Mercure Review: Good day to all my close-to-heart family, relatives, friends, Facebook followers, food critics & foodies. This year, covid pandemic with it ‘s lockdown has made many wonder about, whether we will all forget our normal lifestyle, wherein we can casually walk into a coffee shop, sit down in the café, have coffee and shop aimlessly about, all that seems like an unrecognized dream in now-reality. Which is why Hotel Mercure Chennai Sriperumbudur stands as a good & safe option for food delivery not comprising on its taste, then living upto its famous standards even when the impossible situation is at hand. Being the only international brand in Sriperumbudur-Oragadam industrial area & automobile hub, it is just 45 min drive from Chennai airport. Then I made decision to try the food delivery to home option possible by booking through “Melange” which is an all-day-dining restaurant showcasing a selection of international and regional cuisine. The food came in packed neatly with courteous, smiling staff who were all wearing masks & with gloved hands, quite the suave look of polished shoes & neatly cut hair. I must really appreciate their entrance even with the lockdown staring at both of our faces, made the delivery look exceptional with high expectations of the food too. Receiving delivery from Mercure-Melange was such a pleasurable experience altogether. They had a new concept of bio-degradable corn starch lunch mini box trays which were of soft cream colour in order to boost up the food colours. I would like to acknowledge the team of Mercure-Melange for this amazing green idea for our planet. So, this is how food-obsessed I was: Fresh Former Greek Salad - Greek salad is always a summer favourite! This classic combination was truly delightful and flavourful with traditional ingredients like Sweet, juicy tomatoes, Red Onions, Snappy Green Bell Peppers, Olives, Ice Berg Lettuce, Sliced Crisp Cucumbers with Feta Cheese proliferated quite well. The Cucumber was seeded well in order to avoid the salad from getting watery. The usage of Cherry Tomatoes released less water into the salad than the actual larger Tomatoes would. Salad Seasoning was so good with equal quantity of Lemon, Olive Oil Vinaigrette. If you try doing it at home you can add a handful of Mint Leaves for a fresh finishing touch. Cajun Marinated Chicken Breast - This Chicken was fine cooked with Cajun Spices and Vegetable Oil. When I sliced it, I could see the well-made Chicken which not only looked soft but also tasted very much like the decent tender Meat. It was so flavourful because of the way the Chicken was seasoned and the amazing blend of Spices into it. But the perfect piece of fact is that Cajun Marinated Chicken Breast can be served hot or cold. The chef informed me that he had cooked the Chicken in tawa sealing the juices & taste, whereas many people make the usual common mistake of cooking Chicken in microwave oven in which the cooking process is from inner to outer, so thereby the juices present inside the Chicken would be pushed out. Grilled Vegetables tossed with fresh organic Herbs like Oregano which were packed along with the Chicken made it really a wholesome meal. Schezwan Prawn – This famous Chinese lip-smacking starter is loved by people of all age groups because of the spicy yet tangy flavours of this dish cater to people who have a knack for sweet and spicy food. Their Tiger Prawns were a melt-in-the-mouth experience with fiery taste along with the curves of the prawns made it really an experience of oceanic delight. Usually tiger prawns are hard, but this dish from Mercure-Melange was so soft, I guess they did a really good job of Tiger Prawns dipped in a batter of Corn Flour & Egg with deep frying and slow cooking with Sauce. The juicy consistency was present because it was half cooked. For all those who love seafood and love to experiment, this would be the perfect dish to try from Mercure-Melange providing a larger than life taste, treating your taste buds with something new. Mutton Tawa Pulao – Stunningly made Basmati Rice seasoned with various spices. The use of fried onions added to the exemplary taste of this pulao, which was mind blowing. The mutton was also cooked properly as equal to the rice. Each particle is creatively assessed as Real-Good. Raitha – Raitha had a homemade touch to it because I believe they told me that they prepare the curd from cow ‘s milk only at their restaurant. It consisted of a creamy texture that was so mouth-watering along with the presence of chopped onions, coriander leaves, roasted jeera powder, salt along with a dash of Kashmiri chilli powder. It sounds so simple but it was really good. Mutton Rogan Josh – This