Detailed Reviews
My friend and I love this place. We planned on staying for two nights at the end of a busy couple of weeks sightseeing in Kerala - we ended up staying for four nights, with a free upgrade to a premium room with estuary/Arabian sea views. The quality was first rate across the board, the service impeccable. Is it possible for waiters to be too attentive at dinner? The food is wonderful, the grounds are extensive, glorious and well-tended with a choice of three large swimming pools. There’s a free water taxi to and from the stunning beach throughout the day and lots of activities (many included in the price) if you want them. We recommend a paid boat trip through the mangrove backwaters where you get close to an amazing selection of birds including sea eagles, pelicans and kingfishers. The views from the hotel are spectacular, elephant rock is just across the water. And there’s a range of Ayurvedic and western massage treatments available if you want them. Total relaxation. We’ll be sad to leave - it’s magic!

Amazing place to relax with family . All staff were very cordial including people doing routine jobs like cleaning garden . Food was amazing , though the buffet spread had more south Indian items . Since the resort is in a remote location , one has to eat in the restaurant only. Restaurant is expensive but worth it .
The boat was arranged by hotel to nearby beach , which was complementary. Backwater boating is exclusive and charge about 1500 for one hour trip .
The resort is in a huge property and ample places to just sit , relax and unwind watching the sea and backwaters.

We spend my husband's birthday weekend at Sarovar Estuary Portico Resort at Poovar. As the common swimming pools are not functional due to Covid,we booked a pool villa which
was quite luxurious and sprawling. We had a comfortable stay there, the only concern was that the water in
the pool was not clear,chlorine
content in the water and a few tiles in the pool were broken. Also the lighting around the pool area was quite low,so after dusk we could not
use the pool. However we enjoyed our stay..the food at the restaurant was amazing..not even a single dish let us down...(veg/non veg). We spent the second day of our stay at the Estuary
Rooms that have been newly renovated and offer a beautiful lagoon and beach view. The entire resort is situated bang in front of the estuary point at Poovar so we had an amazing view from the balcony. Our 5 yr old son had a nice time due to the many activities that the resort offers..some of which include free boat rides to the estuary point, fishing, cycling, paid boat ride (1-11/2 hrs) around the backwaters, sport activities etc.Enjoying a breathtaking sunset view from the 1st storey of the portico, sipping a cup of hot coffee with vada was a moment to cherish.
The staff at Estuary went out of their way to make us feel comfortable.Special mention to F&B staff and managers Anup,Bipin and Justin and accommodation staff Sangeet and Jomol. It really felt like home away from home.It was sweet of F&B staff to arrange for a surprise birthday cake. After months of lockdown it felt nice to visit such a peaceful and relaxing place. We were a bit apprehensive regarding the hygiene standards..considering Covid..but Sarovar staff took all necessary and proactive measures.
We will surely visit again.

What a way to begin our New Year!! Just what we needed...a wonderful relaxed family time. All credit to the staff. Athira understood our needs just as we checked in and made sure they were all satisfied. Sadly I have forgotten the names of all the staff who made our stay special for us (I should have noted them down). The chef at the chai counter, Jo-Jo and a young girl from (Meghalaya) who catered to us at the restaurant. The house keeping staff who despite the heavy crowd and rooms she had to handle with an ever smiling face made sure our rooms were pristine clean. The kind boatmen..
Thank you ever smiling folks for giving us a memorable vacation. Wish you all the very best!
Regards,
Swetha

