach and just a few steps to shops and restaurants. Rooms with daily cleaning and changing of towels and tasty fresh breakfast served every morning. The only concern is about the shower with cold water... In other words, absolutely suggested!

While my corner room was fine, I got the parking lot noise from a bar/nightclub next door with motorcycles revving constantly during the night and into the wee hours of the morning. One of our group had a room on the street and said there were trucks passing by all night. Breakfast not great - little other than eggs, but staff friendly.

The hotel operates in an old, but pleasant building. The rooms are simple, but the pillows have no covers. I felt that the staff in charge were not cooperative and were not attentive to anything. The beach front, although public, would be expected to be clean, but it is the dirtiest beach I have ever seen.

Hotel amenities are almost nonexistent. No front desk staff, no phones in the room, no room service, no hot water, complimentary bottled water NOT provided. Bring your own shampoo . No dedicated taxi service. Hotel unable to process CC On the plus side, hotel is located on the beach and provides a generous breakfast. Kudos to the housekeeping staff. Rooms and common areas are immaculate. Wifi working well for the most part. Located within walking distance of Duarte Ave and restaurants/bars. If you like cold showers and waiting for taxi or uber, then this is your hotel.

Very nice hotel well maintained by friendly people. Bocca Chica is the only beach close to Santo Domingo. They are accessible via Uber. The public beach is not very clean but the water is clear and a lot a small fishes let us think it was not to polluted. We enjoyed swimming early morning. The hotel facilities are good and the fish they cooked for us was delicious.

Being consistent in my past reviews I had to remove one star for the poor wifi. If I can not get internet in my room then it is unless. Great location of the ocean but the room was dated and small. Nice breakfast and the staff was very helpful. The bed was comfortable but the furniture needs to be updated.

Ok, my review is for single men only, so I give family people a few moments to leave the page……………………… Now that they are gone this is what I feel and believe one need to know about hotel Zapata. First it’s a motel like quality for American standards. Nothing wrong with that, just hotel I feel will miss lead a lot of people who are not season travelers. It very, very clean! No complaints on cleanliness. Wifi works horribly with cell phones. Best time to access it is in the middle of the night when know one pulling on router. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The breakfast, even though it is free I would not eat it. It is just eggs and bread. You can get a great meal for under $10 on the strip that will have you absolutely full.
Now for the good stuff. The Hotel policies as it relates to women guest. In order for women to get in they have to have a Cedula. (This is a government issued ID). I love the policy because they confiscate the ID until you give the all clear when they leave. Once inside they must go straight to the room. They cannot sit on patio of room, in lobby or in any common area. They are only allowed in the room and NO WHERE ELSE. If you are in to threesomes than you must rent a suite, they will not let two women into standard suite. It’s a difference of $20 it is worth the money and at least you have the option. But as far as a hotel that allows this I feel this is the safest and best hotel on the beach.

My husband and I went to Boca Chica in May and stayed at the Hotel Zapata. We had a lovely time. The staff was wonderful (Santo was our favorite, but Roberto was very cool!) and the food was good. The room was much more pleasant than we expected, especially since it was less than $75 per night. The hotel is located in a great spot right on the beach. The staff guys even carried out chairs for us. There was a little fence showing the border of the hotel. Sometimes you can stay behind the fence, and usually the vendors would leave you alone. On occasion they would still pass over it and harangue you for a manicure, pedicure or massage. Just make like you are deaf and they will leave you alone.
We learned a few lessons very fast, one of which I must share. The beach is filled with scam artists (read the review below which talks about the table/chair rentals) and, my husband and I got conned. We were walking down the main street and someone came up to us and asked if we would come check out his bar on the beach. We figured why not, lets check it out. The guy walked with us along the beach, showed my husband where the dive shop was and then sat down with us at the table.
We had two pina coladas and the gentleman asked if we would get him one ... we thought sure, why not -- he was nice and helpful. Then the man serving us the drinks asked if we would buy him one. Oh please. We politely declined. The server then said something in Spanish (which we now know was the equivalent of up yours!) and then presented us with a bill for 1200 pesos ... he said 1500 pesos with tip! We still weren't sure of the exchange rate, but thought it sounded okay and paid. As we walked away, we realized that we had just paid 50 bucks for two drinks and were FURIOUS.
We discovered the next day, that if something like this happens, you MUST go to the Tourist Police because they can sometimes make a difference. Since we waited five days there was nothing that could happen. Regardless, the town is really nice, the beach is wonderful and I would recommend a trip. Hopefully you'll avoid the scammers and have a good time!

The charming Zapata Hotel is directly located on one of the nicest beaches of Dominican Republic, Boca Chica. This lovely beach is well known for its white sand beach and very calm turquoise water… You can’t miss it! I used to travel in DR, especially in Boca Chica. Indeed, I experienced a lot of different places and hotels around the country and this small hotel is the nicest and cleanest one I’ve ever stayed in. It's also the only one that's right on the beach. Rooms are really charming, especially those with a sea view and balcony. Zapata Hotel has a small private place right on the beach where you can relax and enjoy without being disturbed. If you want to experience the dominican life, you can also have a long chair on the beach. Service is personalized, friendly and efficient; you’ll feel like at home with the owners, a lovely and helpful family. They all speak fluent English – which is really appreciable in DR – and they will always be happy to give you advices and explanations about their country. My friend and I had a really nice stay over there for Xmas holidays and had a delicious, tasty and traditional meal on Christmas day that the family Zapata offered to their guests! The restaurant offers good meals for the lunch, at any time!
People who already experienced the Dominican life know that the philosophy of the country is “take your time”; Zapata Hotel is, in this way, the perfect place to enjoy the original Dominican lifestyle...

I would highly recommending spending a few extra dollars and taking an Uber. If you are on your own and arriving late, there are a few places online that you can use to arrange transportation in advance. Safety is something to consider, as places can be deserted depending on how late you are around.
No, I was not aware of dance activities at the hotel. But, I can assure you the neighborhood club will afford you all the dance you can muster and more. The native dance and tourist moves as well. Friday night and Saturday night are most promising. Saturday night, after midnight, it gets packed and people enjoy dancing and drinking.
No, no pool as they are located on the beach where there is a lagoon that serves the same purpose, except it is not as closed a pool. But, ask Gaby or Mary and they can guide you safely, guaranteed. I travel alone some times as well. You will enjoy.
