I've just spent 4 days at El Colony, I wish I could've found out more info before I went so here are my experiences in the hope they help you! I booked the hotel in advance, through booking.com. Well technically my dad booked it for me from another country, because booking.com

There's not much to do besides diving and the daily trip (2 dives) is from ~8:30am to ~5:00pm: a shuttle to the dive base (~8:30am) followed by a ~1:30h boat ride to the dive location. There were few other guests during our stay, almost all of them were divers. Diving was nice,

Formally a Hilton in pre-revolutionary times, this seen-better-days, state run hotel was nearly empty when I stayed for 5 nights in May. I chose a bungalow which was spacious, clean, very quiet and had an ocean view; horses grazed close by in the morning. A modest breakfast

When I was here it was almost empty. The food was good and fresh. The pool is very nice. Personal working here is helpfull and do speak english well enough. Doesnt feel like Cuba but worth visiting and would come back.

Do not go here unless you dive. It is remote and a 20-25 CUC taxi ride back to Nueva Gerona, or a £35-£40 round trip. The diving is good, although the dive sites are a 90 minute boat ride away. We upgraded to a bungalow for 10CUC per night (cash only) and although we were

"We upgraded our room to a bungalow, but really that just gets you a little more space (the furniture is exactly the same)"
"The hotel itself is amazingly well kept, clean and tidy. Considering that they don't have many guests. Bungalow Locations FYI:- Bungalows 130/131/132/133 are all fairly near the pool and bar area. I stayed in 130 and it could be noisy even when guest numbers are low. Staff enjoy shouting when communicating day and night. Bungalows 136 (136 is at the end of the main block) to 153 (153 is at the end of this run and resort) are the ones to request. If you're looking to be as far away from the pool area and just read a book in silence with an ocean/beach view then 153 is yours! 152 is its neighbour and they are semidetached buildings."
"Choose a bungalow."
"Try for a bungalow - well worth it."
"as suggested try for one of the bungalows."
