This is a little gem of a hotel. It is family owned and it shows. The staff was always there to help with anything. It's basically located across the street from the beaches and restaurants.
We were able to just walk the beaches, get drinks, go to the supermarket, go to the local gym (planet fitness), fish markets, local food stalls, and rent a boat for the day at the local marina. The hotel helped us rent a nice boat for the day for $300. We sat on a little was out off the beach and had a great day.
Hotel is also very close to Santo Domingo for a day trip in as long as you go in off hours, because traffic around here can be crazy.
The restaurants in this area are fantastic, albeit a little expensive for Dominican standards. But the restaurant right across the street (Neptunos) really was a great all day place to eat and swim and relax.
I think this has to be one of the best deals in the area based on proximity to beaches, restaurants, good area, and super close to the airport.

This is a beautiful little property located right at the start of town. You have your choice of fancy dining, just across the street, and the whole rest of the town just down the beach a ways.

The rooms are big, the pool is nice, and property is attractive and the whole thing is very cheap.

We stayed at a couple of places in town and this was the best.

I stayed here from 3/21 to 3/25 2012. Nice clean hotel, very nice bi-lingual staff (all 3 ladies spoke english). Had good hot water 24/7. Paid only 70 USD for a large 2 room apartment with kitchen, full size fridge and sofa. The room had good a/c and the bed and linen were like new. I had checked 3 other hotels and all 3 were not up to standards, 2 had only cold water. This place is only a short walk from the beach abd clubs. I also at the the Neptuno restaraunt which had delicious food and a great view, but was a little exspensive, but i did eat lobster. This place is not real big so make reservations! Very quite, felt safe here, will come again. Forgot to mention nice large balcony with table and chairs.

I posted this review in 2010 and apparently it has magically disappeared, so I am reposting it! I made my reservation and when I showed up with my girlfriend and we got to the nasty old room, we found out that you are only allowed to use the AC at night!!!! HELLO??? It's the Dominican Republic, and the days are hotter than the nights. When we saw the condition of the place and found out about the ridiculous AC rule, we walked all over Boca Chica for 3 hours till we finally found a hotel. When we came back and I demanded my money back the owner started yelling at me in Spanish. I finally got a small portion of my money back, and she was the most unpleasant person I've ever dealt with at a hotel. PLEASE do not be fooled by the low rates. This place is a dump and you should steer clear.

We made a reservation via expedia. When we arrived they double the rate, saying it was policy to charge per person. I understand mistakes or miscommunication but courtesy and friendliness go a long way and Natasha the receptionist demonstrated neither of these qualities. Twice while we waited, tired, to be handed a bundle of keys...she took time to talk on the phone. The room.....was a 5 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS up. If you are not in very good shape- don't ! There is no elevator.
YES....the view from the balcony was beautiful, but the furniture was- to be gentle- DATED. Absolutely clean....but only 1 of 2 bedrooms had airconditioning. The walk to the restaurants...felt like walking on the south side of Chicago....not recommended unless you have 2 dobermans with you. Breakfast...included but doesn't start til 730.....so we missed it. Probably just as well. This is an unattractive property in an inconvenient location. We were charged the full amount BUT THERE WAS NO WI-FI. Natasha barely felt compelled to explain, though when another guest complained- she said....."I called this morning" Fortunately, the restaurant that my son and I did walk to...had good fast wifi.

Wow! I don't think I can find enough words to express my experience at Neptuno's. It may not be a 5 star hotel but the quality service and the people there surpass 5 star treatment. You will never get this type of treatment in a 5 star hotel. First I must say, we stayed one night on April 21, 2013 and when we arrived the owner helped us with our bags to our very nice suite but we were just passing through on our trip. On our way back we decided to stay there again this time for 3 nights and we checked in with a world of problems. From lost baggage to cancel flights and they assisted us to the end, they even went as far as calling the airline without our knowledge to check on our lost luggage. These people are magnificent, OMG, they treated us like family. The rooms are also nice and comfortable, We also enjoyed the home cooked breakfast they offered. I have never been to Italy but based on what I heard about Italy it has that type of feel to the place. From the owner, to management, to front desk staff, to security they all were fantastic, even the house keepers. I am a 5 star hotel kind of person but I will definitely stay at Neptuno's Refugio again and you cant beat the price either, they should be charging more but don't tell them I said that...lol I choose this hotel because of the great reviews and I am glad I did. Thanks guys for everything.

This small but nice hotel was perfect for our family of 6. We had simple but very clean adjoining rooms. We were served a free American style breakfast each morning on a secluded patio garden. The staff were very responsive to our requests for info or services. Easy walk to beach & we felt safe in the area. Would stay there again!!

Hotel was in a quiet locale around 3-4 blocks from the horrible main drag and the adjoining beach. My room was great but on a third floor which was a hassle to get luggage up to with the stair case somewhat narrow. Bedroom and bed were big as was the bathroom and adjoining walk-in closet. Unfortunately the AC was faulty and didn't work leaving the room steamy until late at night. I stayed on the porch until the room cooled. Grounds were pretty. Staff person was cold and uncooperative, possibly due to mainly being Spanish speaking or my low level of tolerance secondary to the horrible experiences in town earlier. My work arranged room thru Hotels.com for 2 days but I left after one. The hotel would not credit me the second day when I chose to leave after the poor city experience, lack of AC and poor staff. Charged for small water bottles. Manager/Owner was called and didn't improve the decisions and I left Boca Chica with a horrible experience.

Great hotel. Smallish, quiet, very friendly staff, and very clean (rooms cleaned daily). We stayed for 4 nights in a "basic" room (#2). Very spacious, huge bed, walk-in closet, almost like a suite. It had a fridge, which was awesome for cold drinks and snacks. Nice pool area, good hang out area, good and fast Wi-Fi, free coffee in the mornings, and excellent reasonably priced breakfasts. All in all, highly recommended. It's far enough away from the chaos of the beach to be quiet, and really is a refuge to come back to. The only drawback, obviously, is that it's not on the beach, and requires a 5-minute walk. But other than that, it's pretty much perfect. No complaints. Also, we had an evening flight, so they allowed us to check out at 2 pm, but hang around the pool, etc, for free for the rest of the afternoon. Can't go wrong.

I stayed for four days at this hotel. My friends and I rented two apartments with ocean view. The rooms were very spacious. They both have a pull out couch, table, sink, stove, refrigerator, safe and tv. The tv in 3A had a flat screen and the one in 2A did not have a flat screen. It had a daewoo tube television. The room is a bit outdated but its manageable and clean. The safe is pretty small. We actually broke the key on the safe in 3A and had to pay to replace it. The bedrooms in both apartments had a nice king sized bed. They take up most of the room but it's easy to walk around. The closest has a lot of space for a lot of clothing and luggage which was nice. The bathrooms were also a nice a size. The balconies have very good ocean views. The balcony on 2A is bigger but 3A has a better view. The complex is really quiet. It is next to a couple restaurants that have beautiful views of the ocean. The walk to the public beach or calle duarte is 5-10 minutes. I definitely would recommend this hotel.