is usually made with boneless mutton in a pan over low-flame which will give the accurate effect to the Mutton & Curry which was exactly paced well with the spice slowly increasing each time you go for another helping. When the mutton & masala are evenly slow-cooked you will be able to taste an exotic Mutton Rogan Josh. This was definitely a good signature dish from Mercure-Melange. Kozhi Vepudu – Known to all, Andhra recipes are popular for the unique heat and taste that they provide. The lusciousness comes from the variety of local Indian spices and seasonings. Basically, Kodi Vepudu is a enjoyable spicy Andhra Boneless Chicken which is Marinated well and fried well with a special Vepudu Masala (Chef Secret). It was unequivocally mind blowing to eat this fire-from-the-heart kind of emotional item. Garlic Bread – Tasted so good as it was freshly made at the hotel with butter-garlic as its base, finely chopped garlic with herbs and spread with a little bit of salt glazing and closed for baking. Mashed Potato – The very basic mashed potato is made up of potatoes, milk, butter, salt & pepper in which the potatoes were cooked well and were so much tender in tasting. They have used warmed cow ‘s milk, butter, salt and pepper which were added as a sort of mild tempering to the mashed potatoes. I had it with Cajun marinated chicken breast and a little bit of garlic bread that sounded like entering the gates of heaven. If you want to try it at home you can experiment by adding various herbs, greens, seasonings and spices. Lunch Tray Box: Soup of the Day: 1. Thai Coconut Veg/Chicken Soup: – It was extremely tasty, too good for words to express by the taste of curry along with the coconut milk base which can get all the praise because it was the solitary reason for its s thick texture. The stock on which the soups were based on were made overnight, soaking with slow cooking as the chef puts it, which was the secret to this amazing soup. The slow cooking should be compared to the fire & heat from only 4 candles. 2. Minestrone Soup: – Originated as a hearty Italian vegetable soup which was really good with tomato broth and Blanched Pasta with seasonal vegetables alongside. Main Course: 3. Egg Noodles with Vegetables: – Everyone s favourite & cooked so well. 4. Schewan Fried Rice: – Spice gotten better with agreeably well-done fried rice. 5. Soya Ginger Vegetable/Egg Fried Rice:– Made me remember the good old memories of an authentic fried rice which was firmly appetizing & lovely to eat with not so much of indian masala spice. 6. Stir Fried Vegetables: – Classic French Beans never tasted so good! 7. Vegetable Salad: – Crunchy Veggies with a way to go attitude and topped with Roasted Peanuts seasoned with Sesame Seeds, Red Chilli Paste, Sesame Oil, Soya Sauce, the perfect blend to a great salad. 8. Spring Rolls – Lovely Rolls of stuffing made with Carrot, Spring Onion, just the right munchies. Dessert of the Day: 9. Brownie Chocolate Cake with Sugar Glazing – My favourite being chocolate, this was the perfect food for me - sultry and rich, with semisweet frosting and just a touch of hazelnuts. 10. Cheesecake – That was so sweet and definitely contrasted the hot Chinese fare. 11. Walnut Eggless Cake – Astoundingly soft & incredibly tasty within. I would like to thank the Chef of Mercure-Melange Mr. Jeeva & the entire Culinary Team, Mr. Chola, Manager of Food & Beverage Unit, & Mr. M. Raja Marthandan (C.E.O of Red Consulting Company) for giving me this opportunity to relish & write. I will be waiting for more!!

After a long break we went out as a family and stayed at this property - Mercure Chennai Sriperumbudur. We were bowled over by the flower art work on the bed when we entered the rooms. We had two rooms. The art was so beautiful and we didn't have the heart to disturb that. The two guys had spent several hours for that. On learning about my wife's birthday, the two guys again showed their art work. And when my wife who had gone out returned to the room was pleasantly surprised. The 'Mercure Thanda', a cooler made with milk, nuts and other ingredients inspired by the drink Jigirthanda for which Madurai is famous for was great. The food and service at the restaurant were great. Officials said work is on to offer guests food and drinks inspired by the local/regional favourites. Since its start, Mercure Chennai Sriperumbudur has been offering the unique idli variety-the Kancheepuram Idli. Among the several types of idlis -- a healthy South Indian dish -- the Kancheepuram idli has a special, even divine, status. It is offered to the Lord Varadharaja Perumal in Kancheepuram. In no other temple Kancheepuram Idli is offered to the Lord as the main offering.