I stayed at the resort with family for a day on 6th Dec. We had booked 3 Garden Facing Rooms and were a little anxious about the health safety protocols in place as this was our first trip during the pandemic but was assured by Jomol (Front Desk) about the measures in place even before we traveled. Our anxieties were put at ease as soon as we reached the place. The support staff were very courteous and promptly helped with the check in formalities after completing the safety checks. The rooms were wonderful and spacious while the courtyard really gave a homely feel to the block where we stayed. In the evening we stepped out to explore the property and also enjoy the evening snacks(Pazhampori) with tea/coffee. This you can do while savoring a breathtaking view of the estuary. There is ample space to relax under the shade on a hammock, enjoy the setting sun on the benches and stools(btw you can take some great pics in this spot) or just take a leisurely stroll through the well maintained lawns and through the lake shore. The attraction is of course the complimentary boat shuttle to the golden sand where you get to see the lake and sea converge. Makes for a perfect setting in the evening. The evening is perfect for enjoying the indoor games(Table Tennis, Carroms, Pool, Chess) or just unwind in the room. We placed the order for dinner at Ripples(in house restaurant) in advance and then reached in time when the order was ready. Must say that the food did not disappoint and mostly justified the premium price. This place looks amazing in the night and a walk around is definitely recommended before you retire for the night.
The breakfast again at Ripples restaurant was superb. It has a good buffet spread of South Indian, North Indian, European dishes to cater to the varied travelers who stay here. It was a shame we could not use the pools(closed temporarily along with Pottery coaching and ayurvedic spa). When we checked out in the afternoon, we left with lots of great memories of our stay. A special note for the staff who ensured our stay was pleasant - Jomol, Anoop, Anandu, Lal, which is something during these testing times. Would love to be back again

We were a family with little kids as well as our 83 yr old granny, we all had a great time enjoying the lovely sandy lawn area facing the beach, the wooden swings tied between coconut trees were such a fun experience, kids loved it, they also had hammocks and a trampoline . The restaurant has great views, courteous staff and good quality tasty food ( we did a La carte, did not try the buffet). The pool has a great location and views but could be better maintained and better cleaned, dress code was not enforced at the pool. The rooms, though a bit dated, were clean and comfortable.
Overall a lovely stay worth visiting again, kudos to the helpful staff .

I and my family were pleasantly surprised that a sprawling estate resort can have such a fantastic and committed staff who can attend to us with personal touch.
We like to specially thank Mr Vignesh for the warm & courteous welcome that he gave and and ensured that our stay was so memorable..
The driver Salim had even gone to the extent of wiping my car's windscreen as a good will gesture.. Such splendid devotion to customers is really rare
The evercheerful catering staff at the restaurant especially Mr Bipin and Mr Jojo added delight to the delicacies that was served there..
Overall we enjoyed a professional and perfect stay.

Booked sarover portico poovar a month before with 50% payment. When we were 10 kms from the resort, got a call from the manager expressing their inability to provide us the 2 rooms we booked due to faulty A/c. He was trying to transfer us to some kovalam hotel.we did not fell in his trap and we reached the resort since travelling back after driving for 175 kms with kids so tired was not an option. After some arguments and the usual "sincere apologies" we were given 2 rooms in a block which was under renovation and after half an hour the electrician joined the cables and the A/c started working.
In peak time, the hotels do overbooking and will try to cheat the unsuspecting guests with some frivolous reasons. Although we had planned a two day stay,we checked out after breakfast without exploring poovar and went to Trivandrum and checked into O by Tamara which had courteous staff, nice ambience and great food. Guys pls avoid Sarovar Poovar or be careful with them

The property is beautiful. It's isolated, quiet and has great sea views with a shuttle service to the beach. The rooms seem to have been recently renovated and look fresh. The good parts however end there. We stayed there for the Christmas weekend and found the room service slow, pressure in shower was not there and unresolved despite multiple complaints. The pool maintenance is also questionable. The buffet spread is average. It meets a basic buffet requirement, but given I paid 11k a night for Breakfast and dinner, I think it is overpriced. Better to go alacarte as the ala carte menu tasted better for sure.

Very accommodating with all our requests. Restaurant staff especially helpful and friendly. Complimentary breakfast had a great variety and was very well presented. It’s a very peaceful and relaxing setting and we enjoyed our morning yoga outside. Very good safe play area for children with swings and hammocks
Private pool villas would be great for honeymoons. Family oriented property.
We have travelled extensively throughout India for the past 10 years through work and after having stayed in many 5 star hotels, this one is our favourite. We are now on our second visit here after 5 weeks away.
